To retrospectively analyze the clinical data of patients with pineal region meningioma. All the patients underwent combined endoscopic and microsurgical procedure by modified Poppen approach (double-scopic technique) between January 2018 and March 2021 in the Department of Neurosurgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University. A total tumor resection was achieved in all the patients without deaths. All the pineal region meningiomas were pathologically confirmed. During the follow-up period, none of the 10 patients experienced tumor progression, and 4 of patients were treated by radiotherapy after surgery. The external ventricular drainage was performed in 8 cases intraoperatively, and no case underwent the ventriculoperitoneal shunt during the follow-up period. The clinical symptoms of 9 cases were improved,1 case had no improvement, and no patients presented deteriorated symptoms. Combined endoscopic and microsurgical surgery resection of pineal region meningiomas by modified Poppen approach helped the surgeons directly observe the cerebral deep vein systems in pineal region with endoscope and significantly enhance the total resection rate of pineal region meningiomas, thereby decreasing the damage of cerebral deep vein systems in pineal region and reducing the incidence of surgical complications. Objective To systematically evaluate the effects of statins on the mortality and neurologic function prognosis in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Methods The PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, the Cochrane Clinical Controlled Trial Center Registry Database, Chinese Journal Full-text Database (CNKI), and WanFang database up to 2021.1 were searched to obtain clinical randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and retrospective cohort studies of statins in the treatment of TBI. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were used to screen literature and extract data. Ottawa scale and the RCT bias risk assessment tool was used for quality evaluation. Comprehensive Meta Analysis V3 statistical software for meta-analysis was applied. Results Thirteen studies were included, with a total of 116, 500 patients, including 46, 933 patients using statins in the intervention group and 69, 567 patients in the control group. Meta-analysis results showed that compared with the control group, statins can reduce the mortality of TBI patients (OR=0.82, 95%CI 0.74-0.92, P less then 0.01), significantly improve the neurologic outcomes of TBI patients (OR=0.19, 95%CI 0.13-0.26, P less then 0.01), and reduce the levels of TNF-α and IL-1β after TBI (TNF-α OR=0.16, 95%CI 0.07-0.34, P less then 0.01; IL-1β OR=0.08, 95%CI 0.04-0.18, P less then 0.01), with statistically significant differences. Conclusion Statins can reduce the mortality of patients with TBI and improve the neurologic outcomes. Their reduction of inflammation in the body may be the basis of potential treatment, but more high-quality RCTs are still warranted. To study the failure alarm information displayed on the automatic coagulation analyzer (coagulation method) of thrombin time (TT), and formulate the coping strategies combined with clinical information. Methods A total of 233 failed TT blood samples [132 males, 101 females, with a median age of 73 (66, 79) years] were selected from 21 359 inpatients in Peking University First Hospital from January to June 2021. The statistical analysis was made and the failure causes and solutions were summarized according to the coagulation curve and the error codes displayed on the coagulation instrument, in combination with the clinical information, sample characteristics, medication status and other reasons. Meanwhile, a total of 96 TT detection failed lipid blood samples [56 males, 40 females, with a median age of 72 (65, 79) years] were analyzed from the inpatients in Peking University First Hospital from July to November 2021. TT results were obtained by artificial coagulation curve interpretation method, magnetic beadation method, high-speed centrifugation method and magnetic bead method. Objective To analyze and compare the clinical efficacy of unilateral biportal endoscopic(UBE) decompression and extended interlaminar fenestration for lumbar lateral recess stenosis. Methods A retrospective analysis of 103 patients treated with UBE decompression or extended interlaminar fenestration for lumbar lateral recess stenosis from July 2017 to June 2020 in the Second Hospital of Anhui Medical University was performed. Eighty patients aged 40 to 86 (63.2±9.8) years were included in this study, including 42 males and 38 females. Forty patients received UBE decompression (UBE group) and 40 patients received extended interlaminar fenestration (fenestration group). Operative time, length of incision, hospital stay and complications were recorded. selleck compound The visual analogue scale (VAS) scores of low back pain and leg pain and Oswestry dysfunction index (ODI) scores were recorded preoperatively and at 1, 3 and 6 months after the operation and at the final follow-up, and the modified Macnab scale was used to evaluatnot statistically significant between the two groups (P=0.745). Conclusion Compared with the extended interlaminar fenestration, UBE technique can not only reduce the early postoperative low back pain, shorten hospital stay, but also achieve the same long-term clinical efficacy with less trauma. Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of selective genicular artery embolization for the treatment of the knee pain secondary to osteoarthritis. Methods From October 2020 to July 2021, 17 patients (23 knees) aged (68±7) years with moderate to severe knee pain secondary to knee osteoarthritis were prospectively included in the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University. There were 6 males and 11 females included in this research. Patients were assessed with knee pain, stiffness, and function with the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) at baseline, using the Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) grading to evaluate the severity of KOA, and using the Magnetic Resonance Knee Osteoarthritis Score (MOAKS) to evaluate the MR imaging characteristics of the affected knee. Selective genicular artery embolization (GAE) was performed in all patients. The patients were followed up for 6 months after the procedure. Patients were assessed with the VAS scortery puncture area, 4 cases had knee joint stiffness and pain within 1 day after operation, which were relieved spontaneously in 1 week, 6 patients had joint clicking during extension and flexion activities after operation, of which 3 cases subsided spontaneously within 3 months after operation. None of the patients had major procedure-related adverse events. Conclusion GAE has a high clinical improvement rate and a low incidence of adverse reactions in the treatment of the pain secondary to knee osteoarthritis, which provides a new treatment option for patients who fail to respond to conservative treatment. Objective To detect the expression of Bmi-1 in oral leukoplakia (OL) cells and tissues, and analyze its role and clinical significance in the malignant transformation of OL. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to evaluate Bmi-1 expression in OL samples from 109 patients (51 males, 58 females, age range 18-74 years) who were treated in the Department of Stomatology, the Affiliated Wuxi People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University and the Center of Stomatology, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, between 1996 and 2018. The correlation between Bmi-1 expression level and clinicopathological parameters and prognosis in patients with OL was analyzed. The mRNA and protein expression levels of Bmi-1 gene in normal oral mucosal epithelial cells, OL cells, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cells, OL tissues and paired adjacent normal tissues were detected by real-time PCR and Western blotting. The effects of Bmi-1 on the proliferation, colony formation and apopber of clone formation (824±40 vs 414±38, P=0.002) and apoptosis rate (17.7%±2.3% vs 36.0%±2.0%, P=0.004). Conclusions The up-regulation of Bmi-1 expression promotes the malignant biological behavior of OL cells. Bmi-1 expression can be used as a predictor for malignant transformation of OL.Objective To evaluate the value of color Doppler ultrasound and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in evaluating the level of carotid bifurcation and the morphology of extracranial internal carotid artery in patients with atherosclerotic carotid stenosis. Methods The carotid artery examination data of 186 patients with atherosclerotic carotid stenosis who underwent carotid DSA and color Doppler ultrasound in Shanghai Changzheng Hospital from July 2017 to June 2019 were retrospectively analyzed, including 154 males and 32 females, with ages ranging from 36 to 84 (66±8) years old. The correlation between the position of carotid bifurcation and the level of cervical spine, the distance from the position of carotid bifurcation to mandibular angle, the correlation of the level of bifurcation with the length of neck, and the incidence of carotid distortion were analyzed. Results DSA showed that the most common position of carotid bifurcation was at C3 level on the left [37.3% (56/150)], and at C3-C4 level on thecidence of carotid artery distortion was 28.1% (9/32) in women and 15.6% (24/154) in men, with no significant difference (P = 0.091). The incidence of right carotid artery distortion in high bifurcation group was 59.3% (16/27), which was higher than that in non-high bifurcation group [3.1% (3/98)] (P less then 0.001). Likewise, the incidence of left carotid artery distortion in high bifurcation group was 30.4% (21/69), which was higher than that in non-high bifurcation group [2.5% (2/81)] (P less then 0.001). Conclusions The bifurcation position of left carotid artery in patients with atherosclerotic carotid stenosis is higher than that of the right. Patients with high bifurcation of carotid artery are more likely to be complicated with carotid distortion. Preoperative color doppler ultrasound combined with DSA can evaluate the distortion of extracranial carotid artery, thereby providing reference for the selection of surgical methods. Objective To explore the relationship between white matter lesions and clinical features and response of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) tap test in patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus(iNPH). Methods Possible iNPH patients were enrolled from outpatients and inpatients in Peking Union Medical College Hospital between 2014 and 2019. All patients underwent detailed neuropsychological and walking assessments, CSF tap test, as well as head magnetic resonance imaging. The Fazekas score of white matter lesions, the fractional anisotropy (FA)and mean diffusivity (MD) values of regions of interest by means ofdiffusion tensor imaging (DTI) were compared between CSF tap test positive and negative response groups. The correlation between DTI parameters and clinical characteristics was analyzed. Results Forty-three patients (29 male and 14 female, age range 52-79 years] wererecruited.Compared with the negative group, patients in the positive group tended to have higher Fazekas score of periventricular white matter(U=108.
