The Asian tiger mosquito Aedes albopictus (Skuse 1894), which is native to Southeast Asia, is among the top 100 invasive species worldwide and one of the most troubling vector species. It has become established in more than 20 European countries. Since its arrival in Italy in the 1990s, the species has colonized all the regions of the country, up to an altitude of 600m. Nevertheless, no thorough investigation has ever been performed to confirm or extend its elevation limit (EL) in Italy.

To define the EL of Ae. albopictus and analyse its phenology along an altitudinal gradient, we carried out an investigation by means of ovitraps placed in Lazio region, central Italy. Sampling was performed on a weekly basis in 13 villages within five 200-m altitudinal ranges [0-1000 m above sea level (asl)], with the addition of higher localities to the species range whenever the species was recorded in the highest range.

Aedes albopictus has colonized sites well beyond its known EL, with established populations at 900arked for these with the altitudinal changes in the phenology of this species.

Using data from the present study, the altitudinal limit of Ae. albopictus in central Italy was updated from 600 to 900 m asl. In addition, established populations were predicted to exist up to 1015 m asl. Considering that up to 99.5% of Lazio region's inhabitants could potentially be affected by Aedes-borne virus outbreaks, the surveillance area for Ae. albopictus should be expanded accordingly. However, our results also indicate that Ae. albopictus surveillance programs need to be revised in order to harmonize the resources earmarked for these with the altitudinal changes in the phenology of this species.A simple, practical, and high chemo-selective method for the synthesis of propargyl alcohol and allenyl alcohols via Cu-catalyzed, Mn-mediated propargylation and allenylation of aldehydes with propargyl bromides has been established. When 3-bromo-1-propyne was conducted under the standard condition, the aldehydes were transformed to the corresponding propargylation products completely, while when 1-bromo-2-pentyne was used, allenic alcohol was the only product. Variety of homopropargyl alcohols and allenyl alcohols were obtained in high yields and the reaction is compatible with broad substrate scopes. In addition, the large-scale reaction could also be proceeded smoothly indicating the potential synthetic applications of this transformation.

To develop an effective malaria vector intervention method in forested international border regions within the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), more in-depth studies should be conducted on local Anopheles species composition and bionomic features. There is a paucity of comprehensive surveys of biodiversity integrating morphological and molecular species identification conducted within the border of Laos and Cambodia.

A total of 2394 adult mosquitoes were trapped in the Cambodia-Laos border region. We first performed morphological identification of Anopheles mosquitoes and subsequently performed molecular identification using 412 recombinant DNA-internal transcribed spacer 2 (rDNA-ITS2) and 391 mitochondrial DNA-cytochrome c oxidase subunit 2 (mtDNA-COII) sequences. The molecular and morphological identification results were compared, and phylogenetic analysis of rDNA-ITS2 and mtDNA-COII was conducted for the sequence divergence among species.

Thirteen distinct species of Anopheles were molecularly identibined with morphological analysis to determine species composition, population dynamics and bionomic characteristics can facilitate a better understanding of the factors driving malaria transmission and the effects of interventions, and can aid in achieving the goal of eliminating malaria.

The Cambodia-Laos border hosts a high diversity of Anopheles species. The morphological identification of Anopheles species provides higher accuracy for dominant species than for other species. Molecular methods combined with morphological analysis to determine species composition, population dynamics and bionomic characteristics can facilitate a better understanding of the factors driving malaria transmission and the effects of interventions, and can aid in achieving the goal of eliminating malaria.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by a dyad of behavioural symptoms-social and communication deficits and repetitive behaviours. Multiple aetiological genetic and environmental factors have been identified as causing or increasing the likelihood of ASD, including serum zinc deficiency. Our previous studies revealed that dietary zinc supplementation can normalise impaired social behaviours, excessive grooming, and heightened anxiety in a Shank3 mouse model of ASD, as well as the amelioration of synapse dysfunction. Here, we have examined the efficacy and breadth of dietary zinc supplementation as an effective therapeutic strategy utilising a non-Shank-related mouse model of ASD-mice with Tbr1 haploinsufficiency.

