6 nm and 9.8 nm, respectively, which led to its high performance of O2 activation. The removal efficiency of SMR and 90.2% TOC achieved 100% and 90.2%, respectively in the CuxO@C/air system at initial pH of 4.0, air flow rate of 100 mL min-1, CuxO@C dosage of 1 g L-1 and reaction time of 30 min. Reactive species, including H2O2, OH and O2- radicals were detected in the CuxO@C/air system, and OH and O2- were mainly responsible for the degradation of SMR.This work monitored the effect of a municipal and a village wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) technology on the fate of beta-lactam resistance genes in bacterial populations in different phases of the wastewater treatment process. In case of the municipal WWTP1, the bacteria possessing a high ampicillin resistance (minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 20 mg/mL) accumulated in the sedimentation tank, which was accompanied with a higher concentration of ampicillin in the wastewater samples (28.09 ng/L) and an increase in the relative abundance of the blaTEM gene in the bacterial population. However, an opposite trend was revealed with the blaNDM-1 gene, making the sedimentation processes of WWTP1 crucial only for the accumulation of the blaTEM gene. Similarly, the comparison with the WWTP2 showed that the accumulation of the ampicillin resistance in bacterial population probably depended on the WWTP technology and wastewater composition. Out of the four tested resistance genes (blaTEM, blaKPC, blaNDM-1, and blaOXA-48), blaTEM and blaNDM-1 genes were the only two detected in this study. According to NGS analysis of bacterial 16 S rRNA gene, Gammaproteobacteria dominated the ampicillin-resistant bacteria of the WWTP sedimentation tanks. Their relative abundance in the bacterial population also increased during the sedimentation processes in WWTP1. It could indicate the role of the bacterial taxon in ampicillin resistance accumulation in this WWTP and show that only 9.29% of the original bacterial population from the nitrification tank is involved in the documented shifts in beta-lactam resistance of the bacterial population.Recently, Mn oxides (MnOxs) have been attracting considerable interest in the oxidation of organic pollutants. However, the reduction of MnOx in these reactions leads to the deactivation of the catalyst, which must be frequently regenerated. SAG agonist We evaluated the application of a manganese-oxidizing bacterium (MOB) and MnOx in removing toxic dyes. We studied the co-function of a plant-endophytic MOB, Pantoea eucrina SS01, with its bio-generated MnOx and evaluated the detoxification activity and chemical transformation mechanisms of the complex in malachite green (MG) degradation. We found a synergistic effect between MnOx and the strain. Particularly, strain SS01 could adsorb MG but could not degrade it, whereas the addition of Mn(II) promoted MG degradation by the formation of a complex containing the bacterium and MnOx aggregates (SS01-bio-MnOx), with distinct morphology characteristics. The complex showed a marked sustainability in the degradation of MG into less toxic or non-toxic metabolites. In this process, strain SS01 might have enhanced the regeneration of MnOx, accelerating MG degradation. Our data not only contribute to understanding the mechanism of MG removal by the SS01-bio-MnOx complex, but also provide a scientific basis for the future application of MOB and MnOx.Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) is a congenital disease characterized by the absence of enteric neurons, which is derived from the failure of the proliferation, differentiation or migration of the enteric neural crest cells (ENCCs). HSCR is associated with multiple risk factors, including polygenic inheritance factors and environmental factors. Genetic studies have been extensively performed, whereas studies related to environmental factors remain insufficient. Benzophenone-3 (BP-3), one important component of the ultraviolet (UV) filters, has been proved to have cytotoxicity and neurotoxicity which might be associated with HSCR. In this study, we used zebrafish as a model to investigate the relationship between BP-3 exposure and the development of the enteric nervous system (ENS) in vivo. Embryos exposed to BP-3 showed an average of 46% reduction of the number of the enteric neurons number. Besides, the ENCCs specific markers (ret and hand2) were downregulated upon BP-3 exposure. Moreover, we identified potential targets of BP-3 through Network Pharmacology Analysis and Autodock and demonstrated that the attenuation of the MAPK/ERK signaling might be the potential mechanism underlying the inhibition of the ENS development by BP-3. Importantly, MAPK/ERK signaling agonist could be used to rescue the ENS defects of zebrafish induced by BP-3. Overall, we characterized the influence of BP-3 on ENS development in vivo and explored possible molecular mechanisms. In phytoremediation and biomonitoring, plants are used to clean and monitor contaminated environments, respectively. Thus, scientists are searching for ideal plants, i.e., those that rapidly uptake and accumulate a considerable quantity of contaminants in their tissues, with or without toxicity symptoms. All these aspects are satisfied by the annual herbaceous plant Portulaca oleracea L. P. oleracea L. is ranked eighth as "most common plant in the world" and twelfth as "non-cultivating species well colonise[d] in new areas." Because of its fast regeneration of shoots and roots from leaves and roots and leaves from the stem and its tolerance capacity for metal stress, this plant has been used for phytoremediation and biomonitoring studies in the field, as well as in pot and hydroponics studies. The growth attributes of this plant in metal-stressed environments and the uptake of metals from its growth media (via the root), which is followed by the accumulation of the metals in its tissues, have been studied. Metal is translocated from the root into the shoot and is calculated as the translocation factor, TF; the metal taken from the soil into the plant is calculated as the bioaccumulation factor, BAF. These measures have been used to determine the hyperaccumulation (uptake and storage of unusually large amounts of metals) potential of the plant. This review article critically evaluates the literature studies to increase the practicability of phytoremediation and biomonitoring approaches using various life stages of P. oleracea.
