Acupoints are considered a dynamic functional area, which can reflect the internal condition of the body. In pathological states, disease-related acupoints are believed to be activated, which is known as acupoint sensitization.

This study aimed to investigate the major manifestations of acupoint sensitization in patients with chronic low back pain (cLBP) to provide better understanding of acupoint sensitization phenomena in the context of cLBP.

This study was a matched-sample cross-sectional study 16 participants diagnosed with cLBP and 16 healthy controls matched in age, sex, and ethnicity were included. The following aspects of sensitization phenomena of targeted points were compared pressure pain threshold (PPT), skin temperature, surface electrical conductance, receptive field, and morphological change of skin.

PPT at points of interest were significantly lower in cLBP participants compared with healthy controls (P< 0.05); in addition, receptive field was found to be larger at left BL 23 in cLBP participants (P< 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in skin temperature, electrical conductance, or morphology between the two groups.

Reduced PPT at all detected points and enlarged receptive field at left BL 23 were found in cLBP participants. These two features appear key in defining acupoint sensitization in cLBP, and provide evidence for selecting and locating acupuncture points in future clinical studies.

Collagen production in fibroblasts is important for skin tissue repair. Cell-adhesive Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) peptides immobilized on scaffolds stimulate fibroblast collagen production, but RGD peptides in solution exhibit opposite effects. Transgenic silkworm technology enables the design of fusion positions for RGD peptides in silk fibroin molecules. The effect of RGD-fused silk fibroin in solution on fibroblast cell activity remains unclear.

To clarify the effects of RGD peptides fused to silk fibroin heavy (H)-chain or light (L)-chain on fibroblast proliferation and collagen production when RGD-fused silk fibroin proteins were added to the culture medium.

Silk fibers with RGD-fused H-chains (H-RGD) or L-chains (L-RGD) were degummed, dissolved, and dialyzed to prepare H-RGD or L-RGD aqueous solutions, respectively. These solutions were added to the fibroblast medium, and their proliferation and collagen production were quantified.

Both L- and H-RGD stimulated fibroblast proliferation at a similar level, even in a solution format, but L-RGD promoted fibroblast collagen production significantly, indicating the synergistic effect of the native H-chain and RGD-fused L-chain.

This study evaluates the efficiency of a pullulan/gelatin nanofiber scaffold loaded with retinoic acid (RA) and adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs) to modulate M1 to M2 anti-inflammatory transition. For this, scaffolds were fabricated by electrospinning, and crosslinked using ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE). Exposure of RA and/or ASCs to cultured macrophages have been shown to promote M1 to M2 transition. A compression load test was performed on two amputated human limbs under four conditions (1) normal (without any osteotomy), (2) open-wedge HTO (OWHTO), (3) OWHTO with FO, and (4) CWHTO. The contact area of the femoral and tibial cartilages and the medial and lateral joint space widths in each condition were evaluated using a motion capture system with computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data.

The contact area increased on the lateral side after OWHTO, which increased more on the lateral side with a concomitant decrease on the medial side in both subjects when FO was added to OWHTO. An increase in the medial joint space width and a decrease on the lateral side were seen in both OWHTO with FO and CWHTO.

The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of seeding densities on cell growth and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) on a calcium phosphate cements (CPCs) scaffold.

BMMSCs derived from minipigs were seeded onto a CPC scaffold at three densities [1million/mL (1M), 5 million/mL (5M) and 25million/mL 25M)], and cultured for osteogenic induction for 1, 4 and 8 days.

Well adhered and extended BMMSCs on the CPC scaffold showed significantly different proliferation rates within each seeding density group at different time points (P <0.05). The number of live cells per unit area in 1M, 5M and 25M increased by 3.5, 3.9 and 2.5 folds respectively. The expression of ALP peaked at 4 days post inoculation with the fold-change being 2.6 and 2.8 times higher in 5M and 25M respectively as compared to 1M. The expression levels of OC, Coll-1 and Runx-2 peaked at 8 days post inoculation.

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) are the precursor lesions of pancreatic cancers, requiring active surgical intervention during cancer development. However, the current criteria for predicting malignant IPMNs remain challenging and limited. Hence, this study aimed to assess the discriminatory performance of circulating cytokines, including TNF-α, IL-2R, IL-6, and IL-8, then build a novel predictive model to improve the diagnostic accuracy.

A total of 131 retrospective (from March 2016 to December 2019) and 53 prospective (from March 2020 to January 2021) patients who were histologically confirmed as IPMNs were consecutively collected and analyzed.

We used data from the National Health Interview Survey to examine the impact of the 2021 eligibility criteria on racial disparities by factors such as education, poverty, employment history, and insurance status. We also examined preventive care use and reasons for delaying medical care.

When comparing Black individuals and non-Hispanic White individuals, our analyses show significant differences in who would be eligible for LCS Those who do not have a high school diploma (28.7% vs. 17.0%, p=0.002), are in poverty (26.2% vs. 14.9%, p < 0.001), and have not worked in the past 12 months (66.5% vs. 53.9%, p=0.009). Further, our analyses also show that more Black individuals delayed medical care due to not having transportation (11.1% vs. 3.6%, p < 0.001) compared to non-Hispanic White individuals.
