The article reviews literature on the role of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) in the development of eye pathologies, specifically primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Regulation of the extracellular matrix is carried out by proteolytic enzymes - metalloproteinases in particular - as well as specific inhibitors of their activity (tissue metalloproteinases inhibitors). The review also reveals its involvement in the pathogenesis of various types of glaucoma, decrease in stability of the intraocular liquid outflow, proves the role of MMR in the ganglionic apoptosis, remodeling of the optic disk and change of lamina cribrosa in primary open-angle glaucoma. Simnotrelvir There is research devoted to studying the interrelations of MMP genes with POAG development. Associations of single nucleotide polymorphic loci of MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-9 genes with POAG are shown.Infectious keratitis in most cases is caused by bacterial, viral or fungal agents, but their structure is changing. Some researchers have noted a substantial increase in fungal corneal lesions in recent decades, but important local etiological therapy remains unavailable in developing countries. While bacterial keratitis and ophthalmoherpes are controlled by widely available local etiotropic therapy, treatment of keratomycosis in the Russian Federation is carried out with off-label medicine. Lack of skills and availability of diagnostic methods and official etiotropic therapy creates unequal conditions for ophthalmology specialists in the fight against ophthalmomycosis. In part, this causes a reduced level of «myco-caution», which leads to long-term ineffective treatment using antibacterial drops, lasting suffering of patients, and results in the loss of the eye functionally and - in some cases - anatomically. Therefore, the study of fungal keratitis remains relevant. The article provides an overview of research data on current epidemiology in different regions of the world, analyzes available antifungal drugs and the prospects for development of affordable and effective treatment of fungal keratitis.Modulation of wound healing is one of the main challenges in glaucoma surgery. Modern antiproliferative agents used to reduce postoperative scarring are either insufficiently effective or inadequate in terms of safety. In the search for novel agents devoid of such drawbacks, specialists directed their attention to selective inhibitors of proinflammatory cytokines and growth factors. The article reviews pathophysiologic basis of wound healing, characteristics of inflammatory mediators affecting fibroblast proliferation and scarring, and provides description of the currently used and new, potentially promising antiproliferative agents. The review summarizes experimental and clinical data attesting to the important role the choroid plays in the development of refraction through optically oriented thickness changes and the release of growth factors. Because of its unique anatomical position, the choroid can influence the transmission of a cascade of chemical signals from the retina to the sclera and thereby affect the growth of the eye. Understanding the relationship between the optical defocus and the response of the choroid to it will help uncover the fundamental mechanisms for controlling eye growth and develop new strategies for preventing the progression of myopia. This paper describes possible clinical ocular manifestations of novel coronavirus infection COVID-19. Two clinical cases of conjunctivitis are examined. Due to the lack of ophthalmological approaches to the treatment of such patients, different management tactics are given based on the severity of local and systemic disease manifestations. Our research and practical management of these conditions showed the toxic and allergic nature of ocular surface manifestations in patients with COVID-19. Such cases are proposed to be treated similar to the conjunctivitis of "unclear origin" with components from antiviral and anti-allergic therapies.

To analyze the effectiveness of artificial tear drops Thealoz (trehalose 3%) in the correction of dry eye syndrome (DES) after ReLEx SMILE and FEMTO LASIK keratorefractive surgeries.

The study included 20 patients (40 eyes) who underwent a keratorefractive surgery and were prescribed instillations of Thealoz artificial tear drops for the correction of dry eye syndrome. Patients were divided into 2 group the 1

group consisted of 10 patients who underwent ReLEx SMILE surgery, the 2nd group - 10 patients after FEMTO LASIK. The effectiveness of the treatment was evaluated at 1 and 3 months after the surgery using Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI), changes in the anterior corneal epithelium (Oxford scale), and tear break-up time (Norn's test).

It was found that the use of artificial tear drops Thealoz regardless of the type of keratorefractive surgery helps reduce discomfort based on the OSDI questionnaire from 10.90±4.55 to 10.20±4.07 and 8.89±3.26 points by 1 and 3 months of the follow-up, respectivelyll as contributes to the decrease in epitheliopathy and subjective discomfort sensations, giving grounds to widen its use in clinical practice.Prevention of decentration and dislocation of the "capsular bag + intraocular lens" (IOL) complex in the late postoperative period is an actual problem of surgical treatment of patients with pronounced lens subluxation.

To conduct a comparative clinical study of positional stability of the "capsular bag + IOL" complex in the late postoperative period after application of a combined technique of capsular bag fixation in patients with subluxation of the lens.

Phacoemulsification (PE) with in-the-bag IOL implantation and postoperative observation was performed in 213 patients (234 eyes) with cataract and pronounced lens subluxation. The 1

group consisting of 138 patients (153 eyes) underwent capsular bag fixation of the combined technique with simultaneous use of 4 modified iris-retractors and one or two capsular tension rings (CTRs). The 2

group included 75 patients (81 eyes) who in the course of PE had their capsular bag fixed beyond the edge of capsulorhexis with only 4 modified iris-retractors. Preoperative state of the lens and the evaluation of the frequency and degree of decentration of the «capsular bag + IOL» complex in the postoperative period were performed using data acquired with ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).
