strain RY11902) in the case of bacterial monoculture, whereas the decolorization percentage for a mixed culture of four bacteria varied from 58% (C.I. Reactive Blue 19) to 94% (C.I. Reactive Black 1). These findings confer the possibility of using these bacteria for the biological decolorization of dyeing wastewater. The widely used techniques for analyzing the quality of powdered food products focus on targeted detection with a low-throughput screening of samples. Owing to potentially significant health threats and large-scale adulterations, food regulatory agencies and industries require rapid and non-destructive analytical techniques for the detection of unexpected compounds present in products. Accordingly, shortwave-infrared hyperspectral imaging (SWIR-HSI) for high throughput authenticity analysis of almond powder was investigated in this study. Two different varieties of almond powder, adulterated with apricot and peanut powder at different concentrations, were imaged using the SWIR-HSI system. A one-class classifier technique, known as data-driven soft independent modeling of class analogy (DD-SIMCA), was used on collected data sets of pure and adulterated samples. A partial least square regression (PLSR) model was further developed to predict adulterant concentrations in almond powder. Classification results from DD-SIMCA yielded 100% sensitivity and 89-100% specificity for different validation sets of adulterated samples. The results obtained from the PLSR analysis yielded a high determination coefficient (R2) and low error values ( less then 1%) for each variety of almond powder adulterated with apricot; however, a relatively higher error rates of 2.5% and 4.4% for the two varieties of almond powder adulterated with peanut powder, which indicates the performance of quantitative analysis model could vary with sample condition, such as variety, originality, etc. PLSR-based concentration mapped images visually characterized the adulterant (apricot) concentration in the almond powder. These results demonstrate that the SWIR-HSI technique combined with the one-class classifier DD-SIMCA can be used effectively for a high-throughput quality screening of almond powder regarding potential adulteration.Resistance to carbapenems due to carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) is an increasing threat to human health worldwide. In recent years, CPE could be found only sporadically from livestock, but concern rose that livestock might become a reservoir for CPE. In 2019, the first GES carbapenemase-producing Escherichia coli from livestock was detected within the German national monitoring on antimicrobial resistance. The isolate was obtained from pig feces and was phenotypically resistant to meropenem and ertapenem. The isolate harbored three successive blaGES genes encoding for GES-1, GES-5 and GES-5B in an incomplete class-I integron on a 12 kb plasmid (pEC19-AB02908; Acc. No. Isoxazole 9 cell line MT955355). The strain further encoded for virulence-associated genes typical for uropathogenic E. coli, which might hint at an increased pathogenic potential. The isolate produced the third carbapenemase detected from German livestock. The finding underlines the importance CPE monitoring and detailed characterization of new isolates. The strategic design of organizations in an environment where complexity is constantly increasing, as in the cyber-physical systems typical of Industry 4.0, is a process full of uncertainties. Leaders are forced to make decisions that affect other organizational units without being sure that their decisions are the right ones. Previously to this work, genetic algorithms were able to calculate the state of alignment of industrial processes that were measured through certain key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure that the leaders of the Industry 4.0 make decisions that are aligned with the strategic objectives of the organization. However, the computational cost of these algorithms increases exponentially with the number of KPIs. That is why this work makes use of the principles of quantum computing to present the strategic design of organizations from a novel point of view Quantum Strategic Organizational Design (QSOD). The effectiveness of the application of these principles is shown with a real case study, in which the computing time is reduced from hundreds of hours to seconds. This has very powerful practical applications for industry leaders, since, with this new approach, they can potentially allow a better understanding of the complex processes underlying the strategic design of organizations and, above all, make decisions in real-time.The impact of adjusted treatment on clinical outcomes in patients with severe obesity is unclear. This study included adults with severe obesity admitted for bloodstream infections between 2005 and 2015. The patients were grouped according to the percentage of the appropriateness of the dosage of their antimicrobial treatment 80-100% = good, 20-79% = moderate, and 0-19% = poor. The association between antimicrobial adjustment and a composite of unfavourable outcomes [intensive care unit stay ≥72 h, duration of sepsis >3 days, length of stay ≥7 days or all-cause 30-day mortality] was assessed using logistic regression. Of 110 included episodes, the adjustment was rated good in 47 (43%) episodes, moderate in 31 (28%), and poor in 32 (29%). link2 Older age, Pitt bacteremia score ≥2, sepsis on day 1, and infection site were independent risk factors for unfavourable outcomes. The level of appropriateness was not associated with unfavourable outcomes. The number of antimicrobials, consultation with an infectious disease specialist, blood urea nitrogen 7-10.9 mmol/L, and hemodialysis were significantly associated with adjusted antimicrobial dosing. While the severity of the infection had a substantial impact on the measured outcomes, we did not find an association between dosing optimization and better outcomes. The goal of the Special Issue "Brittle Materials in Mechanical Extremes" was to spark a discussion of the analogies and the differences