Background The safety of laser therapy in patients taking isotretinoin is controversial. Recent evidence suggests that laser during isotretinoin treatment is safe. Our study aims to assess public perception and willingness to undergo laser intervention while receiving isotretinoin. Methods An online-based cross-sectional survey was conducted between November 2019 and March 2020. Information on participants knowledge about isotretinoin precautions with laser therapy and their willingness to undergo laser intervention while on isotretinoin therapy was collected. Results Out of 509 respondents, almost one-third used laser therapy while on isotretinoin treatment. Those who did not use laser therapy most commonly attributed to isotretinoin treatment (43%). BLU9931 mw Forty-two percent of participants thought that laser therapy while on isotretinoin is harmful. Almost half of the participants were aware that current guidelines recommend waiting for six months after isotretinoin. Nearly, half of the participants decided to postpone laser therapy for acne scars even after knowing that recent studies reported the safety of laser therapy for acne scars while on isotretinoin. Conclusion Even with the knowledge of recent safety data of laser during isotretinoin therapy, a significant proportion of patients are still concerned about potential complications. Increasing awareness regarding the safety of laser skin therapy during isotretinoin treatment might be needed. Objectives Bisphenol A (BPA) has been mentioned as a possible factor contributing to feline hyperthyroidism. Nevertheless, there are no previous studies reporting on the concentration of BPA in feline serum and its association with thyroid function. The objectives of this study were to measure serum BPA concentration in cats aged ⩾7 years, considered as healthy by their owners, and to compare the results with clinicopathological findings. Methods Sixty-nine cats aged ⩾7 years considered as healthy by their owners were enrolled in the study. The concentration of BPA in feline serum was measured using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. In all cats, signalment, living environment, diet history, and the results of haematological and biochemical analysis, including thyroxine levels, were available. Results The mean serum BPA concentration in feline serum was 1.06 ± 0.908 ng/ml. Significant correlation was found between BPA concentration and haemoglobin (r = 0.3397; P = 0.0043), haematocrit (r = 0.3245e needed that focus on hyperthyroid cats for better evaluation of this relationship. Objectives The aim of this study was to determine if cats fed from a commercially advertised whisker-friendly dish vs their normal food dish would spend more time at the food dish, eat more and drop less food. Methods Forty indoor cats were enrolled in the study. Owners fasted their cats for 12 h and fed them their normal measured amount of dry food in their normal dish. Owners filmed their cats eating for up to 5 mins, and measured how much food was eaten and dropped from the dish. Owners then switched to feeding their cats from a whisker-friendly dish for a 7-day transition period. Following this transition, owners were instructed to fast their cats for 12 h and then feed them their normal food from the new dish and film them eating, as previously described. The following day the owners offered food in both dishes to determine their cat's preference. Results No evidence was found that eating from the whisker-friendly dish increased the amount of time spent eating (P = 0.8), decreased the amount of food dropped (P = 0.9) or increased the amount of food eaten (P = 0.7). The estimated probability for the cats to prefer the whisker-friendly dish was 0.74 with a 95% confidence interval. Conclusions and relevance Cats fed from a whisker-friendly dish did not spend more time eating, drop less food or eat more food in a 5-min period. Some cats appeared to prefer the new whisker-friendly dish over their normal food dish. Overall, food dish-associated whisker stress did not affect the eating habits of the study cats.Pharmaceutical companies engage heavily in promoting their products worldwide, and India is no exception. This article begins with an analysis of the therapeutic value of medications on the Indian market because, by definition, if a drug has no therapeutic value or has a negative benefit-to-harm ratio, then any promotion of that drug is inappropriate. It then examines 2 Indian case studies drug promotion in Mumbai and the misuse of the World Health Organization logo in promotion. Next it describes specific types of promotion advertisements in medical journals, brochures, and pamphlets; the actions of sales representatives; and the content of continuing medical education courses and medical conferences. The next sections examine medical students' and trainees' exposure to promotion and their attitudes about promotion; the attitudes of doctors about their interactions with the pharmaceutical industry; and whether promotion has an influence on prescribing. The article concludes with a critique of the existing industry, professional, and government regulatory regimes in India.Context Danggui Buxue Tang (DBT), one of the popular Danggui (DG) decoctions, has traditionally been used to nourish 'qi' (vital energy) and enrich 'blood' (body circulation). DBT may possess performance-enhancing effects. Objective This work determines whether DBT can improve physical capacity and alter energy expenditure under exercise training.Materials and methods Forty male Wistar rats were assigned to four groups sedentary (SE), exercise training (ET), ET supplemented with 0.3 g/kg rat/d DG extract, and ET supplemented with 1.8 g/kg rat/d DBT extract. The supplementations were administered