Significantly, dCPP could inhibit the proliferation of IL-4-induced M2-like TAMs, and significantly increase the mRNA expression levels of IL-1, IL-6, iNOS and TNF-a, thereby promoting the repolarization of M2-like TAMs to M1-like TAMs.
Overall, it could be deduced that GLCP, CPCP and dCPP hold great potential as safe therapeutic options for melanoma and an immune-modulator which may require further exploration.

COPD is underdiagnosed and is projected to be the third cause of death in 2030. However, recent reviews do not recommend screening for COPD in the general population.
We conducted a prospective study to assess the feasibility of implementing COPD screening in a high-risk COPD population, with the help of various healthcare professionals (General practitioners, pharmacists, dentists, physiotherapists, and nurses). Participants filled out a questionnaire, performed a spirometry (COPD6™) and counselling was performed, including smoking cessation and chest physician referral. Participants were contacted at two months to evaluate the effect of the intervention.
Between April 7th, 2017 and July 30th, 2018, 157 participants filled out the questionnaires, performed spirometry and were contacted at two months. Thirty-five out of 157 (22% [95% CI, 15.8-28.8]) participants were detected with an airflow obstruction (FEV1/FEV6 < 0.7), using COPD6™ device. At the two-month-contact, 68 participants (43%, [95%CI 35.5-51.1]) were engaged in a smoking cessation program and 22 (14% [95 % CI, 8.6-19.4]) reported having quit smoking.
This pilot study suggested that a predefined screening of COPD by different healthcare professionals could be implemented in primary care and might be part of counselling for smoking cessation (NCT03104348 on ClinicalTrials.gov).

The aim of this survey was to investigate variations of drugs for obstructive airway diseases delivery rates and refunds at a national level which are rarely reported.
The French national health data system (56 million, 87% of the population) was used to identify insurance beneficiaries with at least one drug delivery (Anatomical Therapeutic Classification R03) per year between 2012 and 2017.
At least one drug delivery in 2017 was identified for 7.5 million people (12.9%). High proportions of people with at least one, two or three drug deliveries were observed between the ages of 0 to 2 years (22%, 10%, 5.5%), then decreased between the ages of 18 and 40 years (9.3%, 3.8%, 2.3%) and increased again in people 75 years and older (17.8%, 11.9% 9.9%), with strong variations between years. In 2017, the proportions of people with at least one delivery, either alone or in combination with other drugs, were 68% for inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) (median 1; IQR 1-4), 59% for short-acting beta2-agonists (SABA) (1;riations over several years are not taken into account.
The widespread and frequent use of mobile technology among adolescents, including sexual minority adolescents, presents an opportunity for the development of mobile health (mHealth) technology to combat the continuing HIV epidemic among young men who have sex with men (YMSM). We analyzed perceptions of the quality and impact of an HIV prevention mobile app on sexual risk reduction among YMSM.
Participants were recruited from a larger randomized controlled trial of the MyPEEPS Mobile app among YMSM aged 13-18 years. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews to assess quality and user satisfaction with MyPEEPS Mobile app using analysis informed by the Information Systems Success framework. Interview data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using six themes information quality, net benefit, user satisfaction, product quality, service quality, and health care barriers.
Interviews were conducted with 40 YMSM (45% Hispanic; 80% non-White; 88% non-rural resident; 28% aged 17years). Participants' re prevention tool that may improve HIV prevention skills and reduce HIV risk among YMSM.
The MyPEEPS Mobile app is a well received, functional, and entertaining mHealth HIV prevention tool that may improve HIV prevention skills and reduce HIV risk among YMSM.We have previously argued that historical cases must be rendered canonical before they can plausibly serve as evidence for philosophical claims, where canonicity is established through a process of negotiation among historians and philosophers of science (Bolinska and Martin, 2020). Here, we extend this proposal by exploring how that negotiation might take place in practice. The working stock of historical examples that philosophers tend to employ has long been established informally, and, as a result, somewhat haphazardly. The composition of the historical canon of philosophy of science is therefore path dependent, and cases often become stock examples for reasons tangential to their appropriateness for the purposes at hand. We show how the lack of rigor around the canonization of case studies has muddied the waters in selected philosophical debates. This, in turn, lays the groundwork for proposing ways in which they can be improved. The new European regulation on minimum quality requirements (MQR) for water reuse (EU, 2020/741) was launched in May 2020 and describes the directives for the use of reclaimed water for agricultural irrigation. This Regulation will be directly applicable in all Member States from 26 June 2023. Since its publication in 2020, concerns have raised about potential non-compliance situations in water reuse systems. The present study represents a case study where three different water reuse systems have been monitored to establish their compliance with the MQR. Each water reuse system includes a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), a distribution/storage system and an end-user point, where water is used for irrigation of leafy greens. The selected water reuse systems allowed us to compare the efficacy of water treatments implemented in two WWTPs as well as the impact of three different irrigation systems (drip, furrow and overhead irrigation). The presence and concentration of indicator microorganisms (Escherichia colts were observed among the samples taken at the irrigation point, which were linked to a specific cross-contamination event within the distribution/storage system. Regarding pathogenic bacteria, water samples from the influent of the WWTPs showed a 100% prevalence, while only 5% of the effluent samples were positive for any of the monitored pathogenic bacteria. Obtained results indicate that reclaimed water produced in the selected water reuse system is suitable to be used as irrigation water. However, efforts are necessary not only in the establishment of advance disinfection treatments but also in the maintenance of the distribution/storage systems.
1,8-Cineole (1,8-CIN) is a monoterpene found in diverse dietary and medicinal herbs that has been reported to be effective against cardiovascular diseases.
The present research was designed to elucidate the treatment effects and the underlying mechanism of 1,8-CIN on heart failure (HF).
An in vitro cardiac hypertrophy model and an in vivo heart failure (HF) model induced by isoprenaline (ISO) were established and treated with or without 1,8-CIN. In vitro miR-206-3p mimic or inhibitors were created. MiR-206-3p, SERP1 and related mRNAs or proteins were detected using qPCR or western blotting. Cell viability was tested by MTT assay, and apoptosis was measured using TUNEL assay, AO/EB assay and flow cytometry. Actin was stained with FITC-phalloidin. MiR-206-3p and related mRNAs or proteins in cardiac muscle tissues were measured using qPCR or western blotting, HE staining, Masson staining.
ISO subcutaneous injection increased cardiac hypertrophy, cytoplasmic vacuole formation, myofiber loss and fibrosis and decreased cardiomyocyte viability. 1,8-CIN treatment improved cardiomyocyte viability and reduced cardiac hypertrophy, cytoplasmic vacuole formation, myofibre loss and fibrosis. We found that 1,8-CIN attenuated apoptosis. We observed that expression of miR-206-3p was dramatically increased in ISO-exposed cardiomyocytes or ISO-treated rat hearts. MiR-206-3p was identified to target the 3'UTR of SERP1, resulting in the accumulation of un- or misfolded proteins, leading to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress.
These results suggest that 1,8-CIN reduces the apoptosis induced by ER stress through inhibiting miR-206-3p, which inhibits the expression of SERP1.

