h sociodemographic variables, such as gender, age, or education, as well as with the individual level of disgust propensity.

The Czech SPQ and SBQ may produce reliable and valid assessments of spider fear, but they must be further psychometrically tested considering the limitation of this study before wider use. We corroborate previous findings that fear of spiders is significantly associated with sociodemographic variables, such as gender, age, or education, as well as with the individual level of disgust propensity.

The aim of the study was to investigate the risk of human papillomavirus (HPV) genotyping particularly vaccine genotypes and multiple infections for cervical precancer and cancer, which might contribute to developing genotype-specific screening strategy and assessing potential effects of HPV vaccine.

The HPV genotypes were identified using the Seq HPV assay on self-collected samples. Hierarchical ranking of each genotype was performed according to positive predictive value (PPV) for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 2/3 or worse (CIN2+/CIN3+). Multivariate logistic regression model was used to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence interval (CI) of CIN2+ according to multiplicity of types and vaccine types.

A total of 2811 HPV-positive women were analyzed. The five dominant HPV genotypes in high-grade lesions were 16/58/52/33/18. The overall ranking orders were HPV16/33/35/58/31/68/18/ 56/52/66/51/59/45/39 for CIN2+ and HPV16/33/31/58/45/66/52/18/35/56/51/68/59/39 for CIN3+. The risks of sicervical cancer and precancer were substantial attributable to HPV genotypes covered by current nonavalent vaccination.

Partial extended genotyping such as HPV33/31/58 but not multiplicity of HPV infections could serve as a promising triage for HPV-positive self-samples. Moreover, incidence rates of cervical cancer and precancer were substantial attributable to HPV genotypes covered by current nonavalent vaccination.

There is a shortage of research evidence about how social isolation, social participation, and loneliness were longitudinally associated with frailty. This study was to 1) examine the associations of social isolation, social participation, and loneliness with level of frailty among community-dwelling older adults using panel data, and 2) explore the moderating effect of gender on the association of social isolation, social participation and loneliness with frailty.

The study included 606 participants aged 60years and above from the longitudinal Population Health Index Survey conducted in Singapore. At each timepoint, level of frailty was determined using the Clinical Frailty Scale. Social isolation was assessed by the Lubben Social Network Scale-6, and loneliness was assessed using the three-item UCLA Loneliness Scale. Fixed-effects ordinal logistic regressions were conducted with level of frailty as the dependent variable and social isolation and loneliness as the independent variables, adjusting for time-varying socio-demographic, lifestyle, and health-related factors.

Increase in social participation was associated with lower level of frailty (odds ratio 0.96, 95% confidence interval 0.93-0.99) and feeling lonely was associated with higher level of frailty (odds ratio 2.90, 95% confidence interval 1.44-5.84). Social isolation was not associated with frailty. Gender did not have moderating effect on these associations.

This study observed that social isolation and loneliness had differential longitudinal association with level of frailty among community-dwelling older adults and suggested that loneliness and frailty should be measured and addressed concurrently among community-dwelling older adults.

The molecular mechanism underlying sexual reproduction in land plants is well understood in model plants and is a target for crop improvement. However, unlike land plants, the genetic basis involved in triggering reproduction and gamete formation remains elusive in most seaweeds, which are increasingly viewed as an alternative source of functional food and feedstock for energy applications.

Gametogenesis of Ulva mutabilis, a model organism for green seaweeds, was studied. We analyzed transcriptome dynamics at different time points during gametogenesis following induction of reproduction by fragmentation and removal of sporulation inhibitors. Analyses demonstrated that 45% of the genes in the genome were differentially expressed during gametogenesis. We identified several transcription factors that potentially play a key role in the early gametogenesis of Ulva given the function of their homologs in higher plants and microalgae. In particular, the detailed expression pattern of an evolutionarily conserved transcription factor containing an RWP-RK domain suggested a key role during Ulva gametogenesis.

Transcriptomic analyses of gametogenesis in the green seaweed Ulva highlight the importance of a conserved RWP-RK transcription factor in the induction of sexual reproduction. The identification of putative master regulators of gametogenesis provides a starting point for further functional characterization.

Ginseng red skin root syndrome (GRS) is one of the most common ginseng (Panax ginseng Meyer) diseases. It leads to a severe decline in P. ginseng quality and seriously affects the P. ginseng industry in China. However, as a root disease, the characteristics of the GRS rhizosphere microbiome are still unclear.

