There was variation among specimens in magnitudes of anterior-posterior displacement with peaks ranging from 3.3 mm posteriorly to 3.0 mm anteriorly. Likewise, there was variation among specimens in magnitude of axial rotation, with peaks ranging from 11° external rotation to 4.5° internal rotation. However, the mean magnitudes of AP displacement and axial rotation did not exceed those specified by ISO 22622.Actinic cheilitis is a premalignant condition that can progress to squamous cell carcinoma with a higher propensity for metastasis than cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. Optimal treatment for actinic cheilitis has not been established, and evidence-based estimates of clinical cure in the dermatology literature are limited. Here, we review and synthesize outcome data published for patients with actinic cheilitis after treatment with various modalities. A systematic review was conducted in MEDLINE, Embase and the Cochrane library for English, French and German-language studies and references of included articles from inception to 20 January 2020. Studies were included if they reported on at least six patients with biopsy-proven actinic cheilitis. After quality appraisal, results of studies with the strongest methodology criteria were synthesized. 18 studies of 411 patients (published 1985 to 2016) were included. The majority of the studies were case series. Carbon dioxide laser ablation and vermilionectomy were associated with the most favourable outcomes with fewest recurrences. Chemical peel and photodynamic therapy were associated with higher recurrence. Adverse effects generally resolved in the weeks following treatment and cosmetic outcomes were favourable overall. In conclusion, there is a lack of high-quality comparative studies evaluating different treatment options for actinic cheilitis. The included publications used various outcome measures; however, the majority reported on the recently defined core outcome sets. These results suggest that both carbon dioxide laser ablation and vermilionectomy are effective treatments for actinic cheilitis. Prospective head-to-head studies are needed to compare these treatment modalities and to assess patient preferences.

Online adaptive radiotherapy would greatly benefit from the development of reliable auto-segmentation algorithms for organs-at-risk and radiation targets. Current practice of manual segmentation is subjective and time-consuming. While deep learning-based algorithms offer ample opportunities to solve this problem, they typically require large datasets. However, medical imaging data are generally sparse, in particular annotated MR images for radiotherapy. In this study, we developed a method to exploit the wealth of publicly available, annotated CT images to generate synthetic MR images, which could then be used to train a convolutional neural network (CNN) to segment the parotid glands on MR images of head and neck cancer patients.

Imaging data comprised 202 annotated CT and 27 annotated MR images. The unpaired CT and MR images were fed into a 2D CycleGAN network to generate synthetic MR images from the CT images. Annotations of axial slices of the synthetic images were generated by propagating the CT contthe same type via image style transfer from annotated CT images. Furthermore, as this technique allows for fast adaptation of annotated datasets from one imaging modality to another, it could prove useful for translating between large varieties of MRI contrasts due to differences in imaging protocols within and between institutions.

The introduced cross-modality learning technique can be of great value for segmentation problems with sparse training data. We anticipate using this method with any nonannotated MRI dataset to generate annotated synthetic MR images of the same type via image style transfer from annotated CT images. Furthermore, as this technique allows for fast adaptation of annotated datasets from one imaging modality to another, it could prove useful for translating between large varieties of MRI contrasts due to differences in imaging protocols within and between institutions. The kinesin superfamily of proteins (KIFs) are microtubule motor proteins that use the hydrolysis of ATP to power directional movement along microtubules. KIFs induce microtubule depolymerization to regulate the length and dynamics of microtubules in a variety of cell processes and structures, including the mitotic and meiotic spindles and centriole and interphase microtubules. KIF plays a significant role in the transport of organelles, protein complexes and mRNAs. The brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens) is a major insect pest in rice paddy fields. Ovarian development is regulated by multiple factors, including endocrine factors. The role of KIFs in brown planthopper ovarian development remains unknown. We found that downregulation of KIF2A significantly compromised the development and eclosion of the brown planthopper, delayed ovarian cell cycle progression, disrupted ovarian development, reduced the expression of MCM genes required for DNA replication and significantly reduced the number of nuclei in the follicles. We also found a significant reduction in Vg mRNA and protein levels. We conclude that downregulation of KIF2A disrupts the cell cycle progression of cells. Alternatively, the ovarian phenotype could be an indirect effect of a compromised trophic cord. In summary, KIF2A regulates ovarian development via modulating cell cycle progression and/or vitollogenin transportation.

