Histopathological injury, phenotypic malformation, abnormal locomotor behavior and changes in neuromarkers all confirmed the biological functions of CELF2 in zebrafish brain. These findings demonstrate that TCS might regulate some of the AS events of nerve-related genes through upregulating the expression of CELF2. Thus, CELF2 may serve as a target for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of contaminant-induced neurological diseases.Atmospheric deposition is an important source of trace metals to surface environments, but knowledge about plant bioavailability of recently deposited metals and their fate in the soil-plant system is limited. We performed a fully factorial soil and atmosphere exposure experiment with three vegetables (radish, lettuce, and soybean). Treatments included soil profiles collected from three sites located along a strong gradient of atmospheric deposition with each soil type deployed across the three sites for one year, which allowed to effectively distinguish impacts of recently deposited metals ( less then 1 year) from longer-term trace metal exposures in soils. Results showed that recently deposited copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) accounted for 0.5-15.2% of total soil Cu, Cd, and Pb pools at the site most heavily impacted by atmospheric deposition, while recent deposition contributed 15-76% of Cu, Cd, and Pb concentrations in edible parts of vegetables. In addition, soil geochemical extractions showed that bioavailable fractions of trace metals from recent deposition (52-73%) were higher compared to metals previously present in soils (7-42%). These findings highlight a preferential uptake and high rates of bioaccumulation of deposited metals in vegetables and suggest a high potential of environmental risks of food pollution under high atmospheric metal deposition. In this paper, phosphogypsum (PG) with the content of 226Ra of about 500 Bq kg-1 was used as a clay additive in mass ratios of (0-40) % and its influence on the radiological and mineralogical characteristics of the obtained brick samples was monitored. After sintering the samples at 1000 ℃, the formation of the mineral phase gehlenite was observed, and its share increased with the share of PG in the samples. The Monte Carlo method was used to determine the gamma dose rates, and consequently annual effective dose, for a standard room, with dimensions 4 × 5 × 2.8 m, whose walls were built of brick with PG. The obtained values were in the range (0.22-0.35) mSv y-1. In addition, the active device RAD7 was used to determine the radon surface exhalation rates from the samples, which were found to be in the range (63-150) mBq m-2 h-1. see more The estimated indoor radon concentrations were found to be drastically lower than 100 Bq m-3, leading to low radon inhalation doses. However, estimated annual effective doses from external gamma exposure were found not to be insignificant.Constructed wetlands for antibiotics and heavy metals removal have become important reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and heavy metal resistance genes (MRGs), especially in the substrates. Here, substrate-free hydroponic microcosms of Myriophyllum aquaticum were established; tetracyclines (TCs) and Cu(II) were added to evaluate the behaviours of ARGs and MRGs in the microcosms. Several ARGs, MRGs, and mobile genetic elements (MGE) were detected in the biofilms attached to the plants, ranging from 0.5 to 2.3 × 108 copies/g dry weight. ARGs and MRGs exhibited higher relative abundances in the effluent suspended solids (SS); however, their absolute amounts were much lower than those in conventionally constructed wetlands. Microcosms with TCs and Cu(II) exhibited a higher level of resistant genes than those with compound added singularly owing to co-selection pressure. The existence of TCs and copper significantly changed the microbial communities in the microcosms. The exogenous input of TC/Cu(II) and microbial community structure were the factors driving the occurrence of ARGs, whereas MRGs were more correlated with the copper addition. Thus, reducing the exogenous inputs of antibiotics /heavy metals and SS of the effluent is suggested for the mitigation of resistant genes in phytoremediation technologies working in the absence of conventional substrates. This study evaluated and compared the performance of two vertical flow constructed wetlands (VF) using expanded clay (VF1) and biochar (VF2), of which both are low-cost, eco-friendly, and exhibit potentially high adsorption as compared to conventional filter layers. Both VFs achieved relatively high removal for organic matters (i.e. Biological oxygen demand during 5 days, BOD5) and nitrogen, accounting for 9.5 - 10.5 g.BOD5.m-2.d-1 and 3.5 - 3.6 g.NH4-N.m-2.d-1, respectively. The different filter materials did not exert any significant discrepancy to effluent quality in terms of suspended solids, organic matters and NO3-N (P > 0.05), but they did influence NH4-N effluent as evidenced by the removal rate of that by VF1 and VF2 being of 82.4 ± 5.7 and 84.6 ± 6.4%, respectively (P less then 0.05). The results obtained from the designed systems were further subject to machine learning to clarify the effecting factors and predict the effluents. The optimal algorithms were random forest, generalized linear model, and support vector machine. The values of the coefficient of determination (R2) and the root mean square error (RMSE) of whole fitting data achieved 74.0% and 5.0 mg.L-1, 80.0% and 0.3 mg.L-1, 90.1% and 2.9 mg.L-1, and 48.5% and 0.5 mg.L-1 for BOD5_VF1, NH4-N_VF1, BOD5_VF2, and NH4-N_VF2, respectively.Photocatalysis is an effective method to degrade ranitidine (RAN), which is a typical precursor of nitrosamine dimethylamine (NDMA), an extremely potent human carcinogen. Herein, MXene-Ti3C2/MoS2 composites were prepared by a hydrothermal treatment aiming to use them for the photocatalytic degradation of RAN and the reduction of NDMA formation potential (NDMA-FP) under visible light irradiation for the first time. The analysis of the morphology, chemical composition and structure of these composites as well as the results of electrochemical experiments showed that a heterojunction was formed between MoS2 and Ti3C2, which facilitated the separation of electron-hole pairs and charge transfer, and thereby the photocatalytic performance. The MXene-Ti3C2/MoS2 composite (MT-4) exhibited the best photocatalytic performance in 60 min, with the highest RAN degradation and mineralization efficiencies of 88.4% and 73.58%, and the lowest NDMA-FP of 2.01%. Active species, including •O2- radicals, h+ and •OH radicals, all contributed to the degradation of RAN, among which •OH radicals were the main active species involved in the photocatalytic activity.
