While isotretinoin has been the gold-standard of therapy for severe acne since its approval in 1982, its anti-inflammatory properties makes it a potentially applicable and versatile therapy for a wide variety of dermatologic conditions yet to be explored. This systematic review comprehensively recounts the success of oral isotretinoin in non-acne cutaneous diseases and provide insight into future directions of isotretinoin utility. A systematic literature review was performed using PubMed. Search terms included "isotretinoin" OR "accutane" AND "skin" OR "dermatology" OR "hair" OR "nails" OR "rosacea" OR "psoriasis" OR "pityriasis rubra pilaris" OR "condyloma acuminata" OR "granuloma annulare" OR "darier's disease" OR "non-melanoma skin cancer" OR "frontal fibrosing alopecia" OR "cutaneous lupus erythematosus" OR "hidradenitis suppurativa" OR "photodamaged skin" OR "skin aging" OR "wart" OR "flat warts" OR "plane warts" OR "lichen planus" OR "dissecting cellulitis" OR "folliculitis decalvans" OR "sebaceous hyper prospective, randomized human trials are needed to clarify when and how to prescribe off-label isotretinoin for maximum efficacy and safety.

Children with suspected renal artery stenosis (RAS) are screened with renal Doppler ultrasonography or computed tomography (CT) angiography/magnetic resonance (MR) angiography depending on institutional preference. CT angiography produces images with superior resolution, allowing higher quality multiplanar two-dimensional reformats and three-dimensional reconstructions. However, there is a paucity of data in the literature regarding the utility and diagnostic performance of renal CT angiography in pediatric RAS.

The objective of this study is to retrospectively review our experience with renal CT angiography in the diagnosis of pediatric RAS relative to digital subtraction angiography (DSA) as the reference standard.

All patients 0-18years of age who underwent CT angiography for evaluation of RAS as a cause of hypertension between January 2012 and May 2019 were identified for the study. A total of 131 patients were identified, 23 of whom had DSA correlation.

Twenty-three patients (17 boys, 6 girls) with a mean age of 6years 3months (range 3months to 14years 7months) were included in this study. Of the 59 renal arteries studied by DSA, 22 were abnormal on CT angiography and 20 were abnormal on DSA. Of the 59 renal arteries, CT angiography was true positive in 18 and true negative in 35. The sensitivity and specificity of CT angiography for RAS diagnosis were 90.0% and 89.7%, respectively. CT angiography identified all cases of main RAS.

Lipoblastoma is a rare benign neoplasm of immature fat cells in children. Imaging appearances are frequently complex, sometimes simulating liposarcoma.

To characterize features of lipoblastoma on MRI and CT in comparison with recurrence risk.

We identified cases via retrospective review of histopathology-proven lipoblastoma cases in a large referral database and a pediatric medical center. Two radiologists scored CT and MRI on the basis of lesion features.

We included a total of 56 children (32 boys and 24 girls) with a mean age of 2.6years (range 0.1-13years). Extremity lesions were most common (27%), followed by neck (19%), gluteal region (18%), chest (14%) and mesentery (14%). Children most commonly presented with painless masses (73%), followed by dyspnea (9%), distension (9%) and pain (7%). Non-adipose soft-tissue components were identified on CT and MRI in 78% of cases. Significant (moderate or marked) septations were noted in 59% and enhancement in 35%. #link# Compartmental invasion was present in 43% of cases. Of paraspinal cases, 38% involved the neural foramina or central canal. Lesion complexity did not significantly correlate with age. Recurrence was observed in 9% of cases and was significantly correlated with compartmental invasion (correlation 0.303, P=0.009) and septation complexity (correlation 0.227, P=0.038) on initial imaging.

We set up the ERACODA (European Renal Association COVID-19 Database) database, which is specifically designed to prospectively collect detailed data on kidney transplant and dialysis patients with COVID-19. For this analysis, patients were included who presented between 1 February and 1 May 2020 and had complete information available on the primary outcome parameter, 28-day mortality.

Of the 1073 patients enrolled, 305 (28%) were kidney transplant and 768 (72%) dialysis patients with a mean age of 60 ± 13 and 67 ± 14 years, respectively. The 28-day probability of death was 21.3% [95% confidence interval (95% CI) 14.3-30.2%] in kidney transplant and 25.0% (95% CI 20.2-30.0%) in dialysis patients. link3 Mortality was primarily associated with advanced age in kidney transplant patiies on the COVID-19-related mortality risk in kidney transplant and dialysis patients.

Estimating glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in acute kidney injury (AKI) is challenging, with limited data comparing estimated and gold standard methods to assess GFR. The objective of our study was to assess the performance of the kinetic estimated GFR (KeGFR) and Jelliffe equations to estimate GFR in AKI, using a radioisotopic method (technetium-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) as a reference measure.

We conducted a prospective multicenter observational study in hospitalized patients with AKI. We computed the Jelliffe and KeGFR equations to estimate GFR and compared these estimations to measured GFR (mGFR) by a radioisotopic method. The performances were assessed by correlation, Bland-Altman plots and smoothed and linear regressions. We conducted stratified analyses by age and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

The study included 119 patients with AKI, mostly from the intensive care unit (63%) and with Stage 1 AKI (71%). The eGFR obtained from the Jelliffe and KeGFR equations showed a good correlation with mGFR (r = 0.73 and 0.68, respectively). The median eGFR by the Jelliffe and KeGFR equations was less than the median mGFR, indicating that these equations underestimated the mGFR. On Bland-Altman plots, the Jelliffe and KeGFR equations displayed a considerable lack of agreement with mGFR, with limits of agreement >40 mL/min/1.73 m2. selleck chemicals llc performed better in CKD and the KeGFR performed better in older patients.