between different brittle materials, such as, for instance, ceramics and concrete. Indeed, the contributions to the Issue spanned from construction materials (asphalt and concrete) to structural ceramics, reaching as far as ice. The data shown in the issue were obtained by advanced microstructural techniques (microscopy, 3D imaging, etc.) and linked to mechanical properties (and their changes as a function of aging, composition, etc.). The description of the mechanical behavior of brittle materials under operational loads, for instance, concrete and ceramics under very high temperatures, offered an unconventional viewpoint on the behavior of brittle materials. This is not at all exhaustive, but a way to pave the road for intriguing and enriching comparisons. We report the facile and economic preparation of two-dimensional (2D) and 0D MoSe2 nanostructures based on systematic and non-toxic top-down strategies. We demonstrate the intrinsic peroxidase-like activity of these MoSe2 nanostructures. The catalytic processes begin with facilitated decomposition of H2O2 by using MoSe2 nanostructures as peroxidase mimetics. In turn, a large amount of generated radicals oxidizes 3,3,5,5-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to produce a visible color reaction. The enzymatic kinetics of our MoSe2 nanostructures complies with typical Michaelis-Menten theory. Catalytic kinetics study reveals a ping-pong mechanism. Moreover, the primary radical responsible for the oxidation of TMB was identified to be Ȯ2- by active species-trapping experiments. Based on the peroxidase mimicking property, we developed a new colorimetric method for H2O2 detection by using 2D and 0D MoSe2 nanostructures. It is shown that the colorimetric sensing capability of our MoSe2 catalysts is comparable to other 2D materials-based colorimetric platforms. For instance, the linear range of H2O2 detection is between 10 and 250 μM by using 2D functionalized MoSe2 nanosheets as an artificial enzyme. Our work develops a systematic approach to use 2D materials to construct novel enzyme-free mimetic for a visual assay of H2O2, which has promising prospects in medical diagnosis and food security monitoring. This study investigated Allium subhirsutum L. (AS) anticancer and antioxidant effects and inhibition of tumor angiogenesis in a murine model of skeletal metastases due to inoculation of Walker 256/B cells. Phytochemical composition of AS extract (ASE) was studied by High Resolution-Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (HR-LCMS). Total phenolic and flavonoid contents (TPC and TFC) were determined. In vitro, the antioxidant properties were evaluated by reducing power and antiradical activity against DPPH. Cancer cells' proliferation, apoptosis, metastatic development and angiogenesis were evaluated using Walker 256/B and MatLyLu cells. The p-coumaric acid was the major phenolic acid (1700 µg/g extract). ASE showed high levels of TPC and TFC and proved potent antioxidant effects. ASE inhibited Walker 256/B and MatLyLu cells' proliferation (Half-maximal inhibitory concentration IC50 ≃ 150 µg/mL) and induced apoptosis. In silico and in vivo assays confirmed these findings. ASE effectively acts as a chemo-preventive compound, induces apoptosis and attenuates angiogenesis and osteolytic metastases due to Walker 256/B malignant cells. In this paper, we developed a battery-free system that can be used to estimate food pH level and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration in a food package from headspace pressure measurement. While being stored, food quality degrades gradually as a function of time and storage conditions. A food monitoring system is, therefore, essential to prevent the detrimental problems of food waste and eating spoilt food. Since conventional works that invasively measure food pH level and CO2 concentration in food packages have shown several disadvantages in terms of power consumption, system size, cost, and reliability, our study proposes a system utilizing package headspace pressure to accurately and noninvasively extract food pH level and CO2 concentration, which reflection food quality. To read pressure data in the food container, a 2.5 cm × 2.5 cm smart sensor tag was designed and integrated with near-field communication (NFC)-based energy harvesting technology for battery-free operation. To validate the reliability of the proposed extraction method, various experiments were conducted with different foods, such as pork, chicken, and fish, in two storage environments. The experimental results show that the designed system can operate in a fully passive mode to communicate with an NFC-enabled smartphone. High correlation coefficients of the headspace pressure with the food pH level and the headspace CO2 concentration were observed in all experiments, demonstrating the ability of the proposed system to estimate food pH level and CO2 concentration with high accuracy. A linear regression model was then trained to linearly fit the sensor data. link3 To display the estimated results, we also developed an Android mobile application with an easy-to-use interface.Iridoschisis is a rare condition defined as a separation of the anterior iris stroma from the posterior stroma and muscle layers. In this paper, we review current data about the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical characteristics and differential diagnoses of this condition and discuss the specificity of surgical treatment of concomitant ocular diseases in iridoschisis patients. Iridoschisis may pose a challenge for both an ophthalmologist in an outpatient setting and an ophthalmic surgeon. Glaucoma, primarily angle-closure glaucoma, is the most often described condition concomitant to iridoschisis. Other ocular abnormalities found relatively often in iridoschisis patients include cataract, lens subluxation and corneal abnormalities. Special attention has been paid to potential complications of cataract surgery and prevention thereof. Beside addressing the practical aspects, we point to discrepancies and suggest topics for further investigation.
