A 54-year-old male patient with metastatic small cell lung carcinoma received chemotherapy and in follow-up he was referred to positron emission tomography (PET)/CT scan for re-staging. In addition to the primary disease, increased Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (F-18 FDG) uptake was detected in skin and subcutaneous fat tissue in the axillary, periscrotal, and perianal regions, which was later proven as hidradenitis suppurativa in PET/CT images.A 35-year-old female presented with right-sided gluteal pain and difficulty in walking 10 years after surgical symphysiotomy. Radiograph of the pelvis and bilateral hip joints showed osteoarthritis of the right sacroiliac joint with pubic diastasis of 1.5 cm. She was operated with pubis symphysis reduction and fixation using two orthogonal plates with one iliosacral screw. Postoperative period was uneventful. She was able to walk independently after three months of fixation. Follow-up at 18 months showed complete relief of symptoms with maintenance of reduction and no hardware breakage. The Lindahl score was 78, indicating an excellent outcome.Total anomalous pulmonary venous return (TAPVR) is a rare congenital heart disease (CHD) with an incidence of less than 1%. It is known that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has a worse prognosis in those with underlying disorders. Children with congenital heart defects can contract COVID-19 irrespective of their surgical correction status. We report a case of a three-year-old girl with unoperated TAPVR, who presented with respiratory distress, lethargy, and reduced feeding. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) of nasopharyngeal aspirate came back positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). There was no growth of any other viral or bacterial pathogens. Throughout her admission, she had an overall mild course of the disease and did not need mechanical ventilation. Oxygen was given via nasal cannula to maintain SpO2 in the target range. ZINC05007751 in vitro Chest X-ray (CXR) showed bilateral patchy consolidation while a chest CT with contrast showed significant venous congestion. Her length of hospital stay was 25 days. Infection with SARS-CoV-2 did not cause a critical disease and was not different clinically to any other bacterial or viral infection. The potential risk of further cardiac deterioration in COVID-19 in any CHD should be handled with caution as these children can decompensate rapidly. Background The 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted the globe dramatically. It has affected daily life noticeably and the teaching process is one of the significantly affected aspects as the learning approach has been shifted to distance learning (DL). These new changes may affect student performance and emotional well-being. This study aimed to assess the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and distance learning on healthcare students. Method An online self-administered cross-sectional survey was distributed to healthcare students for the period between April 2020 to June 2020. The study included students from different universities in Saudi Arabia. Knowledge and perception of COVID-19 and the experience of distance learning during the pandemic period were assessed using a 5-point Likert scale. Psychological effect was evaluated using Four-Item Patient Health Questionnaire for Anxiety and Depression (PHQ-4). Results A total of 721 students completed the survey with the majority being females. Around 25% of students had experienced anxiety, while 35% had depression. Severe anxiety and depression were noted in over 6% of the participants. Younger age and female gender were more affected psychologically. Students with higher scores in PHQ-4 were strongly disagreeing that hand gloves and surgical masks may help in preventing COVID-19 transmission. Students with normal psychological assessment were more likely to favor DL, while students with moderate to severe anxiety and depression disagreed. Conclusion Healthcare students have alarmingly high levels of anxiety and depression during the COVID-19 pandemic. General knowledge of the pandemic is not associated with the psychological impact. DL is a convenient approach for students with normal PHQ-4 scores. Programs to help students overcome the psychological impact of COVID-19 are highly recommended.A lymphatic mesenteric cyst (LMC) is a rare clinical entity, of unclear etiopathogenesis, which can arise in the abdominal cavity or retroperitoneum without a clear origin. We describe a case of a 74-year-old male presenting with abdominal pain that was non-specific and non-responsive to medical therapy. Laboratory tests clinical examination were inconclusive while the abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan showed a cystic lesion of the ileal mesentery. We performed an open surgical excision of the lesion with the resolution of clinical symptoms. The lesion resulted to be an LMC at the histological examination. At the five-year CT scan follow-up, we did not record any recurrences. LMCs present without specific symptoms and imaging diagnostic techniques, such as ultrasound (US) or CT scan may define its features, location, or size. The preoperative diagnosis remains difficult, which is why the complete surgical excision is the gold standard treatment, aiming to prevent malignant transformation, complications, and recurrences.Introduction Inappropriate fluid prescriptions result in excess morbidity and mortality in surgical patients. The majority of prescriptions are done by foundation year one doctors (FY1s) despite repeated evidence of poor knowledge and prescription habits among them when it comes to prescribing fluids. Materials and methods This was a retrospective observational study conducted at a 798-bed district general teaching hospital. Data for one year from an out-of-hours (OOHs) electronic task record system was extracted. An analysis was performed on all surgical 'Fluid Reviews' jobs recorded in the period from August 1, 2018, to August 7, 2019. Results During the 371-day study period, 1,283 requests for fluid reviews were made. Of these, 1,228 (95.7%) were assigned to the FY1 and 1,185 (92.3%) were requested by nurses. There was a mean of 3.5 ±2.1 requests per day. A bimodal distribution of requests was noted with peaks at 1900 and 2400. There was no discernible variation between different days of the week. Conclusion Fluid reviews were most frequently requested by nursing staff at times that coincide with their handover and the commencement of a new fluid chart at midnight.
