The aim of this study was to study the association between pregnancy-related anxiety in women, screened during the third trimester, and companionship during their hospitalization.

A case-control study was conducted in which 80 pregnant women over the age of 18 years, at 28 weeks and beyond, and without any diagnosed physical and/or health conditions took part. They were divided into 20 cases and 60 controls. Anxiety was measured using State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and specific variables were recorded. A descriptive bivariate analysis was performed to compare the chosen variables by means of the chi-squared, Kruskal-Wallis H and Mann-Whitney U tests.

Companionship was associated with a reduction in state and trait anxiety ( p = 0.038 in both dimensions) during hospitalization. Women of the Roma (Gitano) ethnicity developed the most anxiety ( p = 0.019) and primiparous women were at four times greater risk.

The absence of support from a person of trust during hospitalization, together with ethnicity and primiparity, contributed to increased symptoms of anxiety in pregnant women hospitalized during their third trimester. Therefore, involvement by their close social circle is essential for the prevention and/or reduction of anxiety in this population.

To assess the contribution of gerontotechnologies in nursing care to older adults with Parkinson's disease, aiming at the prevention of falls.

Convergent Assistance Research, through the development and evaluation of gerontechnologies focused on the prevention of falls in older adults with Parkinson's Disease. Clinical evaluation, interviews and workshops with older adults were carried out, as well as analysis and judgment of the materials developed by ten judges certified in gerontology by the Brazilian Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology.

Older adults need at least six years of study to understand the educational gerontotechnology development. The objectives related to the content, understanding of the text, illustration, presentation, motivation and cultural adaptation were achieved.

The educational gerontotechnology developed has relevant content, which can be used by older adults, family members and caregivers, to generate clarification of questions on the theme of fall prevention for older adults with Parkinson's Disease.

To analyze the professional insertion of registered nurses, taking into account the current structure of work in the health area and in the training of technical workers, from the perspective of training of professionals who will develop their activities in the Brazilian Unified Health System.

Quantitative, cross-sectional, and exploratory study, with descriptive and inferential statistical analysis using Fisher's exact test, carried out with 105 alumni of a nursing undergraduate course. An electronic questionnaire was applied.

The alumni worked as nurses (n = 59, 56.2%) or teachers (n = 18, 17.1%). The areas with the greatest absorption of alumni were hospitals (n = 37, 62.7%), the public sector (n = 35, 59.3%), and high-school level technical professional education (n = 16, 88.9%). Most participants were dissatisfied with their income (n = 56, 72.7%) and pointed out that the received values were incompatible with the work (n = 59, 76.6%).

The alumni faced problems in developing their professional activities, especially because of the current policies, which establish limits on the recognition of healthcare workers and education as a public asset. Progress in the recognition of the profession of registered nurse is necessary, given the relevance of these professionals in the health and education systems and the nature of the profession's practice of providing education and care, which have a transformative potential.

To assess the effect of a telephone intervention for self-care practices with the feet of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

This is a randomized clinical trial with two groups, control and intervention, carried out with 102 users with type 2 diabetes mellitus linked to four Basic Health Units in a municipality in the state of Piauí. selleck kinase inhibitor For the intervention group, six telephone interventions were carried out in three months; and the control group received only conventional follow-up. link2 For assessment, a form was applied before and after the intervention period.

In the intragroup analysis, when comparing self-care practices with the feet in the control group in the pre- and post-tests, there was no significant difference (p > 0.05); in the intervention group, there was an increase in self-care practices in 70% of the items, with p < 0.001 to 0.03. When analyzing the practice of intergroup self-care after the telephone intervention, the positive effect of the intervention was evidenced, obtaining statistically significant differences in 60% of the items, with a value of p < 0.001 to 0.031.

The telephone intervention promoted greater adherence to self-care practices with the feet of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry RBR-3pq5th.

To investigate the effect of the FOCUS-PDCA procedure on the self-care ability of patients undergoing colostomy for rectal cancer.

A nonrandomized controlled trial of 160 patients with rectal cancer undergoing colostomy. The control group received routine nursing intervention, and the observation group received the FOCUS-PDCA procedure. link3 The self-care ability of the two groups was investigated 1 week and 1 month after surgery, and a comparative analysis was made between the groups.

One week after surgery, the self-care ability of rectal cancer patients with colostomy increased from 39.09 points before implementation of the FOCUS-PDCA procedure to 60.15 points after implementation; an increase of 21.06%. One month after surgery, the self-care ability increased from 61.50 points to 83.13 points after implementation of the FOCUS-PDCA procedure; an increase of 21.63%.

Application of the FOCUS-PDCA procedure improved the self-care ability of rectal cancer patients undergoing colostomy, improved their physical and mental health, reduced colostomy complications, and improved their quality of life. The results suggest that it is worth applying FOCUS-PDCA more widely.

To identify the main challenges faced by children with type 1 diabetes mellitus and describe their coping strategies.

Qualitative study conducted with a semi-structured interview with children aged 8 to 11 with type 1 diabetes mellitus diagnosis who received care in the outpatient clinic of a university hospital in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The results have been analyzed and categorized as per thematic analysis.

Five children have participated. The reports have emerged from the systematization of the qualitative data, in a process of apprehending meaning from statements of children and adolescents, which led to the category "Living with diabetes", including two subcategories "Challenges to disease coping" and "Family participation and support in the disease process".

The process of disease coping is observed to occur differently for each child. However, family participation and support, as well as communication with health professionals, are fundamental in this process.

To implement the nursing process, based on the Neuman Systems Model and the International Classification of Nursing Practice terminology, in the care of an adolescent who underwent corrective surgery for juvenile idiopathic scoliosis.

This is a qualitative study of the type of single case, with triangulation of data collection techniques (formal clinical interview, notes in a field diary and medical record information), developed with a 17-year-old adolescent and indication for corrective surgery. The empirical materials generated with the interviews carried out at admission and at discharge, observation and medical record information were treated with categorical content analysis.

The categories of personal condition, anxiety, selfconcept, meaningful people, facilitating health resources, school, free time and leisure were recurrent. Diagnoses were defined with a focus on Anxiety, Knowledge on pain management (control) and Willingness (or readiness) to learn, associating them with the respective nursing interventions.

The Model contributed to assess and recognize surgery stressors for the adolescent and to theoretically base the nursing process. The classification allowed systematizing nursing care records, elements of clinical practice, unifying vocabulary and codes.

To evaluate the construct validity and internal consistency of the Brazilian version of Leisure Attitude Measurement for the elderly.

Methodological study with a quantitative approach. The data were collected for three months through domiciliary visits to a random and representative sample of 384 elders. The internal consistency was measured through Cronbach alpha coefficient. Construct validity was evaluated through exploratory factor analysis. Factor extraction was conducted per principal components, following the Kaiser criterion, with rotation through Varimax solution.

The participants' mean age was 70,9 and they were mostly women, married, living with relatives, with one to four years of education, and with an income of up to one minimum wage. The final model of the instrument has conserved three factors, under the parsimony criterion, explaining 50% of data variance, with a total of 27 items distributed across the cognitive, affective, and behavioral domains, with an overall Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0.
