The rapid outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has affected citizens' daily lives in an unprecedented way. To curb the spread of the pandemic, governments have taken numerous measures such as social distancing and quarantine, which may be associated with psychological consequences, namely stress and loneliness globally. To understand differential associations of personality traits with psychological consequences of COVID-19, we utilize data from a sample of 99,217 individuals from 41 countries collected as part of the COVIDiSTRESS Global Survey. Data were analyzed using multigroup confirmatory factor analysis and multilevel regression models. Findings showed that while some of the associations were rather weak, Big Five personality traits were significantly associated with perceived stress and loneliness during the pandemic. Our study illustrates that neuroticism especially can be a vulnerability factor for stress and loneliness in times of crisis and can contribute to detection of at-risk individuals and optimization of psychological treatments during or after the COVID-19 pandemic.During the COVID-19 pandemic, various behavioral measures were imposed to curb the spread of the virus. In a preregistered study based on a quota-representative sample of adult Danish citizens (N = 1031), we compared the prevalence estimates of self-reported handwashing, physical distancing, and attitudes toward the behavioral measures between people surveyed with a direct and an indirect questioning approach (i.e., the crosswise model). Moreover, we investigated two possible predictors of sensitive behaviors and attitudes, namely empathy for people vulnerable to the virus and Honesty-Humility from the HEXACO Model of Personality. We also examined the interaction of both predictors with the questioning format. Survey participants reported more violation of guidelines regarding handwashing and physical distancing when asked indirectly rather than directly, whereas attitudes regarding the behavioral measures did not differ between the two questioning formats. Respondents with less empathy for people vulnerable to COVID-19 reported more violations of handwashing and physical-distancing, and those low on Honesty-Humility reported more violations of physical distancing.Indoor spread of infectious diseases is well-studied as a common transmission route. For highly infectious diseases, like Sars-CoV-2, considering poorly or semi ventilated areas outdoors is increasingly important. This is important in communities with high proportions of infected people, highly infectious variants, or where spread is difficult to manage. This work develops a simulation framework based on probabilistic distributions of viral particles, decay, and infection. The methodology reduces the computational cost of generating rapid estimations of a wide variety of scenarios compared to other simulation methods with high computational cost and more fidelity. Outdoor predictions are provided in example applications for a gathering of five people with oscillating wind and a public speaking event. The results indicate that infection is sensitive to population density and outdoor transmission is plausible and likely locations of a virtual super-spreader are identified. Outdoor gatherings should consider precautions to reduce infection spread. The deep blue sky is an indicator of a lower concentration of aerosols and a cloudless sky. With increasing human emissions, a trend towards days with fewer deep blue skies might indicate a decline in a good living environment for humans. This study investigates the long-term changes of the deep blue sky in China from 1980 to 2018. Due to a lack of direct measurements, we use atmospheric visibility and low cloud cover to classify blue sky days into three grades light blue day, medium blue day, and deep blue day. Climatologically, annual deep blue days increase from southeast China to northwest China, with the maximum number in Xinjiang and eastern Inner Mongolia and the minimum number in western Qinghai and southern Hebei. From 1980 to 2018, annual deep blue days show a prominent decreasing trend in most of China, with area-mean annual deep blue days decreasing by -0.48 days per year (d/y) in China, and the variation becomes more obvious after 2013. The maximum decreasing trend is observed in eastern China. The most prominent decreases of deep blue days are seen in winter. Both air pollution and the change in meteorological conditions contribute to the decrease of wintertime deep blue days in China. Specifically, the decrease in surface wind speed hinders the cleaning of air by winds, the increase in surface air temperature, and decrease in relative humidity is favorable for low cloud increase, and the increasing emission of pollution reduces atmospheric visibility.

