To describe Otolaryngologists' perspective in managing COVID-19 patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) requiring tracheostomy in the ICUs during the pandemic peak in a dramatic scenario with limited resources.

Tertiary referral university hospital, regional hub in northern Italy during SARS CoV 2 pandemic peak (March 9th to April 10th, 2020).

Technical description of open bedside tracheostomies performed in ICUs on COVID-19 patients during pandemic peak with particular focus on resource allocation and healthcare professionals coordination. A dedicated "airway team" was created in order to avoid transportation of critically ill patients and reduce facility contamination.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, bedside minimally invasive tracheostomy in the ICU was selected by the Authors over conventional surgical technique or percutaneous procedures for both technical and operational reasons. Otolaryngologists' experience derived from direct involvement in 24 tracheostomies is reported.

Tracheostomies on COVID-19 patients should be performed in a safe and standardized setting. The limited resources available in the pandemic peak required meticulous organization and optimal allocation of the resources to grant safety of both patients and healthcare workers.

The aim of the study wat to analyze the antibiotic susceptibility of the pathogens causing urinary tract infection (UTI) and to stratify the results in function of patient´s clinical and demographic dates.

The susceptibility of the pathogens isolated in the urine of 144 patients with UTI randomly chosen was analyzed. The results were stratified in function of sex, age, type of UTI, previous UTI and previous antibiotic treatment.

The susceptibility of the all isolates and of the Escherichia coli isolates was analyzed. There were significant differences between groups in function of sex (fluoroquinolones), age (cefuroxime, ertapenem and gentamicin), type of UTI (cefuroxime, cefotaxime, ertapenem and fluoroquinolones), previous UTI and previous antibiotic treatment (cefotaxime, fluoroquinolones and fosfomycin).

The use of clinical and demographic data according to population and local resistance epidemiology of the pathogen causing UTI may help to select an adequate empirical treatment for UTI.

Currently, there is no ophthalmologic procedure or drug that prevents the clinical features of OCA. Here, we report a new type of OCA in two, unrelated Korean families with the same OCA2 mutation. Affected individuals in this study are different from those of previous reports in two aspects an inheritance pattern and clinical presentation. All reported patients with OCA have shown an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern, while our patients showed an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern. Small amounts of pigment can be acquired with age in OCA, but there is no substantial variation from adolescence to adulthood in this regard. A case where the patient attained normal pigmentation levels has never been reported. However, our patients displayed completely normal pigmentation in their late twenties. Whole exome sequencing and in-silico analysis revealed a novel mutation, OCA2 c.2338G>A p.(G780S) (NM_000275) with a high likelihood of pathogenicity. Sanger sequencing of p.G780S identified the same mutation in the affected individuals, which was not found in the family members with normal phenotype. We hypothesize that OCA2 G780S not only acts as a pathogenic variant of OCA but also induces pigmentation by enhancing the melanogenesis gene expression of other modifier genes, such as SLC45A2 and TPC2. These findings may provide further understanding of melanin biosynthesis and new treatment methods for OCA.In recent years, with the development of the high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) screening program for lung cancer, the multifocal ground-glass nodule (GGN) has been discovered more and more. Because there are still many uncertainties in the diagnosis and treatment of multifocal GGN in lung, this paper reviews the clinical concerns such as the follow-up interval and time, the relationship between main focus and other focuses, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of residual nodules. In recent years, the research of spatiotemporal clustering of disease is attracting more and more attention, which plays an important role in understanding the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of diseases, and can provide references for the etiology exploration and prevention and control of diseases. Geneticin In order to better understand the research methods of spatiotemporal clustering of diseases and its application progress, this paper summarizes the statistical methods commonly used in relevant researches at demestic and abroad from three aspects of temporal clustering, spatial clustering and spatiotemporal clustering of diseases. The composition of human oral microorganism is numerous and complex and is easily affected by many factors. With the development of metagenomic technology, the important role of oral microbiome in the development of tumor has attracted extensive attention. A literature retrieval was conducted through PubMed, Embase, CNKI and WanFang database for an analysis on the characteristics of oral bacteria and its association with oral cancer, esophageal cancer and gastric cancer. The results indicated that oral microbiome can be influenced by age, gender, race, and lifestyle. Specific oral bacteria were associated with high risk of upper gastrointestinal cancer, indicating a potential role of oral microbiota to be the biomarker for upper gastrointestinal cancer. This paper summarizes the progress in the research of the association between oral microbiome and upper gastrointestinal cancer, showing a new direction for the exploration of microbiological etiology of upper gastrointestinal cancer and providing scientific evidence for the optimization of early detection and treatment of upper gastrointestinal cancer.
