Dosage and exposure time will have to be investigated in more detail.Individuals with special healthcare needs have increased orthodontic treatment need, but access to care may be insufficient. The aim of this study was to assess the uptake of patients with special needs in orthodontic settings throughout Switzerland. A web-based survey was sent to all specialist orthodontist members of the Swiss Orthodontic Society. From 220 questionnaires sent, 60% were returned (n=131). 84% of participants responded that they treat patients with special needs, but most orthodontists saw only two new patients per year with special needs. Patients most frequently treated were those with Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, or intellectual deficiency. Many practitioners use fixed, removable or functional appliances for treatment of these patients, while aligner use was much less prevalent. Interceptive measures were also used. Chairside time was increased on average by 50%, and treatment duration increased by 25% when compared to other patients. Treatment goals for about half of these patients was compromised. Of orthodontists not providing treatment to individuals with special needs, 79% stated they would not be interested in treating these patients, while 56% of orthodontists already providing treatment stated they would not be interested in treating more of these patients. Reasons given included the lack of additional strategies to treat these patients, lack of referrals, problems with cooperation, and time constraints. In conclusion, roughly four in five orthodontists in Switzerland treat patients with special needs, with most of these orthodontists seeing one or two new patients with special needs annually. The majority of practitioners do not wish to increase their intake of patients with special needs.

A paucity of research addresses breast cancer screening strategies for women at lower-than-average breast cancer risk. The aim of this study was to examine screening harms and benefits among women aged 50-74 years at lower-than-average breast cancer risk by breast density.

Three well-established, validated Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Network models were used to estimate the lifetime benefits and harms of different screening scenarios, varying by screening interval (biennial, triennial). Breast cancer deaths averted, life-years and quality-adjusted life-years gained, false-positives, benign biopsies, and overdiagnosis were assessed by relative risk (RR) level (0.6, 0.7, 0.85, 1 [average risk]) and breast density category, for US women born in 1970.

Screening benefits decreased proportionally with decreasing risk and with lower breast density. False-positives, unnecessary biopsies, and the percentage overdiagnosis also varied substantially by breast density category; false-positives and unnecessary biopsies were highest in the heterogeneously dense category. For women with fatty or scattered fibroglandular breast density and a relative risk of no more than 0.85, the additional deaths averted and life-years gained were small with biennial vs triennial screening. For these groups, undergoing 4 additional screens (screening biennially [13 screens] vs triennially [9 screens]) averted no more than 1 additional breast cancer death and gained no more than 16 life-years and no more than 10 quality-adjusted life-years per 1000 women but resulted in up to 232 more false-positives per 1000 women.

New Zealand's response to the COVID-19 pandemic was one of the most restrictive lockdowns of any country, inevitably causing stress for many people. Because situations that increase stress and anxiety are associated with higher smoking prevalence, we examined self-reported smoking before and during the lockdown, and analyzed factors associated with reported changes in cigarette consumption.

We conducted an online panel survey of a demographically representative sample of 2010 adult New Zealanders during the COVID-19 lockdown; the final, weighted sample included 261 daily smokers and 71 weekly smokers. We measured psychological distress and anxiety, as well as situational factors, tobacco consumption, and demographic attributes.

Nearly half of daily smokers reported smoking more during than before the lockdown, on average, an increase of six cigarettes a day; increased daily cigarette consumption was associated with loneliness and isolation. Most weekly smokers reported either that their smoking during td smoking among current smokers or relapse among recent quitters. To gain insight into pericyte behaviors during vascular remodeling, we developed two complementary tissue explant models utilizing 'double reporter' animals with fluorescently-labeled pericytes and endothelial cells (via Ng2DsRed and Flk-1eGFP genes, respectively). Time-lapse confocal imaging of active vessel remodeling within adult connective tissues and embryonic skin revealed a subset of pericytes detaching and migrating away from the vessel wall. Vessel-associated pericytes displayed rapid filopodial sampling near sprouting endothelial cells that emerged from parent vessels to form nascent branches.
