Furthermore, the analysis of protein biomarkers, including CAT and GST (antioxidant response), AChE and ACh (neurotoxicity), CRP and LYS (immune response), revealed that NEB exposure reduced the activity of these biomarkers, whereas UV radiation could alleviate the effects. The present study provides initial insights into the mechanisms underlying toxic effects of NEB and the detoxification effects of UV radiation on the early development of zebrafish. selleck products It highlights the necessity of considering the toxicity of UV-TPs when evaluating the toxicity of emerging pollutants in aquatic systems.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of aromatherapy and Su Jok interventions as nonpharmacological methods of relieving pain after cesarean section.

This randomized controlled trial was conducted with 120 women who had cesarean delivery in the gynecology and obstetrics department of a training and research hospital between February 9 and October 2, 2019. The participants were allocated to the aromatherapy group, Su Jok group, Su Jok and aromatherapy group, or control group using block randomization based on parity. Su Jok was performed using buckwheat seed; aromatherapy was applied using lavender, eucalyptus, or rose oil. Data were collected using a participant information form and pain was assessed using the Visual Analog Scale.

There was no significant difference between the groups in mean pain levels before or after the intervention, although the control group had less initial pain compared to the intervention groups. However, all three intervention groups showed significant decreases in pain levels immediately and 30min after the intervention compared to pre-intervention levels (p<0.05). The intervention in all three groups reduced the level of pain. In particular, the pain level of the Su Jok group reached from moderate to mild. There was no significant change in the control group.

Aromatherapy and Su Jok interventions performed separately and simultaneously in addition to routine hospital care were more effective in reducing post-cesarean pain than routine care alone.

Without treatment, impetigo may be recurrent, develop into severe disease, or have serious, life-threatening sequelae. Standard treatment consists of topical or systemic antibiotic therapy (depending on severity), however, due to antibiotic resistance some therapies are increasingly ineffective. In this study we evaluated the potential for honey as an alternative treatment for impetigo. A broth microdilution assay in 96-well microtitre trays was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of six monofloral honeys (jarrah, marri, red bell, banksia, wandoo, and manuka), a multifloral honey and artificial honey against S. aureus (n = 10), S. pyogenes (n = 10), and coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) (n = 10). The optical density (OD) of all microtitre tray wells was also determined before and after assay incubation to analyse whether sub-MIC growth inhibition occurred. Jarrah, marri, red bell, banksia, and manuka honeys were highly effective at inhibiting S. aureus and CoNS, with MIC50 values ranging from 4 to 8% w/v honey. S. pyogenes was also inhibited by these same honeys, albeit at higher concentrations (8-29% w/v). Wandoo and multifloral honeys had the least antibacterial activity with MICs of >30% (w/v) for all isolates. However, OD data indicated that sub-MIC concentrations of honey were still partially restricting bacterial growth. Our pre-clinical data indicate that honey may be a potential therapeutic agent for the routine treatment of mild impetigo, and we suggest that clinical trials would be appropriate to further investigate this.Índralupta is a disease characterized by patches of hair loss spread throughout the body and scalp. It can be considered alopecia areata according to conventional medical care. The present case report is on the effectiveness of shodhana (treatment in which aggravated doshas are expelled from the body) and shamana (treatment that pacifies the aggravated doshas) in the patient of índralupta. A patient 25 years old, had hair loss patches on the scalp and many other areas of the body. The patient took conventional modern medicine as well as ayurveda treatment but didn't get a satisfactory result. The patient was hospitalized and treated with vamana (medicated emesis), virechana (medicated purgation), basti (administration of medicine through procto-colonic route), raktamokshana (blood-letting), and nasya (medicine administered through nasal route) along with shamana treatment for more than 6 weeks. The hair eruption started from many patches of the scalp and whole body. In this case, regrowth of hair from hair follicles was evident within 15 days of treatment. The collected data of this study suggest that shodhana and shamana treatment can provide noteworthy relief in índralupta.

Panchavalkala Kwatha and Jatyadi Taila are recommended for cleaning and healing of non-healing ulcers such as Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) and Varicose Ulcers (VU).

Innovative topical aerosol sprays viz. Panchavalkala Kwatha Aerosol Spray (PKS) and Jatyadi Taila (Healz) Aerosol Spray (JTS) were evaluated for healing in DFU & VU against conventional treatment.

