Kayviruses are polyvalent broad host range staphylococcal phages with a potential to combat staphylococcal infections. However, the implementation of rational phage therapy in medicine requires a thorough understanding of the interactions between bacteriophages and pathogens at omics level. To evaluate the effect of a phage used in therapy on its host bacterium, we performed differential transcriptomic analysis by RNA-Seq from bacteriophage K of genus Kayvirus infecting two Staphylococcus aureus strains, prophage-less strain SH1000 and quadruple lysogenic strain Newman. The temporal transcriptional profile of phage K was comparable in both strains except for a few loci encoding hypothetical proteins. Stranded sequencing revealed transcription of phage noncoding RNAs that may play a role in the regulation of phage and host gene expression. The transcriptional response of S. aureus to phage K infection resembles a general stress response with differential expression of genes involved in a DNA damage response. Moreover, Klebsiella clonal lineages that successfully combine resistance and hypervirulence have increasingly occurred during the last years. However, the underlying mechanisms of counteracting fitness costs that accompany antibiotic resistance acquisition remain largely unexplored. The purpose of this study was to capture perspectives of healthcare professionals only (including clinicians, administration and management) on the use of VC and explore lessons learnt from the national implementation process.Methodology Using an online, mixed methods retrospective survey capturing descriptive and narrative data.Results A total of 1256 NHS healthcare professionals shared their VC experience. Overall, responses were positive, and healthcare professionals expressed optimistic views regarding the use, value and benefit of VC, even when faced with challenges on occasions.Conclusions A lesson learnt, is that difference occurs in innovation, even in a small country like Wales, yet it is not necessarily a negative outcome, but rather, respecting and incorporating difference, can improve long-term sustainability.Menopausal transition and post-menopause constitute windows of increased vulnerability to depression. The aim of our study was to translate and validate the electronic version of the Meno-D among Greek post-menopausal women. Translation and back-translation were performed by an expert group, while face validity was assessed by five experts. Along with the Beck Depression Inventory-II, the Meno-D scale was distributed online to 502 post-menopausal women. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed to investigate construct validity and both convergent and discriminant validity were evaluated. The data analysis was performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences and AMOS. The 5-factor model of Meno-D achieved adequate levels of goodness-of-fit indices, scoring lower values in discriminant validity examined with heterotrait-monotrait ratio and composite reliability. Since malnutrition has become an important factor determining the final clinical outcomes of CKD, soy products, high-quality plant-based sources of proteins and other nutrients, are recommended by many physicians for CKD patients. However, it has been reported that adherence to this dietary advice among those patients is low. In order to dissect the potential reasons behind this phenomenon and to subsequently develop target intervention to improve the current situation, we designed and conducted a self-administered questionnaire survey in 3 medical centers in China. Total 570 patients responded to our survey and data analysis reveals that 85.6% of the respondents were aware of the necessaries of high-quality protein diets for CKD patients, but only 41.9% of patients knew that soy foods provide high-quality proteins needed. In contrast, up to 90.4% of patients were affected by the notion that patients with CKD should avoid soy products. Besides, comparing with other groups, higher percentage of patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis recognized soy products as foods with high-quality proteins, however, as many as 68.8% of them did not consume any soy foods due to the concerns of adverse effects on the progress of CKD. Our data suggest that a significant portion of patients with CKD do not consume soy foods, which could be mainly resulted from their misconception towards soy products delivered by medical workers or social media. Evidence-based updated education of patients and medical workers on soy foods would be a necessary strategy for improving nutrition status of CKD patients and their clinical outcomes.

mice were used to establish cerebral I/R models using the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) surgery to determine CBX7 levels at different time points after MCAO injury. For all mice, neurological behavior, infarct size, water content, and oxidative stress-related indicators were determined, and transferase (TdT)-mediated dUTP-biotin nick-end labeling (terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT)-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL)) staining method was employed to observe cell apoptosis, while Western blot to measure the expression of CBX7 and Nrf/HO-1 pathway-related proteins.

At 6h, 12h, 24h, 3days, and 7days after mice with MCAO, CBX7 expression was gradually up-regulated and the peak level was reached at 24h. Mice in the WT + MCAO group had increased infarct size, with significant increases in the modified neurological severity scores and water content in the brain, as well as the quantity of TUNEL-positive cells. For the oxidative stress-indicators, an increase was seen in the content of MDA (malondial dehyde), but the activity of SOD (superoxide dismutase) and content of GSH-PX (glutathione peroxidase) and CAT (catalase) were decreased; meanwhile, the protein expression of CBX7, HO-1, and nuclear Nrf2 was up-regulated, while the cytoplasmic Nrf2 was down-regulated. Women living with HIV have a significantly increased risk of cervical cancer. The immune response of the host is crucial to determine the course of the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and cytokines play an important role modulating viral multiplication and concentrating the immune response in the Th1 or Th2 pattern. The aim of this study is to evaluate the available evidence on the concentration of genital cytokines and their role in HPV infection in HIV-infected women. A systematic search of the literature was performed using MEDLINE by PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, LILACS, Scopus, Science direct, and Web of Science databases on November, 2020, in which the following clusters of terms were applied HIV infection, HPV infection, and cytokine. Initially, 728 articles were selected, but only 17 were eligible for full-text review, and among them, 9 were included in the qualitative analysis. No restriction was applied in language, publication date, or status. The most studied cytokines in the articles included in this review were interferon (IFN)-γ and interleukin (IL)-10 (six articles), tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and IL-6 (five articles), and macrophage inflammatory protein (four articles). The main findings show that there is a reduction in the number of cells expressing IFN-γ (p = .02) and TNF-α (p = .01), in the cervices of HIV-HPV co-infected women compared with those infected only by HPV. In addition, levels of IL-6 (p = .039) and IL-10 (p = .02) are increased in the cervical secretions of HIV-positive women compared to seronegative patients. Despite these findings, there is a clear need of larger studies to understand the role of these immune factors in HPV-induced cervical neoplasia of women co-infected with HIV.Chokeberry (aronia) fruit is a rich source of bioactive compounds with various health benefits. However, it has a limited shelf life and a firm (tight) structure that makes it difficult for moisture transfer during drying. Therefore, the aim of the study is to investigate the effects of high-power ultrasound pretreatment (550 W, 30 min) and air drying temperature (65, 70 and 75 °C) on the drying rate and bioactive compounds of chokeberry fruit. Accordingly, chokeberries were dried directly or after ultrasound pretreatment, and the retention rate of bioactive properties, i.e., total phenolic, flavonoid and monomeric anthocyanin contents along with antioxidant capacity values, were examined. The required time for drying as well as the activation energy values were significantly lower in ultrasound treated samples. Logarithmic and Midilli models exhibited the best fit for drying kinetics of samples. The pretreatment led to significantly lower moisture content and aw values. Compared to fresh sample, the highest retention rate for some bioactive properties was found in ultrasound pretreated sample dried at 75 °C.
