A method involving three IMU (3IMU) shows good validity with motion capture systems, but the hardware cost and the need for multiple sensors may make it a barrier for implementation in a sport context. A method using only one wheel mounted IMU (1IMU) has been developed that may reduce this cost, but further validation is required. This study assessed the validity of 1IMU compared to 3IMU, across a variety of continuous and discrete measurements during common on-court testing protocols, using national team athletes. Subjects recruited from national Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Rugby programs performed a series of sprint, agility, and pivot testing protocols. Continuous wheel speed, frame rotation, and wheelchair speed data as well as a number of important discrete metrics including peak linear and rotational speeds, were compared between 3IMU and 1IMU. Overall, 1IMU offers a lower cost solution that provides valid information for pertinent outcomes in wheelchair sports to use in the field.Despite the proliferation of research exploring complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) use in maternity care and midwifery practice, there is a gap on midwives' level of CAM knowledge and education/training. This national survey investigated Australian midwives' knowledge and education/training in CAM. A total of 571 midwives completed the survey (16%). Over half (54.3%) had some level of CAM education/training (self-learning to diploma) and with multiple CAM modalities. The top four modalities that midwives had received education/training were acupressure (66.5%), aromatherapy (60.3%), massage (45.5%), and reflexology (37.7%). There was a significant correlation between midwives attending a CAM workshop with competency-assessment (p less then 0.000) and confidence to discuss CAM options with pregnant women compared with participants who have not. There are no other health-related therapies used by women consumers with such frequency where clinicians are not expected to have baseline knowledge and understanding. Midwifery education programs need to include evidence-based information on CAM modalities.

Academic stress can exert severe stress in adolescents answering their career deciding board exams. The present study attempted to understand the efficacy of Yoga Nidra (YN) in mitigating psychosocial stress.

and Methods This study was carried on 10th-grade students (ages 14 to 16) and had two arms, one performing YN (experimental) and the other without YN (control) for 21 consecutive days. Modified Adolescent Stress Questionnaire (ASQ-I) was used to assess the stress in the students before and after the intervention.

The results indicate that performing YN was effective and significantly decreased the total stress (P<0.001) and vital domains like the stress of home life (P<0.005), school performance (P<0.026), teacher interaction (P<0.024), future uncertainty (P<0.001), school and leisure conflict (P<0.001). Also, at the end of the study in control, low and moderate stress was observed in 58.06% and 41.93%, while in the YN group, it was 96.15% and 3.85% and was statistically significant (p<0.001).

This study shows that YN effectively reduced psychosocial stress in adolescents and could be useful in school curriculum.

There is increasing interest in the health effects of air pollution. However, the relationships between ozone exposure and mortality attributable to neurological diseases remain unclear.

To assess associations of long-term exposure to ozone with death from Parkinson's disease, dementia, stroke, and multiple sclerosis.

Our analyses were based on the 2001 Canadian Census Health and Environment Cohort. Census participants were linked with vital statistics records through 2016, resulting in a cohort of 3.5 million adults/51,045,700 person-years, with 8,500/51,300/43,300/1,300 deaths from Parkinson's/dementia/stroke/multiple sclerosis, respectively. Ten-year average ozone concentrations estimated by chemical transport models and adjusted by ground measurements were assigned to subjects based on postal codes. Cox proportional hazards models were used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) for deaths from the four neurological diseases, adjusting for eight common demographic and socioeconomic factors, seven environmental indexes, and six contextual covariates.

The fully adjusted HRs for Parkinson's, dementia, stroke, and multiple sclerosis mortalities related to one interquartile range increase in ozone (10.1ppb), were 1.09 (95% confidence interval 1.04-1.14), 1.08 (1.06-1.10), 1.06 (1.04-1.09), and 1.35 (1.20-1.51), respectively. The covariates did not influence significance of the ozone-mortality associations, except airshed (i.e., broad region of Canada). During the period of 2001-2016, 5.66%/5.01%/ 3.77%/19.11% of deaths from Parkinson's/dementia/stroke/multiple sclerosis, respectively, were attributable to ozone exposure.

There is an urgent need to discover a biomarker to identify early on patients at risk of developing serious complications and to find an effective treatment that could prevent disease progression and critical states. Herein, we hypothesize that butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid initially produced by the gut microbiota, could be administered as supportive therapy to prevent immune system activation and disease progression.A Gram-positive, anaerobic coccus isolated from a human surgical site infection was previously shown to belong to an unknown species of the genus Peptoniphilus initially proposed as 'Peptoniphilus nemausus' sp. nov., based on both 16S rRNA gene sequence identity of 97.9% with the most closely related species Peptoniphilus coxii and an individualized phylogenetic branching within the genus Peptoniphilus. A polyphasic characterization of the novel species is proposed herein. Whole genome sequence analysis showed an average nucleotide identity value of 84.75% and digital DNA-DNA hybridization value of 28.9% against P. coxii type strain. The strain displayed unique features among members of the genus Peptoniphilus, as it was able to hydrolyze aesculin, and produced acetate as the major metabolic end-product without associated production of butyrate. Growth was observed under microaerophilic conditions. From all these data, the isolate is confirmed as belonging to a new Peptoniphilus species, for which the name Peptoniphilus nemausensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 1804121828T (=LMG 31466T = CECT 9935T). Here we established a robust protocol with high scalability for generating striatal medium spiny neurons (MSNs) from hiPSCs using small molecules under two- and three-dimensional culture conditions. Using this protocol, GSH2+ lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE) progenitors were generated in two-dimensional culture by Sonic hedgehog signaling activation using purmorphamine, WNT signaling inhibition using XAV939, and dual-SMAD inhibition using LDN193189 and A83-01. Quantitative PCR analysis revealed sequential expression of LGE and striatal genes during differentiation. These LGE progenitors subsequently gave rise to DARPP32+ MSNs exhibiting spontaneous and evoked monophasic spiking activity. Applying this protocol in three-dimensional culture, we generated striatal neurospheres with gene expression profiles and cell layer organization resembling that of the developing striatum, including distinct ventricular and subventricular zones and DARPP32+ neurons at the surface.
