Disparities in cancer care have not been well documented for individuals with disability.

To investigate potential disparities in the diagnosis, treatment, and survival of prostate cancer (PC) patients according to disability status.

A retrospective cohort study using disability registration data linked to Korean National Health Insurance and national cancer registry data. SKF96365 molecular weight Totals of 7924 prostate cancer cases among patients with disabilities (diagnosed between 2005 and 2013) and 34,188PC patients without disability were included.

While overall PC stage distribution at diagnosis was similar, unknown stage was more common in patients with severe disabilities compared to those without disabilities (18.1% vs. 16.2%, respectively). People with disabilities were less likely to undergo surgery (33.1% vs. 38.6%, respectively; adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 0.79, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.74-0.84), and more likely to receive androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) (57.9% vs. 55%, respectively; aOR 1.10, 95% CI 1.04-1.16) compared to those without disabilities. This was more evident for people with severe brain/mental impairment (aORs 0.29 for surgery; 1.52 for ADT). Patients with disabilities had higher overall mortality (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 1.20; 95% CI, 1.15-1.25), but only slightly higher PC-specific mortality after adjustment for patient factors and treatment (aHR 1.11, 95% CI 1.04-1.18) than people without disability.

PC patients with disabilities underwent less staging work-up and were more likely to receive ADT than surgical treatment. Overall mortality of PC patients with disabilities was greater than those of PC patients without disability, but PC-specific mortality was only slightly worse.

Most guidelines recommend induction therapy followed by autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation. A Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results-Medicare database analysis from 2000 to 2011 noted a lower use of HCT and bortezomib among Black patients, despite adjusting for care barriers, and this practice was associated with a poorer outcome. The goal of this study was to evaluate patterns of acceptance of HCT as consolidative therapy for MM.

Cox proportional hazards model was used to investigate the association between the survival time of the patients (overall survival) and age of the diagnosis, race, socioeconomic status, disease cytogenetic, and initial induction regimens. A total of 194 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of MM who were referred for HCT between January 1, 2009, and June 30, 2019, were included in this study. Patients who received autologous stem cell transplant for relapsed MM were excluded.

We found that income category was not significantly associated with overall survival, time to transplant or transplant-/relapse-related mortality. High-risk cytogenetic was significantly associated with shorter overall survival, higher transplant-related mortality and relapse-related mortality (P < .002). The use of aggressive induction choices was associated with poorer transplant outcomes (P = .02). Time to transplant tended to be shorter in African American compared with other ethnic groups (P = .07).

There was no significant difference in the use rate of the HCT between Caucasians and AA patients with MM. Further comparative studies of MM induction therapy and access to clinical trials in African Americans and other racial minorities are warranted.

We identified 40 patients diagnosed with PTLD between 2009 and 2020 and analyzed their presentation, treatment strategies, and outcomes. Median age at diagnosis was 52.5 years (range 21.3 to 79). Median duration of immunosuppression was 95 months (range 4 to 292). Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (n = 16, 40%) and Burkitt lymphoma (n = 6, 15%) were the most common histological subtypes. First-line therapy varied. The median number of treatment lines was 1 (range 0 to 4). Sixteen patients (40%) achieved complete response after first-line therapy. Nineteen patients (47.5%) relapsed or progressed and received salvage therapy; 45% were alive at the end of the study period (median survival 52 months; range 1 to 266; 95% confidence interval 0 to 104). Causes of death included lymphoma-related (45.5%), therapy-related (27.3%), and other (27.3%). Five (22.7%) died within 3 months of diagnosis. Pearson's r test identified disease stage (P = .045) and proliferation index (P = .005) as negative predictors of response to frontline therapy. Bone marrow involvement (P = .033) and increased age (P = .018) were significant predictors of survival. Early mortality and poor response to frontline therapy are common, outlining the need for improved treatment strategies.

There is a lack of knowledge regarding pycnodysostosis (PYCD), which is commonly misdiagnosed as other, similar malformations. This study aims to report a patient with PYCD and conjointly present a comprehensive literature review regarding oral complications after oral surgery procedures.

This study aims to report a noteworthy case of a 40-year-old woman with PYCD who suffered from a midface defect after iatrogenic fracture during extraction of the upper right molars. A comprehensive electronic search was carried out in January 2020 for detection and analysis of the most commonly encountered dentoalveolar PYCD-related complications. The study was granted an exemption from the local institutional review board.

The electronic search yielded 35 articles reporting 41 PYCD cases with 62 various reported dentoalveolar complications. The survey reported a prevalence of osteomyelitis (n=39) followed by pathologic fracture (n=17), iatrogenic fracture (n=5), and oronasal communication (n=1).

This study advocates handling patients with PYCD with care through the use of extensive clinical and radiographic examinations, giving priority to any conservative treatment modalities, atraumatic surgical procedures, prophylactic antibiotic prescriptions, and a regular follow-up schedule to tackle any anticipated complications.
