Evidence is lacking on the best treatment for women presenting with recurrent stress urinary incontinence. PURSUIT is a randomised trial of urethral bulking agent injection versus surgical intervention. It will provide high-quality evidence to aid counselling and inform choice. The Caspian seal Pusa caspica is the only endemic mammalian species throughout the Caspian Sea. This is the first report on risk assessment of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in Caspian seals by age-sex and tissue-specific uptake, and their surrounding environment (seawater, surface sediments, and suspended particulate matters, SPMs) in the Gorgan Bay (Caspian Sea, Iran). Among the quantified 70 POPs (∑35PCBs, ∑3HCHs, ∑6CHLs, ∑6DDTs, ∑17PCDD/Fs, HCB, dieldrin, and aldrin), ∑35PCBs were dominant in abiotic matrices (48.80% of ∑70POPs), followed by HCHs > CHLs > DDTs > PCDD/Fs > other POPs in surface sediments > SPMs > seawater, while the toxic equivalent quantity (TEQWHO) exceeded the safe value (possible risk in this area). In biota, the highest levels of ∑70POPs were found in males (756.3 ng g-1 dw, p brain. selleck products The positive age-related POPs declining correlation between mother-pup pairs suggested the possible maternal transfer of POPs to offspring. The cocktail toxicity assessment revealed that Caspian seals can pose a low risk based on their mixed-TEQ values. Self-organizing map (SOM) indicated the non-coplanar PCB-93 as the most over-represented functional congener in tissue-specific POPs bioaccumulation. Quantitative toxicant tissue-profiling is valuable for predicting the state of mixture toxicity in pinniped species. As an emerging contaminant, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) make up a large group of persistent anthropogenic chemicals, which are difficult to degrade in the environment. Notwithstanding their wide range of applications in consumer products and industrial processes, PFASs have been detected in the environment as well as in human body. Due to their potential adverse human health effects, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) set the combined concentration of PFOA and PFOS in drinking water at 70 ng/L or 70 ppt (parts per trillion) as a lifetime health advisory level. Current standard detection methods for PFASs heavily rely on chromatographic techniques coupled with mass spectrometry. Although these methods provide accurate, specific, and sensitive measurements, their applications are greatly limited in advanced analytical laboratories because it necessitates expensive instrumentations, professional operators, complicated sample pretreatment, and considerable analysis time. Therefore, other detection methods beyond chromatographic based techniques, such as optical and electrochemical techniques, have also been extensively explored for simple, accessible, inexpensive, rapid, and sensitive detection of PFASs, particularly PFOA and PFOS. The purpose of this review is to provide recent progress in alternative detection platforms relying on non-MS based techniques for PFASs analysis. Starting with a brief introduction about the importance of monitoring PFASs, recent advances in various PFASs detection methods are grouped and discussed based on the difference of signals, with an emphasis on the working principles of different techniques, the sensing mechanism, and the sensing performance. The review is closed with the conclusion and discussion of future trends.Ferrihydrite is ubiquitous in natural environments and is usually co-precipitated with impure ions and toxic contaminants like Al(III) and Sb(V) during the neutralization process of acid mine drainage. However, little is known about the dynamic interactions among ferrihydrite, Al(III) and Sb(V). In this study, the influence of coprecipitated Al(III) and Sb(V) on the transformation of ferrihydrite was investigated. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy before and after aging for 10 days at 70 °C. Results indicated that the Al(III) enhanced the immobilization of Sb(V) under neutral and alkaline conditions, and the presence of Sb(V) induced more production of extractable Al(III). XRD patterns revealed that the transformation rate of coprecipitated Al(III) and Sb(V) ferrihydrite was higher than Al-coprecipitated ferrihydrite. It is speculated that the presence of Sb(V) weakened the inhibition of Al(III) under experimental conditions. Competitive reaction of Al(III) and Sb(V) for substitution on the lattice Fe of ferrihydrite, likely decreased Al(III) substitution on ferrihydrite, and thus increased the observed transformation rate of ferrihydrite. These results have significant environmental implications for predicting the role of impurities and contaminants on ferrihydrite transformation processes. In this study, a sub-class of microporous crystalline metal organic frameworks (MOFs) with zeolite-like configurations, i.e., zeolitic imidazolate frameworks of single node ZIF-67 and binary nodes ZIF-Co/Zn are used as the supports to develop Cu nanoparticles based nanocatalysts. Their catalytic activities are comparatively evaluated where Cu(x)@ZIF-Co/Zn exhibits better performances than Cu(x)@ZIF-67 in the reduction of synthetic dyes and nitroarenes. For instance, the Cu(0.25)@ZIF-Co/Zn catalyst shows an excellent reaction rate of 2.088 × 10-2 s-1 and an outstanding activity of 104.4 s-1gcat-1 for the reduction of methyl orange. The same catalyst also performs an exceptional catalytic activity in the hydrogenation of p-nitrophenol to p-aminophenol with the activity of 216.5 s-1gcat-1. A synergistic role of unique electronic properties rising from the direct contact of Cu NPs with the bimetallic nodes ZIF-Co/Zn, higher surface area of support, appropriate Cu loading and maintainable microporous frameworks with higher thermal and hydrolytic stability collectively enhances the catalytic activity of Cu(x)@ZIF-Co/Zn. Moreover, this catalyst shows excellent stability and recyclability, which can retain high conversion after reuse for 10 cycles.
