We know little about the antigen bias in SARS-CoV-2 humoral response and the epitopes of spike recognized by the immune system in asymptomatic (AS) patients and symptomatic (S) patients. Here, we used a microarray to evaluate the humoral immune response in the sera collected from 33 COVID-19-recovered patients up to 1 year. We found that the levels of IgG and IgM induced by the 23 proteins differed significantly in the same patients, and were able to distinguish AS and S patients. The N- and S-specific antibodies were detected even at 12 months after onset. Five epitopes were identified to be associated with the clinical adverse events, and three peptides located in RBD. Overall, this study presents a systemic view of the SARS-CoV-2 specific IgG and IgM responses between AS and S recovered patients and provide insights to promote precise development of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. The Caribbean spiny lobster, Panulirus argus (Latreille, 1804) supports important fisheries in the Caribbean region. This species is affected by a deadly virus, Panulirus argus Virus 1 (PaV1), the only known pathogenic virus for this species. As infection progresses, the effects of PaV1 on its host become systemic, with far reaching impacts on the host's physiology, including structural injuries to its gastrointestinal organs, such as the hepatopancreas and the gut. This last one becomes highly compromised in the last stages of infection. Since the gut is a key organ for the physiological stability of lobsters, we compared the transcriptomic changes in the gut of juvenile individuals of Panulirus argus naturally infected with PaV1. In the RNA-Seq analysis, we obtained a total of 485 × 106 raw reads. After cleaning, reads were de novo assembled into 68,842 transcripts and 50,257 unigenes. The length of unigenes ranged from 201 bp to 28,717 bp, with a N50 length of 2079, and a GC content of 40.61%. In the differential gene expression analysis, we identified a total of 3405 non redundant differential transcripts, of which 1920 were up-regulated and 1485 were down-regulated. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ABT-263.html We found alterations in transcripts encoding for proteins involved in transcriptional regulation, splicing, postraductional regulation, protein signaling, transmembrane transport, cytoskeletal regulation, and proteolysis, among others. This is the first insight into the transcriptomic regulation of PaV1-P. argus interaction. The information generated can help to unravel the molecular mechanisms that may intervene in the gut during PaV1 infection.Suicidal behavior is a serious health issue that affects the adolescent population and that may be prevented through evidence-based approaches. There are many risk factors involved in suicidal behavior, but there are few studies encompassing the complex relationships between them. This study tested the similarity between two latent class models from two different epidemiological samples of middle-school students and evaluated if the multinomial regression model replicated the associations between the classes and the psychosocial variables. Data of 4013 adolescents from the Mexican states of Campeche and Querétaro were included in LCA to characterize suicide behavior and associated factors. The most likely latent class membership was used as the outcome in multinomial regression models. The model with data from Querétaro was consistent with the previous LC model from Campeche. The four latent classes were nearly identical for both populations and can be defined as follows 1) "No Problems," included 73% of the adolescents; 2) "Drug Use Only," comprised 7% of the adolescents; 3) "Suicidal Behavior, No Depression," captured 8% of the adolescents (25% reported binge drinking in the past month, 50% self-inflicted injuries, and 43% low-lethality suicide attempt); 4) "Depression and Suicidal Behavior," comprised 12% of the sample (66% met criteria for Major Depressive Episode, 28% reported binge drinking in the past month, and 11% had a high-lethality suicide attempt). The congruence between the models and the consistency with identified factors highlight the need for appropriate and effective prevention strategies to minimize risk factors and reinforce protective factors in the adolescent population. The COVID-19 pandemic has profound adverse effects on the population on dialysis. Patients requiring dialysis are at an increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and mortality, and many have experienced psychological distress as well as delayed or suboptimal care. COVID-19 survivors have prolonged viral shedding, but generally develop a robust and long-lasting humoral immune response that correlates with initial disease severity. However, protection against reinfection is incomplete. A growing body of evidence reveals delayed and blunted immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. Administration of a third dose within 1 to 2 months of prime-boost vaccination significantly increases antibody levels, in particular in patients with poor initial responses. Patients on dialysis have inferior immune responses to adenoviral vector vaccines than to mRNA vaccines. The immunogenicity of the mRNA-1273 vaccine is markedly better than that of the BNT162b2 vaccine, most likely by virtue of its higher mRNA content. Despite suboptimal immune responses in patients on dialysis, preliminary data suggest that vaccination partially protects against infection and severe disease requiring hospitalization. However, progressive waning of immunity and emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants with a high potential of immune escape call for a booster dose in all patients on dialysis 4 to 6 months after prime-boost vaccination. Patients with persistent poor vaccine responses may be candidates for primary prophylaxis strategies. In