There is a plethora of research on the association of parity and duration of lactation with bone mineral density (BMD) during and after pregnancy. However, there are no consensus conclusions on the impact of the duration of lactation on BMD.

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of pregnancy, and the duration of lactation on BMD during pregnancy, postpartum phase and 12 months post-delivery.

Apolipoprotein B (ApoB), apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), and ApoB/ApoA1 ratio are considered as predictors of CVD alongside with lipid profile. Evidence suggest that nutrients with antioxidant properties, especially vitamin E, are essential for a healthy cardiovascular system. The aim of present meta-analysis was to determine the effect alpha-tocopherol on ApoA1 and ApoB levels.

PubMed-Medline and SCOPUS databases and Google Scholar were searched up to July 2021. Random-effects model was employed to perform meta-analysis. In order to find heterogeneity sources, subgroup analysis was performed. Trim and fill analysis was performed in case of presence of publication bias. Quality assessment was performed using Cochrane Collaboration's tool.

Seven eligible studies, involving 1284 individuals were included. Mean age of participants ranged between 25.4 and 59 years. There was no significant effect of vitamin E supplementation on Apo A1 (SMD=0.22 IU/d; 95% CI-0.38, 0.28; P=0.481) and Apo B levels (SMD=-0.62 IU/d; 95% CI-1.94, 0.70; P=0.360).

There are some studies indicating the effects of probiotic-containing foods or supplements on viral diseases. We aimed to conduct a rapid review of probiotics with specific emphasis on their potential for early administration in patients at greater risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

We searched on PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Scopus and Web of Science up to February 2021 to identify interventional and observational studies documenting the effects of probiotics strains on interleukins, virus titers, and antibody production with a focus on probiotic-containing foods (PROSPERO Registration ID. CRD42020181453) RESULTS From a total of 163 records, 21 studies were classified into three domains based on the efficacy of probiotics on 1) the level of interleukins (n=7), 2) virus titers (n=2), and 3) interferon (IFN) and antibody production (n=12). The suppuration of pro-inflammatory interleukins and type I INF production seemed to be the main anti-viral effect of probiotics. Nine studies also indicated the beneficial effects of probiotics and fermented foods on viral diseases.

We assessed participants for criteria to diagnose myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).

The COVID-19 pandemic led to dramatic changes in the delivery of outpatient care. It is unclear whether increased use of telehealth affected outcomes for outpatients with heart failure.

In March 2020, a large Midwestern health care system, encompassing 16 cardiology clinics, 16 emergency departments, and 12 hospitals, initiated a telehealth-based model for outpatient care in the setting of the COVID-19 pandemic. A propensity-matched analysis was performed to compare outcomes between outpatients seen in-person in 2018 and 2019 and via telemedicine in2020.

Among 8,263 unique patients with heart failure with 15,421 clinic visits seen from March 15 to June 15, telehealth was employed in 88.5% of 2020 visits but in none in 2018 or 2019. Despite the pandemic, more outpatients were seen in 2020 (n=5,224) versus 2018 and 2019 (n=5,099 per year). Using propensity matching, 4,541 telehealth visits in 2020 were compared with 4,541 in-person visits in 2018 and 2019, and groups were well matched. Mortality was similar for telehealth and in-person visits at both 30days (0.8% vs 0.7%) and 90days (2.9% vs 2.4%). Likewise, there was no excess in hospital encounters or need for intensive care with telehealth visits.

A telehealth model for outpatients with heart failure allowed for distanced encounters without increases in subsequent acute care or mortality. Chloride is among the major electrolytes that play a unique role in fluid homeostasis and is associated with cardiorenal and neurohormonal systems. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs have a central role in cardiovascular medicine, encompassing a comprehensive framework able to holistically address various facets of cardiovascular disease. However, several obstacles to their optimal application have been reported. Over the years, the Portuguese Society of Cardiology has periodically conducted a national survey on the state of CR in Portugal.

This study reports the results of the 2019 survey on CR.

In December 2019 a voluntary questionnaire was sent to centers offering CR programs, consisting of several items concerning this intervention.

In 2019, 25 centers provided structured CR programs. A total of 2182 patients underwent phase II programs, representing an increase of 13% from the previous survey. Of these, 67.2% were referred due to ischemic heart disease, and 14.5% due to heart failure. Acute coronary syndromes (ACS) comprised 49.3% of referrals, leading to an estimated 9.3% CR coverage. A total of 606 patients participated in phase III progCR entry and maintenance, in order to improve the uptake of this pivotal intervention.
