Poly(ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) films were electrodeposited galvanostatically from an EDOT/sodium dodecyl sulfate solution in water, through a carboxylated polystyrene template monolayer self-assembled on ITO, after which the template was dissolved away in tetrahydrofuran. Analysis of the films by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy reveals large-area PEDOT honeycomb structures. The morphology of these structures was varied electrochemically, as the effective thickness and, surprisingly, the shape of the honeycomb arrangement depend on the polymerization time. Using nanospheres of 1 μm diameter and charge densities between 12 and 30 mC cm(-2) for electrodeposition generates PEDOT hexagons with very thin rectilinear walls 30-35 nm-thick and 800 nm-long, whereas at higher charge densities, circular bowls are created with 60 nm walls separating adjacent bowls; triangular areas as small as 0.02 μm(2) develop at the intersection of three nanospheres. These morphologies are specific to the use of carboxylated PS spheres and a water-based solution with a surfactant in the galvanostatic electrodeposition mode. Using smaller nanospheres, i.e. 500 nm in diameter, makes it possible to reach PEDOT hexagons with rectilinear walls as small as 11-17 nm-thick and 300 nm-long; circular bowls with 25-35 nm walls separating adjacent bowls and triangular areas as small as 0.003 μm(2) can also be generated. The wettabilities of the surfaces depend markedly on the pore depth of the PEDOT nanostructure, with contact angles going from 82° to 130° with increasing pore size. Finally these nanostructured PEDOT electrodes were used in Grätzel-type dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) as Pt-free counter-electrodes, with an increase in the yield from 7.0 (bulk PEDOT) to 8.1%.Doxorubicin remains one of the most widely used chemotherapeutic agents however its effect on healthy tissue, such as skeletal muscle, remains poorly understood. The purpose of the current study was to examine the accumulation of doxorubicin (DOX) and its metabolite doxorubicinol (DOXol) in skeletal muscle of the rat up to 8 days after the administration of a 1.5 or 4.5 mg kg-1 i.p. dose. Subsequent to either dose, DOX and DOXol were observed in skeletal muscle throughout the length of the experiment. Interestingly an efflux of DOX was examined after 96 hours, followed by an apparent re-uptake of the drug which coincided with a spike and rapid decrease of plasma DOX concentrations. The interstitial space within the muscle did not appear to play a significant rate limiting compartment for the uptake or release of DOX or DOXol from the tissue to the circulation. Furthermore, there was no evidence that DOX preferentially accumulated in a specific muscle group with either dose. Meconopsis horridula Hook (M. horridula) has been used as a traditional Tibetan medicine to relieve heat and pain as well as mobilize static blood, and it is recognized as a good treatment for bruises. This study is the first trial to evaluate the tumor inhibitory activity of M. horridula extract and its underlying mechanism in the hope of providing evidence to support the anticancer function of M. horridula.

M. horridula extract was cytotoxic to L1210 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. SEM (scanning electron microscope) observation revealed obvious morphological changes in L1210 cells after M. horridula treatment. Flow cytometry analysis demonstrated that the extract dose-dependently induced early apoptosis. Additional apoptosis parameters, such as alterations in nuclear morphology and DNA damage, were also observed. Furthermore, M. horridula treatment induced G2/M arrest. M. horridula treatment significantly increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, suggesting that ROS are a key factor in M. horridula-induced apoptosis. The present study empirically tests the keystroke-level model (KLM) for predicting the time performance of basic interaction controls on the touch-sensitive smartphone interface (i.e., tapping, pointing, dragging, and flicking). A modified KLM, tentatively called the fingerstroke-level model (FLM), is proposed using time estimates on regression models.The experiment reported was set-up to investigate the space-time entropy of movement outcome as a function of a range of spatial (10, 20 and 30 cm) and temporal (250-2500 ms) criteria in a discrete aiming task. The variability and information entropy of the movement spatial and temporal errors considered separately increased and decreased on the respective dimension as a function of an increment of movement velocity. However, the joint space-time entropy was lowest when the relative contribution of spatial and temporal task criteria was comparable (i.e., mid-range of space-time constraints), and it increased with a greater trade-off between spatial or temporal task demands, revealing a U-shaped function across space-time task criteria. Healthcare consumption, outcome of care and characterisation of the patient population should be measured systematically and continuously. Currently, rom-data are not suitable to serve as a basis for cost-effectiveness research, although a proper basis is present. Further development of rom could lead to a situation in which mental health care is purchased on the basis of cost-effectiveness. However, cost-effectiveness will only really be improved if quality of care is rewarded, rather than rewarding activities that are not always related to outcome of care.