the absence of specific data in patients on dialysis, therapeutic strategies in the event of established COVID-19 must be extrapolated from evidence obtained in the population not on dialysis. Neutralizing monoclonal antibodies may be an attractive option after a high-risk exposure or during the early course of infection.Astaxanthin (Ax) with a strong antioxidant activity is beneficial to human health, but its application is limited by its highly unsaturated structure and poor water-solubility. Ax-enriched colon targeted alginate particles (Ax-Alg) was prepared by high-pressure spraying and ionic gelation, and most of particles was in the range of 0.5-3.2 μm in a diameter. The in vitro models showed that Ax-Alg can maintain the structural integrity in the different conditions (pH, heat and ion). In addition, Ax-Alg can well tolerate the conditions in the mouth, stomach and small intestine and reach the colon where Ax was released due to fermentation of gut microbiota. Mice experiment showed that Ax-Alg reduced dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis, involving weight loss, disease activity index, colonic mucosal integrity and inflammation, and oxidative damage. On the other hand, Ax-Alg regulated the gut microbiota composition and reduced the abundances of Bacteroidetes members that had positive correlation with ulcerative colitis. Ax-Alg had better effect on the treatment of ulcerative colitis than oil-in-water emulsion, which can be attributed to the synergistic effect of Ax and alginate. This study can be helpful for the application of colon-targeted delivery system in the foods and treatment of colon diseases.Due to its high polyunsaturated fatty acid content, acellular fish skin has emerged as a dermal substitute for the promotion of wound healing as it decreases scar formation while providing pain relief. However, various systematic studies on acellular fish skin, such as its biophysical analysis, in vitro activities, and clinical application, have not been sufficiently investigated. In this study, we conducted a comparative study to evaluate the wound-healing ability of acellular fish skin graft (Kerecis®) with that of the widely used bovine collagen skin graft (ProHeal®). The skin grafts were evaluated not only in terms of their biophysical properties, but also their in vitro cellular activities, using fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and human endothelial cells. The clinical study evaluated wound healing in 52 patients with acute burns who underwent skin grafting on donor sites from January 2019 to December 2020. The study was conducted with two groups; while only Kerecis® was tested in one group, Kerecis® and ProHeal® were compared in the other. In both groups, the application time of the dressing material was one to two days after split-thickness skin grafting to the donor sites. The Kerecis®-treatment group experienced faster healing than the other treatment group. In particular, the average wound healing time using the Kerecis® treatment and the ProHeal® treatment was 10.7 ± 1.5 days and 13.1 ± 1.4 days, respectively. We believe that the faster healing of the Kerecis® treatment, compared to that of the ProHeal® treatment, maybe due to the synergistic effect of the unique biophysical structure and the bioactive components of acellular fish skin. The starch-based Pickering stabilizer has attracted more research interest recently, however, its application in food system is limited due to the low digestibility of raw starch particles. In this study, waxy corn starches were modified with octenyl succinic anhydride and then treated by dry heating at 180 °C for 20-60 min. Pickering emulsions stabilized by the composite-modified starch particles were fabricated, the physical stability, rheology property and microstructure of the emulsions were investigated. The results showed that the composite-modified starches maintained granule structure, their gelatinization temperatures and enthalpy significantly reduced after heat treatment (p less then 0.05). Compared with native starch, the composite-modified starches had bigger three-phase contact angles and higher in vitro digestibility, while the relative crystallinity decreased from 32.46% to 24.87%. Pickering emulsions stabilized by composite-modified starch particles had long-term stability up to 300 days. The rheology results showed that all emulsions exhibited pseudoplastic behaviors and had higher storage modulus than loss modulus. Moreover, the viscosities decreased when the starch was roasted for 40 and 60 min. The composite-modified starch particles and few starch macromolecules at oil-water interface stabilized the emulsions collectively. These results provide a new strategy for designing an edible Pickering stabilizer.One-dimensional nanoparticles such as fibers, wires, represent an exciting type of filler for obtaining nanocomposite hydrogels due to their high aspect ratio. Unlike continuous fibers, in composites with short fibers, stress transfer occurs not only at the cylindrical surface of the fiber but also at the fiber ends. This work aimed to study the influence of the length of low aspect ratio one-dimensional nanoparticles on the rheological, swelling and thermal properties of nanocomposite hydrogels. We synthesized nanocomposite hydrogels via photopolymerization of methacrylated alginate macromonomers and aluminum oxide nanoparticles, nanowires and nanofibers as fillers. The main difference between the nanoparticles lies in their length. Longer nanoparticles (nanofibers) provided a glassier structure and a more significant reinforcement to the hydrogel, for example, at the concentration of 0.5 wt% the complex modulus increased approximately 2-fold and 8-fold for nanowires and nanofibers, respectively. Similarly, the incorporation of nanofibers produced hydrogels with a lower swelling capacity (2.