Aloe vera is a functional food with various pharmacological functions, including an immune-modulating effect. Until now, A. vera has never been studied as an adjuvant in influenza vaccine, and its effects on upper respiratory tract infection (URI) are unknown.
The objective of our study was to investigate the effect of processed A. vera gel (PAG) on immunogenicity of quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine and URI in healthy adults.
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was performed.
This study was conducted in 100 healthy adults at a single center from September 2017 to May 2018. Subjects were randomly divided into a PAG group (n=50) and a placebo group (n=50). The enrolled subjects were instructed to ingest the study drug for 8 weeks. The participants received a single dose of quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine after taking the study drug for the first 4 weeks of the study. The primary endpoint was seroprotection rate against at least one viral strain at 4 weeks p (odds ratio 0.57; 95% CI, 0.39-0.83; p=0.003) in the PAG group.
Oral intake of PAG did not show a significant increase in seroprotection rate from an immunogenicity perspective. However, it reduced the number of URI episodes. A well-designed further study is needed on the effect of PAG's antibody response against A/H3N2 in the future.

Demethyleneberberine (DMB) is a natural active component ofmedicinalplantCortex phellodendri chinensis with favorable bioactivity. However, the role of DMB in suppressing non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains unknown.
In this study, we aimed to examine the effect and underlying mechanism of DMB in suppressing NSCLC.
CCK8 assay and colony formation assay were utilized to assess the efficiency of DMB on the viability and colony formation capacity of NSCLC cells. Flow cytometry and β-Galactosidase Staining Kit were utilized to determine the efficiency of DMB on the cell cycle and cellular senescence of NSCLC cells. ALK inhibitor drugs RT-qPCR and Western blot were used to detect the effect of DMB on cell cycle and cellular senescence related gene and protein expression of NSCLC cells. In vivo tumor model was established to evaluate the anti NSCLC effect of DMB. In addition, RNA-seq analysis was performed to detect the differential gene expression after DMB treatments.
In this study, we revealed that DMB exhibits efficient inhibitory effect on NSCLC cell proliferation and tumor xenografts growth in vivo.
