The motor weakness in sporadic hemiplegic migraine (SHM) is a poorly understood aura manifestation. Cortical spreading depression affecting motor excitability and alterations of neurovascular coupling may be integral to the development of migraine aura.

We studied 10 right-handed SHM patients and 17 healthy controls with functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) in the interictal period. Subjects performed a finger opposition task and had real time determination of oxyhemoglobin (OxyHb) and deoxyhemoglobin (deOxyHb) changes. Recordings were completed with 10 left and 10 right sided cortical channels.

Mean baseline to peak changes were significantly reduced in SHM patients as compared to controls bilaterally only for OxyHb measurements in the anteromedial channels. Mean time to peak changes were significant delayed in SHM patients compared to controls bilaterally largely for OxyHb measurements in the posterolateral channels, with the exception of 2 recording channels.

Our findings suggest presence ent in the posterolateral channels. These findings suggest that oxygen inflow into specific brain regions may be defective in SHM as opposed to oxygen utilization. In a multi-center, retrospective case-control study, we compared 20 LVAD-related strokes with 33 non-LVAD strokes, all of which had large vessel occlusion in the anterior circulation treated with mechanical thrombectomy. Successful reperfusion was achieved in 75% of the LVAD-related strokes. The time from onset to reperfusion was similar to that of non-LVAD strokes, but the total number of device passes required for reperfusion (median, 2.5 versus 1, P=0.01) and the incidences of post-procedural parenchymal and subarachnoid hemorrhage (25% versus 3%, P=0.02 and 55% versus 15%, P=0.01, respectively) were higher in LVAD-related strokes. Symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage occurred in 4 patients (20%) with LVAD-related strokes. The histopathological analysis revealed that the ratio of erythrocyte components was significantly lower in thrombi retrieved from patients with LVAD-related stroke than in those with non-LVAD stroke (19±6% versus 41±17%, P=0.01).

Conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) are a new type of three-dimensional network porous material with high specific surface area, good chemical stability and superhydrophobicity. Herein, we firstly report the synthesis and applications of CMPs@SiO2 material for HPLC stationary phase. The CMPs@SiO2 material can be in situ fabricated via Sonogashira coupling of 1,3,5-triethynylbenzene and 1,4-diiodobenzene on the surface of spherical silica. The morphology and physicochemical properties of the synthesized stationary phase material were investigated by a series of characterization methods. Due to the superhydrophobic nature of the CMPs@SiO2 material, the packed CMPs@SiO2 HPLC column displays ultrastrong chromatographic retention and can be used for separation of both hydrophobic and hydrophilic compounds with good selectivity. Significantly, CMPs@SiO2 column can be performed for separation with pure acetonitrile as the eluent. Thus, the new column was successfully exploited for monitor and analysis of the hydrolysis of silane coupling agents. Furthermore, based on its oleophilicity, this report firstly utilized the CMPs@SiO2 material to identify and analyze the quality of cooking oils through one-step enrichment and subsequent HPLC separation. We will further exploit to fabricate versatile CMPs-based stationary phases, highlighting their potential applications in different separation scopes.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, has caused a major pandemic. Patients with cancer are at higher risk of severe COVID-19. We aimed to describe and compare the immunological features of cancer patients hospitalised for COVID-19 or other concomitant, cancer-related illness.

In this prospective study, the clinical and immunological characteristics of 11 cancer patients with COVID-19 and 11 non-COVID-19 cancer patients hospitalised in the same unit at the same period for other medical issues were analysed. We also used 10 healthy volunteers as controls. Peripheral immune parameters were analysed using multiparametric flow cytometry.

The median age of COVID-19-positive cancer patients was 71.1 years, and 66.4 years for controls. Compared with non-COVID-19 cancer patients, COVID-19-positive cancer patients had more extensive lymphopenia and hypoalbuminemia, with higher levels of C-reactive protein.
