gest studies to investigate the rate of CJS contact as a potential suspect in a sample of adults with ASD in an attempt to give a clearer picture of what might influence someone with ASD to engage in offending behaviour in order to try to see what mental health services can offer to reduce the likelihood of someone with ASD coming into contact with the CJS, for example, treatment for another condition or support.

Early intervention for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is dependent on reliable methods for early detection. Screening for ASD symptoms is an important strategy in low- and middle-income countries that often lack adequate service infrastructure. This study aims to conduct preliminary evaluation of the psychometric properties of a tool developed and deployed in Nigeria called the Nigerian Autism Screening Questionnaire (NASQ). Results demonstrated that NASQ, when used as a community-based survey, has a clear factor structure with consistent measurement across age and sex, and that scores from below average to well above average are measured reliably. Future research is needed to examine the performance of this tool against confirmatory ASD diagnosis in screening and diagnostic contexts to further understand the utility and applicability of this tool in the resource-limited Nigerian setting.

Soluble vascular adhesion protein-1 (sVAP-1) and adropin are 2 biomarkers of endothelial dysfunction. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the levels of sVAP-1 in patients with moderate and severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) compared to healthy controls, and to further determine the relationship between sVAP-1 and adropin levels, as well as inflammatory biomarkers and sleep parameters.

In this study, we included 50 male patients with OSA (25 moderate and 25 severe) and 20 age- and sex-matched control subjects. Patients with OSA underwent polysomnography. All subjects underwent fasting peripheral blood sampling for laboratory analysis.

Serum sVAP-1 and inflammatory biomarkers (IL-6, TNF-α, and hsCRP) levels were significantly higher in patients with severe OSA compared to those with moderate OSA and control groups, while plasma levels of adropin showed the opposite trend. Furthermore, sVAP-1 levels had a significant positive correlation with AHI, ODI, TNF-α, IL-6, and hsCRP levels and a significant negative correlation with adropin levels. The receiver operating characteristic analysis showed an Area Under Curve (AUC) of .876 (

< .001) for sVAP-1 levels predicting OSA. Serum sVAP-1 threshold of > 445.5ng/mL had an 88% sensitivity and 80% specificity for detecting OSA status. Multivariate regression analysis demonstrated that sVAP-1 remained a significant positive predictor of OSA severity.

Increased sVAP-1 levels in OSA patients are significantly correlated with indices of OSA severity, adropin levels, and inflammatory biomarkers, suggesting that sVAP-1 plays a vital role in the pathophysiology of OSA and may become a potential screening tool in the evaluation of OSA severity.

Rarely, neoplasms can show increased copies of MDM2 and CEP12 probes (polysomy) without amplification (MDM2/CEP12 ratio  4.0). H&E slides were classified by a pathologist into diagnostic categories based on morphology without knowledge of MDM2 amplification result. Correlations between chromosome 12 polysomy and histological features in the same region of the tumor were investigated. Results There were 19 (0.7%) high polysomy, 52 (2.0%) low polysomy and 3 (0.1%) CEP12 amplification cases identified in the 2541 cases screened. While low polysomy was seen across benign and malignant adipocytic tumors and other sarcomas, high level polysomy was primarily seen in liposarcomas, both atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma (ALT/WDLPS) and dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS). No lipomas were high polysomy. Conclusion Polysomy is an uncommon, but distinct, finding in adipocytic neoplasms found across the spectrum of benign to malignant with little insight into the pathophysiology or prognosis. While low polysomy is also observed in benign adipocytic neoplasms, high polysomy is almost always seen in malignant adipocytic neoplasms and is uncommon in benign adipocytic neoplasms.

Hearing voices is a common experience in young people, irrespective of diagnosis. This experience can be associated with distress, self-harm and an increased risk of attempting suicide. However, there are currently no evidence-based interventions which specifically target distressing voice hearing experiences in young people.

This was a service evaluation exploring the engagement, outcomes and experiences of young people who were offered a brief 4-session intervention for distressing voices within a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in the UK's National Health Service. The intervention was based on the principles of Coping Strategy Enhancement (CSE).