After obtaining approval from Ethics Commitees & informed consent, 53 patients were randomized in two study groups. In one group, ulcer cleaning was done with PKS and then JTS was used for dressing while in other group, cleaning was done with Hydrogen peroxide and/or Hypochlorite followed by dressing with 10% Povidone iodine. Ulcer examination was done from baseline to every 7th day by Bates Jensen ulcer assessment tool, digital photographs and photographic ulcer assessment tool. Comparison of categorical variables was done using t-test.

The dual action of PKS and JTS exhibited potentially comparable effect to the conventional treatment.

PKS and JTS were found to be effective, comfortable, hygenic and acceptable in management of chronic ulcers.

Fat exists in the liver naturally, but if it surpasses 5-10% of the liver's total weight, it can result in fatty liver. In this case, report effect of Ayurveda intervention in grade II fatty liver is reported. Thirty-five-year-old obese male with grade II fatty liver presented with fatigue, abdominal pain, heaviness, and incomplete bowel evacuation to the National Institute of Ayurveda hospital, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. On examination, there was no significant clinical abnormality except a high body mass index (BMI = 30.2). Hematological examinations revealed altered Alanine transaminase, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and triglycerides. The patient was diagnosed sonologically with a grade II fatty liver. The patient was given Ayurveda treatment for two months with three treatment regimens. The patient was assessed for improvement in signs and symptoms, hematological parameters, and quality of life using a chronic liver disease questionnaire (CLDQ). After two months, significant improvement was observed in signs and symptoms, BMI (24.7), and CLDQ. No fatty tissue was reported sonologically, and all altered biochemical parameters were within normal limits. Present case highlights the potential of Ayurveda interventions in managing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and obesity. We recently reported diethynylarene-linked bis(triarylborane) tetracations which show remarkable fluorimetric and Raman-SERS sensing of DNA/RNA. In the current study, we show that they exhibit promising photodynamic therapy (PDT)-based biological activity on human cell lines and adenovirus type 5 (HAdV5), acting as theranostic agents. All compounds efficiently enter living cells showing negligible antiproliferative activity. Bis-thiophene- and anthracene- analogues bind non-covalently to HAdV5 virus with high affinity, the anthracene-analogue itself causing a moderate antiviral effect, i.e., decreased ability of the virus to infect human cells. Irradiation of bis-thiophene- and anthracene- analogues with visible light (400-700 nm) caused a very rapid (within 1 min) and strong increase in cytotoxicity, as well as an order of magnitude increase in antiviral activity, attributed to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Photochemical studies of the compounds revealed that, upon irradiation, they produce singlet oxygen, which correlates with the observed light-induced bioactivity.

Dentigerous cysts are benign odontogenic cysts of developmental origin. Enucleation and marsupialization are still considered the blueprint of cystic lesion treatment.

A 23-year-old male patient presented complaining of a minimal swelling in his upper jaw with slight tenderness in his upper anterior teeth. Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) on the maxilla was requested. The cystic lesion was found to be minimally expansile with intact cortical plates of the maxilla in the affected area. The CBCT was used to fabricate a cutting guide to determine the exact location of the bony window to fully access the lesion. Root canal treatment was done for the affected non-vital teeth. The cuts were done using a piezo-electric device. Complete enucleation was done for the lesion followed by fixation of the cortical bone lid using micro-plates and screws. The case was followed up after 6months for new bone deposition using CBCT and 1week, 1month, and 6months postoperatively for postoperative pain using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).

Piezo-electric surgery was used due to the selective cutting merit to cut through bone while preserving the cystic lining intact. Lid surgery aims to maximize the volume of bone deposited in place of the defect by converting the cavity of the cystic lesion into a contained defect.

Guided lid surgery using a piezo-electric device could be a useful technique for cystic enucleation regarding the new bone formation and pain level.

Early thoracic empyema is usually treated through video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) decortication. Patient selection is important for decortication if an effective surgical outcome is required. Lung isolation techniques are required to provide anesthesia for these patients to facilitate the surgeon while operating on the affected lung. The ultimate target is to protect the non-diseased contra-lateral lung from contamination.

We are presenting a unique case of 20-year-old female, resident of Karachi, who was brought to the emergency room (ER) with signs of sepsis, hypotension, and multi-organ failure. She was brought to the operating room to undergo video-assisted thoracoscopy (VATS) for lung abscess decortication when her medical therapy had failed. On table decision of right upper lobe resection was made and ventilation strategy had to be modified accordingly.

The main anaesthetic aim was to protect the healthy parts of the lung from the abscess. Regular suctioning of secretions during surgery via the double lumen tube (DLT) lumen on the diseased side is recommended.
