an/African American populations. NUDT15*3 increases aggregation 'hot spot' and induces unfavourable torsion in the protein. NUDT15*5 and TPMT*3C destabilize the respective proteins. TPMT*3A, TPMT*3B and TPMT*3C are associated with a lower binding affinity towards 6-mercaptopurine.Seaweeds rich in polysaccharides are considered commercially important because of their wide range of industrial applications. In this study, the red seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii was used for bioplastic film production. Plasticizer polyethylene glycol (PEG) to seaweed biomass ratio was optimized and a thin bioplastic film with higher tensile strength was produced. The films obtained were characterized by its thickness, tensile strength, colour (L, a, b), elongation at break (EAB), water vapour transmission rate (WVTR) and oxygen transmission rate (OTR). TG-DSC, AFM, SEM and FTIR spectroscopy analysis were performed to assess the composition, phase transitions and chemical reaction capabilities of the film. The bioplastic film obtained from 4% K. alvarezii (whole seaweed) showed better physical and mechanical properties, whereas TG-DSC, FTIR and AFM showed similar kind of bioplastic properties in all the concentrations. Decrease in OTR was observed against decreasing wall thickness of the film. The present study suggests that the seaweed would be a potential alternate source for bioplastic production which may reduce the usage of non-degradable plastics.Environmental objects (surface and groundwater, soil, bottom sediments, wastewater) are reservoirs in which large-scale multidirectional exchange of determinants of antibiotic resistance between clinical strains and natural bacteria takes place. The review discusses the results of studies on antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARG) isolated from environmental objects (water, soil, sewage, permafrost) of the Russian Federation. Despite the relevance of the topic, the number of available publications examining the resistomes of Russian water bodies and soils is small. The most studied environmental objects are surface waters (rivers, lakes), permafrost deposits. Soil resistomes are less studied. Data on ARG and ARB in wastewater are the least covered in publications. In most of the studies, antibiotic resistance of isolated pure bacterial cultures was determined phenotypically. A significant number of publications are devoted to the resistance of natural isolates of Vibrio cholerae, since the lower reaches of the Volga and Don rivers are endemic to cholera. Molecular genetic methods were used in a small number of studies. selleck inhibitor Geographically, the south of the European part of Russia is the most studied. There are also publications on the distribution of ARG in water bodies of Siberia and the Russian Far East. There are practically no publications on such developed regions of Russia as the center and northwest of the European part of Russia. The territory of the country is very large, anthropogenic and natural factors in its various regions vary significantly; therefore, it seems interesting to combine all available data in one work.Disposal of industrial waste is of great concern because it releases toxic metals resulting into the degradation of environments and consequently causes health effects on humans. The present study was carried out with the objectives of identifying the possible source and migration of contaminants in the surface water and groundwater and the associated health risks in the industrial region of Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, India. A total of 22 water samples were collected and analysed for the concentration of major ions and trace elements. Chemical speciation of chromium and lead in surface and groundwater was calculated using the geochemical code, PHREEQC. The concentration of total dissolved solids, chromium and lead was high in the surface water than groundwater in this region. The chromium in most of the sampled water is dominated with Cr(OH)2+ and Cr(OH)3 species and the dominant species of lead was PbCO3. The major source of contamination is the waste dumped in this region and also the improper disposal of effluents from the small-scale industries in this region. Use of groundwater with the present level of chromium and lead in this region will cause several health effects through oral and dermal pathways. Hence, stringent monitoring of quality of water sources of this region, enforcement of regulation of the disposal of wastes from the industries, recover and treat the dumped solid waste are very much necessary to prevent the spread of contamination.L-Threonine and three kinds of conductive polymers were applied for anode modification in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) for decolorization of Congo red with simultaneous electricity generation. The description of modified anodes with FTIR, surface contact angle, and CV analysis showed that the anode surface was successfully grafted with functional groups, with improving wettability, as well as the increasing specific surface area and electrochemical activity. For L-threonine modification, the highest decolorization rate of 97% of the MFC, and meanwhile, the maximum current density of 155.8 mA/m2, was obtained at the modified concentration of 400 mg/L. For conductive polymer modifications, the poly (aniline-1,8-diaminonaphthalene) (short for PANDAN) owned the highest performance, with the current density 185 mA/m2, and the decolorization rate was 97%. Compared with L-threonine, the modifications by conductive polymers were more suitable for MFC decolorization due to their functional groups and unique conductivity. In addition, high-throughput sequencing analysis was conducted for the conductive polymers modified anodes to reveal their bioelectrochemical mechanisms. For an economy