A total of 24 young people were offered the CSE intervention over a 20-month period. The intervention was completed by 15 young people. Pre-post outcomes suggested clinically meaningful reductions in the negative impact of voices for the majority of the young people. Qualitative feedback was positive and highlighted the value of both a space to talk about voice hearing experiences and a focus upon coping strategies.

The findings from this service evaluation suggest that CSE can be a brief, acceptable and helpful way for young people within a CAMHS context to start a therapeutic conversation about their distressing voice hearing experiences.

BRCA-mutated breast cancers have specific pathological characteristics. learn more BAP1 is a tumor suppressor gene that is important in many cancers with different pathways. The relationship between BRCA1 mutation and BAP1 immunohistochemical staining is still unclear. Our aim is to determine whether BAP1 immunohistochemical expression indicates BRCA mutation status in breast carcinomas with specific pathological characteristics. In addition, we aim to determine the histopathological characteristics of tumors according to BRCA mutations. Methods. Histomorphology, molecular subtypes and BAP1 immunohistochemical expression patterns of the BRCA1/BRCA2 mutated and non-mutated tumors were evaluated. The BAP1 immunohistochemical stain was applied to nine tumor tissues with the BRCA1 mutation, six tumor tissues with the BRCA2 mutation, and 16 tumor tissues without any BRCA mutation. Pearson's chi square test and the Fisher Freeman Halton test were used to analyze the associations between the datas. The statistical significance was considered as P value of less then .05. Results. Immunohistochemical BAP1 loss was not detected in any mutated or non-mutated tumor group. BRCA1 mutated tumors had the statistically highest histopathological grade (P = .04) and BRCA1/2 mutated tumors had significant immunohistochemical triple negative expression pattern (P = .01). Conclusions. Intrinsic and histopathological characteristics may vary between BRCA1 mutated and non-BRCA1 mutated tumors. Also, BAP1 loss was not detected in BRCA mutated breast tumors because of several effects of BAP1 that are non-related with BRCA in the cell cycle.

To report the variety of ocular findings which have been identified serendipitously during the screening for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in a tertiary referral center during seven-year period.

The charts of 1568 preterm infants who screened for ROP were reviewed retrospectively. Any ocular lesion except for ROP were noted. All infants had undergone routine ocular examination of the external eye, pupillary light reflex, anterior and posterior segment. Wide-angle digital retinal image acquisition system for any vitreoretinal pathology requiring a close follow-up had been utilized.

Abnormal ocular findings other than ROP were diagnosed in 296 infants (19.2%). Tunica vasculosa lentis was the most common finding (25%) followed by vitreous or retinal hemorrhages (17.2%) and retinal white lesions (16.6%). Retina was the most frequently involved anatomic site. Other frequent ocular findings included optic disc cupping, congenital cataract, optic nerve hypoplasia, choroidal nevus, persistent fetal vasculature, lid hemangioma, and tilted disc. However, life-threatening pathologies such as lipemia retinalis and even retinoblastoma were also diagnosed.

A duly ophthalmologic examination is mandatory in premature infants for ROP screening. During such examinations, ophthalmologists must be aware of coexisting ocular findings; which could be sight-threatening or even life-threatening.

Many have contended that female orgasm is a functionless by-product of male orgasm, while others have argued that female orgasm may be an adaptation in its own right, offering several adaptationist accounts of female orgasm. In the current research, we tested predictions derived from two hypotheses regarding adaptive functions of female orgasm female orgasm indicates partner mate value or female orgasm promotes long-term, pair bonding. 199 female undergraduates participated in an experiment where they imagined themselves as a member of a romantic relationship provided in a scenario. Within these scenarios, the relationships varied between either short- or long-term and the frequency that the female experienced orgasm during intercourse varied between never, occasionally, and almost always. Participants answered questions regarding relationship satisfaction and perceptions of the fictional relationship. A series of analysis of variance (ANOVAs) indicated that females assigned to conditions of experiencing more frequent orgasms reported greater relationship satisfaction, across both short- and long-term relationships.
