The activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome causes the generation of caspase-1-mediated interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18 in microglia cells, where neuroinflammation is involved in the development and progression of AD. Thus, the NLRP3 inflammasome is likely to be a crucial therapeutic molecular target for AD via regulating neuroinflammation. In this review, we summarise the current knowledge on the role and regulatory mechanisms of the NLRP3 inflammasome in the pathogenic mechanisms of AD. We also focus on a series of potential therapeutic treatments targeting NLRP3 inflammasome for AD. Further clarification of the regulatory mechanisms of the NLRP3 inflammasome in AD may provide more useful clues to develop novel AD treatment strategies.The multi-lineage differentiation potential is one of the prominent mechanisms through which stem cells can repair damaged tissues. However, the mechanistic basis for this occurrence is not clear. Protein expression profiles were compared between dark-cutting and normal-pH beef using LC-MS/MS-based proteomics. Mass spectrometry analysis identified 1162 proteins in the proteomes of dark-cutting and normal-pH beef. Of these, 92 proteins had significant changes in protein abundance between dark-cutting versus normal-pH beef. In dark-cutting beef, 25 proteins were down-regulated, including enzymes related to glycogen metabolism, glucose homeostasis, denovo synthesis of adenosine monophosphate (AMP), and glycogen phosphorylase activity. In comparison, 27 proteins were up-regulated in dark-cutting beef related to oxidation-reduction processes, muscle contraction, and oxidative phosphorylation. Down-regulation of glycogenolytic proteins suggests decreased glycogen mobilization and utilization, while the up-regr characteristics. Our study shows that down-regulation of glycolgenolytic and IMP/AMP biosynthetic proteins results in elevated postmortem muscle pH in dark-cutting beef. Here, we investigate the variability of pvmsp-142, pvmsp-7E, and pvmsp-7F genes in 227 samples from the Brazilian Amazon (BA) and Rio de Janeiro Atlantic Forest (AF). pvmsp-142 has 63 polymorphisms - 57 nonsynonymous - generating a nucleotide diversity of π = 0.009 in AF, and π = 0.018 in BA. In pvmsp-7E, 134 polymorphisms - 103 nonsynonymous - generate the nucleotide diversity of π = 0.027 in AF, and π = 0.042 in BA. The pvmsp-7F has only two SNPs - A610G and A1054T -, with nucleotide diversity of π = 0.0004 in AF, and π = 0.0007 in BA. The haplotype diversity of pvmsp-142, pvmsp-7E, and pvmsp-7F genes is 0.997, 1.00, and 0.649, respectively. None of the pvmsp-142 or pvmsp-7E sequences are identical to the Salvador 1 strain's sequence. Conversely, most of pvmsp-7F sequences (94/48%) are identical to Sal-1. Workplace violence (WPV) against neurosurgeons is an understudied phenomenon, as previous research has focused on high-risk specialties like emergency medicine and psychiatry. We sought to fill in this gap in the literature by determining the frequency and type of WPV that neurosurgeons experience.

We sent a 26-question online survey to members of the American Association of Neurological Surgery via SurveyMonkey. This survey contained questions about WPV experienced over the previous two years, as well as questions about security measures and workplace protocols for WPV.

We received 107 responses of 4757 surveys disseminated, a response rate of 2.25%. Although small, this response rate is representative of historical survey response rates. In total, 53.3% of our sample reported WPV, and 4.7% reported at least one physical assault. In total, 50.5% of respondents were afraid of becoming a victim of WPV, and 40.4% felt less secure today than when they began practicing. A total of 17.8% of respondents reported that they had obtained a weapon or a concealed weapon permit due to a perceived threat. Tests for association revealed that early career and female neurosurgeons were significantly more likely to receive verbal threats than other neurosurgeons (P= 0.049 and 0.01, respectively).

The vertebral arteries are branches of the subclavian arteries supply blood to the posterior part of the encephalon, forming vertebrobasilar circulation. The vertebral artery usually ascends in the transverse foramina of the cervical vertebrae to reach the posterior cranial cavity by entering the magnum foramen. In this case, a 16-year-old male patient with casuistic anatomic variant of vertebral artery course is described. In this case report, left vertebral artery ascended outside the transverse foramina of cervical vertebrae C6-C3 and entered transverse foramen of axis.
