The prevalence of frailty in elderly inpatients with gastric and colorectal cancer was 43.8%. A multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that older age (OR = 1.065, 95% CI 1.001-1.132, P = 0.045), low handgrip strength (OR = 4.346, 95% CI 1.739-10.863, P = 0.002), no regular exercise habit (OR = 3.228, 95% CI 1.230-8.469, P = 0.017), and low MNA-SF score (OR = 11.090, 95% CI 5.119-24.024, P < 0.001) were risk factors of frailty.

The management of limb-length discrepancy secondary to traumatic femoral bone loss poses a unique challenge for surgeons. The Ilizarov technique is popular, but is associated with long external fixator time and many complications. This retrospective study assessed outcomes of post-traumatic femoral defects managed by monorail external fixation over an intramedullary nail.

Eight patients were included from October 2015 to May 2019 with post-traumatic femoral defects that underwent treatment with monorail fixator-assisted intramedullary nailing. Primary outcome was time to bone union and bone results according to ASAMI classification. Secondary outcomes were lengthening index, consolidation time and index, external fixator index (EFI), time to partial weight bearing(PWB) and full weight bearing (FWB), and complications. Patient reported outcome measures including EQ-5D-5L, SF-36, Oxford knee scores (OKS), and Oxford hip scores (OHS) were recorded after recovery.

The objective of this study was to assess mid- to long-term functional outcomes in patients treated for symptomatic posterolateral instability of the elbow (PLRI) using an autologous ipsilateral triceps tendon as graft.

A total of 196 patients were treated with autologous triceps tendon graft for symptomatic PLRI at single orthopedic institution from 2006 to 2013. The surgical treatment contained arthroscopic instability testing, reconstruction of the lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL) and harvesting autologous ipsilateral triceps tendon as graft. Here, we performed a systematic analysis on ASGs, focusing on their sequence characterization, origination and expression patterns. Our results reveal that there are 4823 ASGs in the genome, approximately 11.84% of all protein-coding genes. High proportion (45.78%) of ASGs originate from gene duplication, and the time of gene duplication of ASGs is consistent with the timing of two genome-wide replication (WGD) events that occurred in A. corniculatum, and also coincides with a short period of global warming during the Paleocene-Eocene Maximum (PETM, 55.5 million years ago). Gene structure analysis showed that ASGs have shorter protein lengths, fewer exons, and higher isoelectric point. Expression patterns analysis showed that ASGs had low levels of expression and more tissue-specific expression. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) revealed that 86 ASGs co-expressed gene modules were primarily involved in pathways related to adversity stress, including plant hormone signal transduction, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, photosynthesis, peroxisome and pentose phosphate pathway. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the characteristics and potential functions of ASGs and identifies key candidate genes, which will contribute to the subsequent further investigation of the adaptation of A. corniculatum to intertidal coastal wetland habitats.

This study compared two surgical techniques using acellular dermal matrix (ADM) for the treatment of multiple gingival recessions.

Twenty patients, with bilateral RT1 gingival recessions, were selected. One side received a modified extended coronally advanced flap (MECAF), and the contralateral side a supra-periosteal flap (TUN). The evaluated parameters were probing depth (PD), relative clinical attachment level, gingival index, gingival recession height (GR), width of keratinized tissue, keratinized tissue thickness, and gingival recession area at baseline and 6 months postoperative. Pain was evaluated weekly, using a visual analog scale (VAS) during first month postoperative.

Both groups were effective in reducing GR (ΔGR MECAF 2.28 mm; TUN 1.93 mm), without significant differences. The % of root coverage was numerically superior favoring MECAF (MECAF 61.24%; TUN 56.07%), without significant differences between groups. VAS scale failed to provide differences between groups.

Both treatment were effe coverage when using these techniques in large gingival recessions. The study failed to provide significant differences between groups. The use of modified extended coronally advanced flap may be advisable for the treatment of multiple gingival recessions, specially involving large defects when using ADM, to avoid early matrix exposure.

The aim of this study was to investigate cementocyte mechanotransduction during excessive orthodontic intrusive force-induced root resorption and the role of S1P signaling in this process.

Fifty-four 12-week-old male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 3 groups control group (Control), intrusive stress application group (Stress), and intrusive stress together with S1PR2-specific antagonist injection group (Stress + JTE). A rat molar intrusion model was established on animals in the Stress and the Stress + JTE groups. The animals in the Stress + JTE group received daily intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of S1PR2 antagonist JTE-013, while the Control and Stress groups received only the vehicle. Histomorphometric, immunohistochemical, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot analyses were performed after euthanizing of the rats.

In the present study, we intend to assess the function of Sema3A in osteointegration of titanium implants both in vivo and in vitro.

Briefly, Sema3A was transfected in HBMSCs cells to detect its effect on osteogenesis. Subsequently, an in vivo rabbit model was established. Eighteen female rabbits were randomly assigned into three groups (n=6), and rabbits in the two treatment groups (OVX groups) were subjected to bilateral ovariectomy, while those in the control group were treated with sham operation. Twelve weeks later, we first examined expression levels of Sema3A in rabbits of the three groups. Titanium implants were implanted in rabbit proximal tibia. Specifically, rabbits in sham group were implanted with Matrigel, while the remaining in the OVX experimental group (OVX+Sema3A group) and OVX group were implanted with Matrigel containing Sema3A adeno-associated virus or empty vector, respectively.

Histomorphometry results uncovered that rabbits in the OVX+Sema3A group had a significantly higher BIC compared with those of the OVX group on the 12th week of post-implantation. In vivo studies were conducted for a period of 60 days, and 12 local, non-descript, adult male goats (10-14 months age; 31.09 ± 2.91 kg body weight) were randomly assigned to two groups and were fed on ad libitum wheat straw with either conventional (control) or SMFM containing concentrate mixture (treatment). Results of the study showed that there was no variation in body weight of the goats between periods and between groups. DM and OM intake along with their digestibility were similar among the two groups. The digestibility of all other nutrients was comparable between the two groups. Nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus balance were positive in both the groups without any significant disparity.
