Impairment of moment-to-moment adjustment of regional cerebral blood flow via neurovascular coupling (NVC) importantly contributes to VCI. Previous studies established a causal link between circulating IGF-1 deficiency and neurovascular dysfunction. Release of vasodilator mediators from activated astrocytes plays a key role in NVC. To determine the impact of impaired IGF-1 signaling on astrocytic function, astrocyte-mediated NVC responses were studied in a novel mouse model of astrocyte-specific knockout of IGF1R (GFAP-CreERT2/Igf1rf/f) and accelerated neurovascular aging. We found that mice with disrupted astrocytic IGF1R signaling exhibit impaired NVC responses, decreased stimulated release of the vasodilator gliotransmitter epoxy-eicosatrienoic acids (EETs), and upregulation of soluble epoxy hydrolase (sEH), which metabolizes and inactivates EETs. Collectively, our findings provide additional evidence that IGF-1 promotes astrocyte health and maintains normal NVC, protecting cognitive health.A polyphosphate-producing bacterium, YG09T, was isolated from the rhizosphere of Salvia miltiorrhiza. Its colonies were 2.0-3.0 mm in diameter, smooth, circular, convex and yellow after growth on R2A at 28 °C for 72 h, with aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, non-motile and rod-shaped bacteria. The strain was found to grow at 10-40 °C (optimum 37 °C), pH 5.5-8.0 (optimum 6.0), with 0-0.6% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0). Chemotaxonomic analysis showed menaquinone-7 as the only quinone present; C15 1 iso G, C15 1 iso, C16 0, C16 0 3OH, C17 0 iso 3OH, summed feature 3 (C161 ω7c and/or C161 ω6c) as the major fatty acids (> 5%), and phosphatidylethanolamine, three unidentified phospholipids, four unidentified polar lipids, three unidentified aminolipids, and one unidentified amino phospholipid as the polar lipids. The DNA G + C content was 44.6 mol%. The 16S rRNA gene sequences of the isolate showed highest similarities to Panacibacter ginsenosidivorans Gsoil 1550T (93.6%), Filimonas endophytica SR2-06T (93.4%), Parasegetibacter terrae SGM2-10T (92.8%), and Arvibacter flaviflagrans C-1-16T (92.7%), within the family Chitinophagaceae of the phylum Bacteroidetes. The ANI values between strain YG09T and Panacibacter ginsenosidivoran Gsoil 1550T, Filimonas endophytica SR2-06T and Filimonas lacunae YT21T were 69.4, 68.3 and 68.7%, respectively. Based on phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic analyses, strain YG09T represents a novel genus in the family Chitinophagaceae, for which the name Foetidibacter luteolus gen. sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is Foetidibacter luteolus YG09T (= MCCC 1K04042T = KCTC 72595T).

We aimed to assess whether high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol modifies the association between adiponectin and incident cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and vice versa.

At baseline, 106 T2DM participants with various degrees of renal function were enrolled and followed up over a period of 7years with fatal/nonfatal CV events as outcome.

During the follow-up, 49 participants experienced incident CV events (28 fatal, 21 nonfatal). On univariate Fine and Gray sub-hazard models, HDL cholesterol was a strong modifier of the association between adiponectin and CV outcomes both on crude (P = 0.011) and gender- and eGFR-adjusted models (P = 0.010). The protective effect for CV events portended by a fixed increase in adiponectin (1μg/ml) was progressively higher across increasing values of HDL cholesterol. Moreover, plasma adiponectin also modified the protective effect of HDL on CV outcomes both in crude and multivariate analyses. We found a mutual effect modification between adiponectin and HDL as risk factors of CV events in participants with T2DM.

Our results are coherent with the hypothesis that HDL cholesterol might play a pivotal role in the interpretation of the association between adiponectin and the risk of adverse CV outcomes in this population.

This paper was intended to describe the characteristics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients with known chronic kidney disease (CKD) history.

Clinical information of 20 COVID-19 pneumonia patients with CKD history diagnosed between January 20th and March 1st, 2020 were collected in Tongji Hospital, Wuhan. We listed the clinical baseline data, laboratory findings, chest computed tomography (CT) changes and processed a short period of follow-up of these 20 patients.

