Similarly, uncontrolled RA, which is defined by the necessity to switch a biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARD), increases the incidence of VTE in observational studies. Moreover, DMARDs may impact the risk of VTE, especially in the time window after first prescription. Several biological DMARDs like tofacitinib have been associated with an increased risk of VTE. Therefore, patients with RA may require specific measures in terms of VTE diagnosis and management. In this review, we provide current insights into the pathophysiology, epidemiology, clinical considerations, and treatment strategies of VTE highlighting gaps in evidence and perspectives in patients with RA.

To assess the value of the lateral dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) spine scans for the diagnosis of disc degeneration.

Seventy-seven individuals aged 18 and over, with or without disc degeneration, had both lateral thoracolumbar spine radiographs and DXA spine scans (≤6months between both exams). Disc degeneration was assessed using the Lane score. The images of 20 randomly selected individuals were assessed by two readers.

Almost 13% of the thoracic levels were not assessable on the DXA scans. For the identification of the intervertebral levels on the DXA scans as interpretable or not, the intra-reader agreement was good (κ=0.81) and the inter-reader agreement was fair (κ=0.27-0.36). For the diagnostic criteria (osteophytes, disc space narrowing, osteosclerosis, overall grade), the intra-reader agreement was excellent for the radiographs (κ=0.89-0.92), good for the DXA scans (κ=0.64-0.83) and fair to moderate for the between-method comparison (κ=0.25-0.44). The inter-reader agreement was moderate to good for the radiographs (κ=0.49-0.66) and fair to good for the DXA scans (κ=0.32-0.74). In the per patient analysis (the most severe grade), the intra-reader agreement was excellent for the radiographs (κ=0.85-0.94), moderate to excellent for the DXA scans (κ=0.53-0.85) and poor to good for the between-methods comparison (κ=0.17-0.63).

To guide Therapeutic Patient Education (TPE) programs to improve patients' and spouses' perceived health, we aimed to analyze the effect of the spouse health state and patient-spouse relationship on functional impairment, mental health and self-efficacy of patients with RA or SpA.

In this observational cross-sectional study, inclusion criteria were age≥18years and diagnosis of RA or SpA. The outcome criteria were functional impairment and mental health measured by the Medical Outcomes Study Short-Form 12-item version (SF-12-MCS); mental health measured by the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12); and self-efficacy by the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE Scale). Caregiver-patient relationship was assessed by the Personal Assessment of Intimacy in Relationships (PAIR) questionnaire and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS); social support by the Social Support Questionnaire-6 and spousal burden by the Zarit questionnaire.

A total of 88 patient-spouse couples were included. Patients were mostly female (n=68, faction with social support of both members of the couple on the patient's mental health.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is more prevalent in women, but sex differences remain incompletely understood. This study aimed to elucidate sex differences in clinical characteristics and their potential impact on clinical outcomes in a large Korean cohort of patients with RA.

In total, 5376 RA patients from the KORean Observational study Network for Arthritis (KORONA) database were examined at baseline and for 3 consecutive years using the disease activity score 28 (DAS28), health assessment questionnaire (HAQ), and patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Within a subgroup with active disease (DAS28≥3.2) at baseline, sex impacts on clinical outcome during follow-up were analyzed using generalized estimating equation (GEE) models. The factors related to achieving clinical remission were analyzed using Cox-proportional hazard regression.

At baseline, women (n=4574) were younger and had more erosive disease and longer disease duration than men (n=802) with higher scores in DAS28, HAQ, and PROs. The prevalence of interstitial lung disease, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes in men was higher than that of women. In a RA subgroup with active disease at baseline, GEE analyses demonstrated that women RA significantly influenced the rate of change of DAS28 over time. In that group, men are associated with achieving DAS28 sustained remission and point remission.

Here we compared 20 genomes of Longlin goat to 66 genomes of other seven goat breeds worldwide to analyze patterns of Longlin goat genetic variation. The spotted-wing Drosophila (Drosophila suzukii) is native to eastern Asia but has spread globally as an invasive pest of fruit crops, so biocontrol strategies are urgently required for this species. We therefore isolated the β2tubulin ortholog Ds-β2t from the USA laboratory strain of D. suzukii and confirmed the presence of functional motifs by aligning orthologs from multiple insects. The developmental expression profile of Ds-β2t was determined by RT-PCR using gene-specific primers and was similar to that of Dm-β2t. We then isolated the Ds-β2t promoter and used it to generate transgenic strains expressing a testis-specific fluorescent protein starting from the thirdinstar larvae. Efficient sexing was achieved based on fluorescence detection, and the transgenic males showed a similar survival rate to wild-type males. Fluorescence imaging and PCR were also used to confirm the insemination of wild-type females by transgenic males. Being stable, conserved and cell- or tissue-specific, circRNAs have shown their potentials as molecular markers for cancer. Convenient and noninvasive approaches may be developed based on the roles of circRNAs to diagnose or predict the prognosis of tumors. Although most of the potential mechanisms are not entirely clear, circRNAs have shown a universal and critical role in regulating cellular processes of cancers. This review summarized the classification, formation, characteristics, detection, and biological functions of circRNAs. We proposed the possibility of using circRNAs as biomarkers for cancer diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.