The aim of this study is to provide a precise population-based data on incidence, types, and causes of SE according to the 2015 ILAE definition and classification using a prospectively cohort in an adult population of a non-urban area.

Prospective observational SE cohort in a single large community hospital. The center is the only one in the region (French-speaking Valais canton), with all available resources to treat SE (including neurologist available 24/7, EEG monitoring and ICU). Every adult patient with SE is included (except post-anoxic SE). All variables are collected prospectively using the 2015 ILAE status epilepticus classification.

We identified 103 patients with SE in the study period between 1st of May 2015 and 30th of June 2019 for a population of 260,855 people. The incidence is 8.6 per 100,000 adults per year with an overall case-fatality rate of 7.8%. SE was generalized convulsive in 52% of cases and nonconvulsive SE in coma in 34%.

Using a prospective reliable data collection with strict inclusion criteria, we found an incidence of 8.6 per 100,000 persons per year, in line with previous report using similar methods. The most severe forms-generalized convulsive and nonconvulsive SE in coma-represent the majority of cases. These data might be important for resources allocation in non-urban area with non-university healthcare system.

To establish the storage conditions of oxytocin in a health facility in a low-income country with a tropical climate, as suboptimal storage may lead to ineffectiveness of drugs essential to prevent and treat postpartum hemorrhage.

At Mulago National Referral Hospital (28000-33000 deliveries/year) in Kampala, Uganda, temperature logging Safe-Rx cards were placed in boxes of oxytocin and in every known storage location. The route of the boxes through the hospital was tracked for 54days, and storage conditions were observed.

Oxytocin was stored within the recommended temperature range (2°C-8°C) 24% of the time. The average temperature measured within the oxytocin boxes was 18.2°C, with a minimum of -2.3°C and maximum of 30.4°C. Six out of twelve known storage places had a refrigerator, but not one location stored medication at the recommended temperature constantly. The average temperature in the storage places ranged from 9.5°C to 27.6°C, with a minimum temperature of 2.3°C and maximum of 30.9°C.

Oxytocin is not stored in the recommended temperature range for the majority of time. The presence of refrigerators does not ensure adherence to advised temperature storage conditions.

In this report, two GCTs with atypical FNAC features are described in order to investigate the causes and provide possible diagnostic tips. From a series of nine histologically proven GCTs, two inconclusive FNAC cases were retrieved. Smears were poorly cellular showing isolated naked nuclei, anisonucleosis, granular chromatin and occasional small nucleoli. The background was finely granular in one case. Histological controls of these cases revealed marked fibrosis. Tumour-associated fibrosis in GCT is variable and does not seem to influence clinical behaviour but it influences the harvest and the integrity of granular cells collected by FNAC. click here When GCT smears are poorly cellular, attention should be paid to the granular background and to the few granular cells, if any, as they might be the only features to suggest a GCT.

To evaluate the risk of fetal involvement when trisomy 8 mosaicism (T8M) is detected in chorionic villus samples (CVS).

A retrospective descriptive study of registered pregnancies in Denmark with T8M in CVS identified through a database search and a review of published cases of T8M found through a systematic literature search and inclusion of cross references. Pregnancies with T8M in CVS and no additional numerical chromosomal aberrations were included.

A total of 37 Danish cases and 60 published cases were included. T8M detected in a CVS was associated with fetal involvement in 18 out of 97 pregnancies (18.6% [95%CI 11.4-27.7]). Eight out of 70 (11.4% [95%CI 5.1-21.3]) interpreted prenatally to be confined placental mosaicism (CPM) were subsequently found to be true fetal mosaicisms (TFM).

T8M detected in CVS poses a significant risk of fetal involvement, and examination of amniotic fluid (AF) and/or fetal tissue should be offered. However, a normal result of AF still has a considerable residual risk of fetal involvement. Genetic counselling at an early gestational age is essential, and follow-up ultrasonography should be performed to predict fetal involvement if possible.