to excel in growth, there is usually a trade-off between financial development and environment deterioration. For a country like Singapore, which has shown a radical growth and is known for its population density, it is important to explore the role of green technology innovation in the pursuit of economic excellence with the least possible cost to the environment. By employing the novel bootstrap autoregressive-distributed lag (BARDL) technique using a time series data from 1990 to 2018, the results reported a positive and significant relationship of green technology innovation with economic growth and negative and significant relationship with carbon emissions in both long run and short run. Based on the findings, several managerial implications were discussed, whereas based on the limitations, directions for future researchers are also given. In the recent years, microplastics have attracted much attention as new emerging environmental pollutants. Previously, several studies were performed to understand the source and fate of microplastics in the environment, organisms, and food webs. To track microplastics and improve their legibility, labeling them is a very effective method during laboratory experiments. This study presents an effective Rhodamine B dye (RhB) staining method for microplastics. The method is crucial for the visual observation of white or transparent plastics by dyeing them in purple or pink, as well as makes the microplastics to fluoresce under common microscope fluorescence filter ranges. Five types of microplastic polymers, namely polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, and polyurethane were used as the test materials. The efficiencies of ethanol, acetone, and distilled water as possible solvents for dissolving RhB were investigated. Next, the fluorescence stability in various conditions was assessed. The results indicated that ethanol was the most appropriate solvent in dissolving RhB used in staining the microplastics. RhB was fluorescently stable under varying conditions (light and gut fluid) or different solutions (KOH, nitric acid, and saturated NaCl). Additionally, RhB staining exhibited an insignificant effect on the Raman spectra of the microplastics. link2 Our proposed method is simple and robust and helps to visualize the different types of microplastic polymers tested in laboratory experiments, particularly the transparent, white, and small size microplastics.Melanophryniscus admirabilis is a frog endemic to the southern Atlantic Forest (Brazil), with restricted distribution and considered as critically endangered. The aim of this study was to evaluate possible alterations in biomarkers of metabolism (glycogen, proteins, and uric acid) and oxidative balance (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione S-transferase, and lipoperoxidation) of tadpoles of Melanophryniscus admirabilis exposed to commercial herbicide formulations containing sulfentrazone (Boral® 500 SC 130 and 980 μg a.i./L) and glyphosate (Roundup® Original 234 and 2340 μg a.i./L). Mortality was not observed in any of the groups studied. Our results show that a 96-h exposure to the herbicides decreased glycogen levels, indicating increased energy demand for xenobiotic metabolism. Protein levels increased in the Boral group but decreased in the higher concentration of Roundup, and uric acid levels did not change significantly between the experimental groups. Lipoperoxidation decreased in the Boral group and in the higher concentration of Roundup. Decreased levels of superoxide dismutase in both treatments and of catalase in the lowest concentration of the herbicides were observed. Glutathione S-transferase activity increased in the Roundup group; this enzyme seems to be crucial in the metabolization of the herbicides and in the survival of the tadpoles. Our results suggest that M. admirabilis has a high antioxidant capacity, which guaranteed the survival of tadpoles. Nevertheless, exposure to pesticides could impose a serious risk to this species, especially considering its restricted distribution, habitat specificity, and high physiological demand to metabolize xenobiotics. The energy potential of high-organic loaded agro-industrial effluents receiving biological treatment is often neglected, particularly in emergent regions, because of different technical and regulatory drawbacks. In addition, small alternative bioenergy sources are forced to compete disadvantageously with conventional energy supply, hindering their more extended exploitation. Thus, smart strategies to prove the environmental/economic potential of biogas and sludge produced in biological wastewater treatment systems (Bio-WWTs) are required to promote them as truly sustainable energy sources. link3 In this view, the present study depicts a refined methodological framework for a more appropriate appraisal of Bio-WWTs promoting bioenergy recovery. Life cycle assessment (LCA) and emergy analysis (EmA) methods were merged around the statement of some identified and stated Principle-Criteria of Sustainability (PCS) for this kind of "water-energy nexus." As a result, a novel set of four single sustainability development indicators (SDIs) and one aggregated SDI were obtained to address sustainable conditions for valorization of bio-energy from agro-industrial Bio-WWTs. These indicators were made up of an environmental term coming from an LCA based on a system expansion approach as well as a second or "eco-economic" term obtained by means of EmA. This work introduces and shapes the "additionality" notion as an expression of overall sustainability and uses novel sustainability charts to interpret the obtained SDIs and their shifting or changes for different Bio-WWTs' life cycle scenarios. The "proof of concept" of this methodology is discussed along the obtained results for two case studies in Colombia.
