A 30-year-old nulliparous woman was transferred under suspicion of acute appendicitis, due to the sudden onset of severe right lower quadrant pain at 31 weeks and 4 days of gestation. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a cystic mass measuring 40 mm in diameter in the right lower abdomen. Because the right ovary without edematous swelling was noted adjacent to the cystic mass, isolated tubal torsion was strongly suspected. Emergency gasless laparoendoscopic single-site surgery showed isolated torsion of the right fallopian tube with a paratubal cyst. The right ovary was not involved in this torsion. Because the color tone of the distal portion of the fallopian tube did not recover sufficiently after detorsion, right salpingectomy was performed. Postoperatively, the infusion of magnesium sulfate was initiated due to increased uterine contraction and continued until 36 weeks of gestation. At 38 weeks and 1 day of gestation, uneventful vaginal delivery yielded a healthy female infant. © 2020 Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The use of mass antimicrobial treatment has been linked to the emergence of antimicrobial resistance in human and animal pathogens. Using whole genome (SMRT) sequencing, we characterized genomic variability of multidrug-resistant R. equi isolated from soil samples from 100 farms endemic for R. equi infections in Kentucky. We discovered the novel erm(51) encoding resistance to MLSB in R. equi isolates from soil of horse-breeding farms. erm(51) is inserted in a transposon (TnErm51), that is associated either with a putative conjugative plasmid (pRErm51), a mobilizable plasmid (pMobErm51), or both enabling horizontal gene transfer to susceptible organisms and conferring high levels of resistance against MLSB in vitro. This new resistant genotype also carries 2 previously unidentified rpoB mutations conferring resistance to rifampicin. Isolates carrying both vapA and erm(51) were rarely found, indicating either a recent acquisition of erm(51) and/or impaired survival when isolates carry both genes. Isolates carrying erm(51) are closely related genetically and were likely selected by antimicrobial exposure in the environment. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. METHODS A nonequivalent control group pretest and post-test study design was used in this study. Twenty-eight participants-14 in the intervention group and 14 in the control group-were recruited from two hospitals in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, between February and April 2015. The intervention group received two 60-min sessions of animal-assisted therapy weekly for 8 weeks, while the control group received conventional care. The cognitive function, emotional state (mood, depression), activities of daily living, and problematic behaviours of the two groups were compared at three points (before the study, at week 4, and at week 8). RESULTS The results showed significant group-by-time interactions of cognitive function (P  less then  0.001), mood status (P  less then  0.001), depressive symptoms (P  less then  0.01), degrees of activities of daily living (P  less then  0.001), and problematic behaviours (P  less then  0.001). There were no significant group differences, but significant time differences were observed in cognitive function (P  less then  0.001), mood status (P  less then  0.05), degrees of activities of daily living (P  less then  0.01), and problematic behaviours (P  less then  0.05). Selleck Dapagliflozin CONCLUSION The findings of the study suggest the adoption of animal-assisted therapy in the daily care of older adults with dementia for improving their psychological and behavioural problems. © 2020 The Authors Psychogeriatrics published by John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd on behalf of Japanese Psychogeriatric Society.INTRODUCTION AND AIMS The risk of alcohol-related injuries and violence increases in late-night settings. We analysed temporal patterns of drinking and assaults and present an event-level analysis of connections between night-time drinking, estimated blood alcohol level, location and drinkers' age and sex. DESIGN AND METHODS Main data source is a Finnish general population (aged 18-69 years) survey carried out in 2016 (n = 1962), including event-level data on drinking occasions in the previous 7 days (n = 1891). Statistical analyses consisted of tabulations and logistic regression analyses. RESULTS Finns' drinking peaked around 8-9 pm on most days, with the greatest peaks on Fridays and Saturdays. The main pattern was similar for drinking occasions occurring in home surroundings and in licensed premises, but a larger proportion of the latter occurred in later hours of the day. Assaults had a similar weekday distribution, but the peak occurred several hours later, around 3-5 am. One explanation is that the mean estimated blood alcohol concentration strongly increased as the ending time of the drinking occasion extended later into the night, and the proportion of late-night drinking was higher in licensed premises than home surroundings. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS Peaks for assaults in public places temporally coincide with the late closing times of licensed premises and with high estimated blood alcohol concentrations among drinkers. The results underline a need to reduce harm from intoxication, which in public places could include restricted opening hours, increased law enforcement, improved responsible beverage service practices and other interventions to better manage aggression. © 2020 The Authors. Often, these regions contain specialized transcriptomes that facilitate these functions by providing transcripts for localized translation. These transcripts play a functional role in maintaining cell physiology by enabling quick response to changes in cellular environment. Here, we review how RNA molecules are trafficked within cells, with a focus on the subcellular locations to which they are trafficked, mechanisms that regulate their transport, and clinical disorders associated with misregulation of the process.