via oral gavage. During the 21-day treatment period, the exercised groups were subjected to a protocol of swimming training with a gradually increased load. Physical performance evaluation was assessed using the forelimb grip strength test and an exhaustive swimming test. Muscle glycogen contents and exercise-related biochemical parameters were analysed. Results Both herbal supplementations remarkably increased the grip strength (DG by 49.7% and DBT by 85.7%) and prolonged the swimming time (DG by 48.4% and DBT by 72.7%) compared with SE. DBT spared a certain amount of glycogen in the muscle cells under exercise training. Regarding the regulation of fuel usage, DBT had a positive impact alongside ET on promoting aerobic glycolysis via significantly decreasing serum lactate by 31.6% and lactic dehydrogenase levels by 61.8%.Conclusions This study found that DBT could be considered a promising sports ergogenic aid for athletic population or fitness enthusiasts. Future work focussing on isolating the bioactive components that truly provide the ergogenic effects would be of interest.Introduction Metabolomics is an emerging approach providing new insights into the metabolic changes and underlying mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of neurological disorders. Areas covered Here, the authors present an overview of the current knowledge of metabolic profiling (metabolomics) to provide critical insight on the role of biochemical markers and metabolic alterations in neurological diseases. Expert opinion Elucidation of characteristic metabolic alterations in neurological disorders is crucial for a better understanding of their pathogenesis, and for identifying potential biomarkers and drug targets. Nevertheless, discrepancies in diagnostic criteria, sample handling protocols, and analytical methods still affect the generalizability of current study results. Background In contemporary society internet and digital competencies are used to perform activities.Aim The aim of this study is to investigate opportunities and risks of internet use as perceived by the parents of adolescents with intellectual disabilities (ID) in comparison with a national reference group of parents of adolescents. Methods This was a cross-sectional study with group comparisons using a national survey. Analyses were carried out using Fisher's exact test and logistic regression to control for confounding factors. Results A significantly higher proportion of parents of adolescents with ID perceive opportunities associated with internet use and playing games, and a lower proportion perceive risks with negative consequences, compared with the reference group. Significantly more parents of adolescents with ID perceive their adolescent never use smartphones and social media compared with the reference group. Fewer parents of adolescents with ID have concerns about online risks for their adolescents compared with the reference group. Conclusion and Significance The results provide new knowledge for occupational therapists to support positive risk-taking in internet-use for adolescents with ID, in collaboration with their parents, to enable the development of digital competencies and digital participation in everyday life in a digitalised society.Purpose To describe the role of intuition for maternity care workers in deciding when a cesarean section should be advised during labor.Material and methods Focus group discussions with midwives and gynecologists, and nonparticipating observation at an obstetric ward. Results The decision about when to propose a cesarean section during labor is the result of interaction between objective and intuitive factors. Junior delivery ward workers report that they use more analytic reasoning for objective diagnosis of fetal distress, non-progressive labor, macrosomia or other indications for cesarean section; with increasing experience, however, non-analytic reasoning takes the overhand. Both consciously and unconsciously, other activities going on outside the individual delivery room seem to influence the decision. Out of the 50 deliveries observed, 38 births occurred through vaginal deliveries and 12 through cesarean sections. Maternity care workers clearly have "gut feelings" that the course of labor is moving toward a cesarean section. We were unable to detect any predictable pattern in the transition from gut feeling to decision. Conclusion Intuition plays a still not completely uncovered role in the decision to advise cesarean section during labor. The level of consciousness at which professionals use intuition or gut feeling and are aware of it in decision making is variable. Intuition or gut feelings seem to contribute more to the decision process as the level of experience increases. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the rhythmic movements or cues enhance the anticipatory postural adjustment (APA) of gait initiation. Healthy humans initiated gait in response to an auditory start cue (third cue). A first auditory cue was given 8 s before the start cue, and a second auditory cue was given 3 s before the start cue. The participants performed the rhythmic medio-lateral weight shift (ML-WS session), rhythmic anterior-posterior weight shift (AP-WS session), or rhythmic arm swing (arm swing session) in the time between the first and second cues. In the rhythmic cues session, rhythmic auditory cues with a frequency of 1 Hz were given in this time. In the stationary session, the participants maintained stationary stance in this time. The APA and initial step movement preceded by those rhythmic movements or cues were compared with those in the stationary session. The temporal characteristics of the initial step movement of the gait initiation were not changed by the rhythmic movements or cues.