We performed behavioural assays, amygdalar slice whole-cell patch-clamp electrophysiology, and immunohistochemistry to characterise the synaptic mechanisms underlying the ASD-associated behavioural deficits observed in Tbr1

mice and the therapeutic pote dietary zinc supplementation observed in rodent models may not reproduce the same effects in human patients. The effect of dietary zinc supplementation on synaptic function in other brain structures affected by Tbr1 haploinsufficiency including olfactory bulb and anterior commissure will also need to be examined.

Our data further the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the effect of dietary zinc supplementation and verify the efficacy and breadth of its application as a potential treatment strategy for ASD.

Health data from different specialties or domains generallly have diverse formats and meanings, which can cause semantic communication barriers when these data are exchanged among heterogeneous systems. As such, this study is intended to develop a national health concept data model (HCDM) and develop a corresponding system to facilitate healthcare data standardization and centralized metadata management.

Based on 55 data sets (4640 data items) from 7 health business domains in China, a bottom-up approach was employed to build the structure and metadata for HCDM by referencing HL7 RIM. According to ISO/IEC 11179, a top-down approach was used to develop and standardize the data elements.

HCDM adopted three-level architecture of class, attribute and data type, and consisted of 6 classes and 15 sub-classes. Each class had a set of descriptive attributes and every attribute was assigned a data type. 100 initial data elements (DEs) were extracted from HCDM and 144 general DEs were derived from corresponding initial DEs. Domain DEs were transformed by specializing general DEs using 12 controlled vocabularies which developed from HL7 vocabularies and actual health demands. A model-based system was successfully established to evaluate and manage the NHDD.

HCDM provided a unified metadata reference for multi-source data standardization and management. This approach of defining health data elements was a feasible solution in healthcare information standardization to enable healthcare interoperability in China.

Metabolic syndrome is characterized by several conditions including abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, impaired glucose levels, and hypertension; which all are directly associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to evaluate the association of the amount and source of dietary protein with the risk of metabolic syndrome and its components in adult men and women.

This study was performed using Persian cohort data, Fasa branch, which included 3660 men and 5262 women. Individuals were divided into five groups for total dietary proteins, plant proteins, and animal proteins using the quintiles, and the odds of incidence for metabolic syndrome and each component was evaluated.

A higher intake of total protein was associated with lower odds of having metabolic syndrome (OR 0.24 95% CI 0.18-0.33, P-trend < 0.001 in men, OR 0.42 95% CI 0.34-0.51, P-trend < 0.001 in women) and all of its components. men (OR 0.35 95% CI 0.25-0.48, P-trend < 0.001revalence abdominal obesity. Also, only in men, animal protein was associated with decreased risk of having metabolic syndrome.

The impact of infections with tick-borne pathogens (TBPs) other than Borrelia burgdorferi (s.l.) and tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) on public health in Europe remains unclear. Our goal is to evaluate whether the presence of these TBPs in ticks can be associated with self-reported health complaints.

We enrolled individuals who were bitten by I. ricinus between 2012 and 2015 and collected their relevant demographic and clinical information using a self-administered online questionnaire. A total of 4163 I. ricinus ticks sent by the participants were subject to molecular analyses for detection of specific TBPs. Associations between the presence of TBPs in ticks and self-reported complaints and symptoms were evaluated by means of a stepwise approach using a generalized linear model (GLM).

Of 17 self-reported complaints and symptoms significant in the univariate analyses, 3 had a highly significant association (P < 0.01) with at least one TBP in the multivariate analysis. Self-reported Lyme borreliosefore any clinical outcome can be causally linked to infection with TBPs.

Buschke-Löwenstein tumor is a giant condyloma acuminata infection that is characterized by degeneration, invasion, and recurrence. It is associated with human papilloma virus infection. It develops around the genital and perineal area, sometimes causing a large budding ulcerated lesion. see more Although human immunodeficiency virus infection is frequent in Africa, there are few descriptions of Buschke-Löwenstein tumor diagnosis and its management. Screening for other sexually transmitted infections must be systematic among these patients.

We report herein the case of a 21-year-old African origin male patient who developed a perineal swelling. Physical examination showed evidence of a huge exophytic tumor made up of budding pinkish vegetations, with serrated crests, a butterfly wing structure, and a cauliflower-like appearance crowned with centrifugal circinate lesions. Multiple condylomatous lesions of the anal margin were also present. The patient tested positive for human immunodeficiency virus (cluster of or other sexually transmitted infections. In most cases, the treatment is surgical, in association with local therapies. However, recurrences are common.