Based on the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) on admission, 6 patients were classified as stage 2 of CKD, 5 were as 3a, 2 were as 3b, 3 were as 4 and 4 were as 5, respectively. COVID-19 patients with CKD history were elder and hypertension was the most common comorbidity. Cough and fever accounted for more than 80% of the infectious cases. Lymphopenia, increased D-dimer and elevated infectious indications such as hypersensitive C response protein (hsCRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) were also common among these patients. Ground-glass opacity (GGO) and consolidation were the major manifestations in CT scans. 4 patients died and 7 patients underwent acute kidney injury (AKI) during observation. Among 16 discharged patients, 12 were with stable renal function and 4 had deteriorating renal function compared with that of admission.

Studies on the association of microalbuminuria with adverse outcomes in patients with hypertension remain controversial. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the predictive value of microalbuminuria in hypertensive patients.

PubMed and Embase databases were comprehensively searched for studies that published from their inceptions to July 10, 2020. Observational studies reporting the association of microalbuminuria (defined as urinary albumin excretion 30 and 300mg/24h urine or albumin/creatinine ratio 30-300mg/g from a spot urine or equivalent value) with all-cause mortality or major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in hypertensive patients were selected.

Nine studies with a total of 19,893 hypertensive patients were included. When compared with those without microalbuminuria, hypertensive patients with microalbuminuria had an increased risk of all-cause mortality (risk ratio [RR] 1.68; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.46-1.93) and MACEs (RR 1.40; 95% CI 1.22-1.62), respectively. Gender-specific analysis indicated that microalbuminuria was significantly associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality (RR 1.61; 95% CI 1.17-2.21) in men but not in women (RR 1.18; 95% CI 0.78-1.80).

This meta-analysis suggests that microalbuminuria is independently associated with higher risk of MACEs and all-cause mortality in hypertensive patients. Determination of microalbuminuria has potential to improve the risk classification of hypertension.

Quality of life (QOL) and physical activity (PA) is reduced in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The aim was to investigate the impact of marital status and educational level on QOL and PA in patients with CKD including dialysis treatment.

This cross-sectional study included ambulatory adult patients undergoing dialysis or CKD stage 4-5. Data for marital status, educational level and PA were obtained using the Danish health and Morbidity Survey. QOL was assessed using the Physical Component Scale and the Mental Component Scale scores from the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Instrument.

Five hundred twelve participants were included 316 (62%) were married/had a permanent partner, 119 (23%) had a low level of education, 327 (67%) were physically active. The presented inequality in QOL should be considered in communications, care and treatments in clinical practice.This study examined the effects of dietary Spirulina platensis (SP) at levels of 0, 5, and 10 g.kg-1 and selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) at 0, 0.1, and 0.2 mg.kg-1, individually and in combination, on heat-stressed broiler chickens for 5 weeks. Four hundred fifty one-day-old Ross-308 chicks were allocated to 9 dietary groups with 5 replicates (10 chicks each). The control diet was consisted of corn-soybean-based basal diet. The obtained results displayed a significant increase in final body weight (p = 0.005) and weight gain during the periods from 22 to 35 days (p = 0.002) and 1 to 35 days (p = 0.005) in birds fed supplemented diets compared to those fed control diet, with the highest being in birds fed with both 10 g SP and 0.1 mg SeNPs. Feed conversion ratio was also improved in birds fed supplemented compared to control group. Dietary supplements significantly improved carcass dressing (p less then 0.001), carcass yield (p = 0.001) percentages, and blood lipid profile. Blood triiodothyronine was higher (p = 0.005) with all treated diets except that contain 5 g SP compared to the control, with the highest being in birds fed diet contains 5 g SP + 0.2 mg SeNPs. Immunoglobulin subclasses IgG, IgM, and IgA were higher in birds fed supplemented diets compared to the control group. Antibody titers to Newcastle disease, avian influenza, and infectious bursal disease were numerically increased with dietary supplementation compared to the control group. Dietary treatments increased (p less then 0.001) glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels, except diet contains 5 g SP for SOD level and decreased (p less then 0.001) malondialdehyde level. It is concluded that dietary inclusion of SP and SeNPs, particularly their combination at levels 5 g SP plus 0.2 mg SeNPs kg-1 and 10 g SP plus 0.1 mg SeNPs kg-1, improved growth performance, carcass yield, immunity, and antioxidant capacity of heat-stressed broilers.