As compared with other jurisdictions such as EU countries, its bedrock is still in formation, particularly pertaining to its envisaged role in the regulatory spectrum applicable to consumer markets. However, this circumstance has not been a serious obstacle to several reforms carried out in recent years aimed at broadening its scope of action, including rethinking a proposal regarding the policy goals to be addressed by the national consumer agency, SERNAC. In that context, this article presents a brief account of the main features of Chilean consumer law, considering the current socioeconomic development level of the country, the main pieces of legislation concerning consumer protection in the Chilean legal framework-notably the Chilean Consumer Protection Act-as well as key elements of the public policy approach in this matter. A few examples of topics such as product liability and sale and purchase of consumer goods are also analysed in order to allow a comparison of the Chilean experience in consumer protection with other jurisdictions. This paper analyses the influence of European Law on Brazilian Consumer Law. It starts by describing the general features of Brazilian Consumer Protection law, including the constitutional dimension of consumer protection, and the introduction of the Brazilian Consumer Protection and Defence Code (CDC). learn more It also highlights product liability, product safety, and product warranties. Some of these topics are illustrated by the case of the telecommunications sector. We came together in March 2021 for a joyous celebration of Dr Gordon Plant's incredible career. This is a report of the meeting tidings.Styloidogenic jugular venous compression syndrome has been recently described as a new cause of idiopathic intracranial hypertension. We present a 69-year-old patient, without other relevant medical history, presenting with 3 years of positional headache associated with decreased vision when reading and while turning her head to the right or left. She also reported pulsatile low-frequency tinnitus. Papilloedema was noted on the physical examination and, on imaging, an enlarged styloid process that induced jugular vein compression. The patient underwent styloidectomy with resolution of her symptoms and normalisation of her visual fields. We report a case of a 28-year-old otherwise healthy female patient who presented with blurred vision in her right eye related to multiple branch retinal artery occlusions confirmed by fluorescein angiography. Investigation revealed positive antinuclear antibodies and an interatrial septal aneurysm on transthoracic echocardiography. The patient was treated with oral prednisolone and aspirin. Two months after her initial presentation, she developed hearing loss and tinnitus. Ophthalmological examination revealed temporal inferior and nasal inferior branch retinal artery occlusions in the left eye. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed multifocal T2 hyperintense lesions in cortical and subcortical areas as well as the corpus callosum consistent with Susac's syndrome. The diagnosis of Susac's syndrome should be kept in mind in young patients presenting with multiple or recurrent retinal artery occlusions even in the absence of associated systemic symptoms to not delay appropriate management.A 64-year-old female suffering from lung cancer was treated with crizotinib. Two years later, whitish massive optic disc oedema was observed in the right eye. The fluorescein angiography results were suggestive of uveitis but also revealed leakage from the optic disc, retinal veins, and capillaries in the posterior retina and the periphery. These findings remained for over a year without deterioration of vision and disappeared immediately after crizotinib was replaced with alectinib. Late-onset ocular toxicity by crizotinib was strongly suspected, given the clinical course. This is the first report precisely documenting crizotinib-induced morphological changes in the optic disc and retina.Apart from the known factors that cause toxic optic neuropathy, there may be factors that have not yet been identified. We report a 32-year-old man who presented with a complaint of decreased vision. His optic discs were diffusely covered with a black pigment, and below were atrophic. The vessels appeared to have disappeared below the pigmentation. He reported smoking tobacco, drinking alcohol, and using cannabis. His vision in both eyes began decreasing gradually after he started using bonsai, a synthetic cannabinoid, 2 years previously. No case of toxic optic neuropathy with bilateral severe vision loss and intense pigmentation with the use of bonsai has been reported before, and our case will be reinforced if other such cases are reported in the future.A 47-year-old woman who presented with headache and blurring of vision was referred to us due to suspicion of idiopathic intracranial hypertension or cerebral sinus venous thrombosis. She had chronic kidney disease and underwent dialysis through multiple ports including the right internal jugular vein (IJV). Her examination showed a best corrected visual acuity of 20/20 in each eye, normal anterior segments in each eye but bilateral papilloedema. Magnetic resonance imaging and venography (MRV) of her brain with contrast showed signs of raised intracranial pressure and a hypoplastic left transverse sinus. An MRV of her neck showed a thrombosis of the right IJV. Her symptoms and papilloedema resolved with carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and anticoagulants. This case highlights an uncommon presentation of papilloedema secondary to raised intracranial pressure from IJV thrombosis and its pathogenesis. In addition to ocular neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis (MS), accompanying microvascular changes in the retina are thought to occur. In this study we sought to compare retinal neurodegenerative changes using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and microvascular changes using OCT angiography (OCTA) of MS patients and healthy controls. This cross-sectional study included 164 eyes of 83 MS patients and 114 eyes of 57 healthy control subjects. There were significant differences in retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL), ganglion cell complex (GCC), and radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) vessel density (VD) between the MS group and the control group, but no significant differences in superficial capillary plexus (SCP) VD and deep capillary plexus (DCP) VD, foveal avascular zone (FAZ), non-flow area (NFA), and choriocapillary flow (CCF) values. Comparing the eyes with and without previous optic neuritis showed no significant differences in the OCT and OCTA measurements. A negative correlation was found between the expanded disability status scale score and disease duration and the RNFL and GCC values.