The amplicon bacterial 16S rRNA genes and fungal ITS (Internal Transcribed Spacer) regions Illumina sequencing technology, combined with microbial diversity and composition analysis based on R software, was used to explore the relationship between soil ecological environment and GRS.

There were significant differences in the diversity and richness of soil microorganisms between the rhizosphere with different degrees of disease, especially between healthy P. ginseng (HG) and heavily diseased groups. selleck chemicals The variation characteristics of microbial abundance in different taxa levels were analyzed. The interaction network of rhizosphere microorganisms of P. ginseng under GRS background was established. We avely analyzed the rhizosphere characteristics of P. ginseng with different levels of disease, and explored the interaction relationship among microorganisms. These results provide a basis for soil improvement and biological control of field-grown in the future.

This study was aimed to assess the prevalence of hyperuricemia and its associated risk factors among hypertensive patients in Southwest China.

From September 2013 to March 2014, a multistage, stratified sampling was conducted on 3505 hypertensive people aged 50-79years who lived in urban communities within Chengdu and Chongqing, using a questionnaire and performing physical and biochemical measurements.

In the study population, approximately 18.2% of all hypertensive participants had hyperuricemia (638/3505), with a prevalence rate of 21.5% in men and 16.2% in women (p < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that aging, without spouse, current drinking, preferring hotpot, hypertriglyceridemia, BMI ≥ 25kg/ m

, and central obesity were all positively correlated with hyperuricemia, whereas female gender was negatively correlated with hyperuricemia. The prevalence of hyperuricemia among hypertensive patients in urban adults aged 50-79years in southwestern China was high, while levels of awareness were extremely low.

Improved hyperuricemia health knowledge should be delivered to improve public awareness of the disease and it may need aggressive strategies aiming at the prevention and treatment of hyperuricemia. It is may necessary to encourage people to check blood uric acid levels when they first time to be diagnosed with hypertension, especially in the elderly.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is technically difficult and requires considerable training. The authors have developed a multi-loop traction device (MLTD), a new traction device that offers easy attachment and detachment. We aimed to evaluate the utility of MLTD in ESD.

This ex vivo pilot study was a prospective, block-randomized, comparative study of a porcine stomach model. Twenty-four lesions were assigned to a group that undertook ESD using the MLTD (M-ESD group) and a group that undertook conventional ESD (C-ESD group) to compare the speed of submucosal dissection. In addition, the data of consecutive 10 patients with eleven gastric lesions was collected using electronic medical records to clarify the inaugural clinical outcomes of gastric ESD using MLTD.

The median (interquartile range) speed of submucosal dissection in the M-ESD and C-ESD groups were 141.5 (60.9-177.6) mm2/min and 35.5 (20.8-52.3) mm2/min, respectively; submucosal dissection was significantly faster in the M-ESD group (p < 0.05). The rate of en bloc resection and R0 resection was 100% in both groups, and there were no perforation in either group. The MLTD attachment time was 2.5 ± 0.9min and the MLTD extraction time was 1.0 ± 1.1min. Clinical outcomes of MLTD in gastric ESD were almost the same as those of ex vivo pilot study.

MLTD increased the speed of submucosal dissection in ESD and was similarly effective when used by expert and trainee endoscopists without perforation. MLTD can potentially ensure a safer and faster ESD.

The genetic basis of hybrid incompatibilities is characterized by pervasive cases of gene interactions. Sex chromosomes play a major role in speciation and X-linked hybrid male sterility (HMS) genes have been identified. Interestingly, some of these genes code for proteins with DNA binding domains, suggesting a capability to act as trans-regulatory elements and disturb the expression of a large number of gene targets. To understand how interactions between trans- and cis-regulatory elements contribute to speciation, we aimed to map putative X-linked trans-regulatory elements and to identify gene targets with disrupted gene expression in sterile hybrids between the subspecies Drosophila pseudoobscura pseudoobscura and D. p. bogotana.

We find six putative trans-regulatory proteins within previously mapped X chromosome HMS loci with sequence changes that differentiate the two subspecies. Among them, the previously characterized HMS gene Overdrive (Ovd) had the largest number of amino acid changes between subspecies, with some substitutions localized within the protein's DNA binding domain.
