A better understanding of PDAC risk factors is essential for the identification of groups at high risk in the population. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been a powerful tool for detecting genetic variants associated with complex traits, including pancreatic cancer. By exploiting functional and GWAS data, we investigated the associations between polymorphisms affecting gene function in the pancreas (expression quantitative trait loci, eQTLs) and PDAC risk. In a two-phase approach, we analysed 13 713 PDAC cases and 43 784 controls and identified a genome-wide significant association between the A allele of the rs2035875 polymorphism and increased PDAC risk (P=7.14×10 -10). This allele is known to be associated with increased expression in the pancreas of the keratin genes KRT8 and KRT18, whose increased levels have been reported to correlate with various tumor cell characteristics. Additionally, the A allele of the rs789744 variant was associated with decreased risk of developing PDAC (P=3.56×10 -6). This SNP is situated in the SRGAP1 gene and the A allele is associated with higher expression of the gene, which in turn inactivates the cyclin-dependent protein 42 (CDC42) gene expression, thus decreasing the risk of PDAC. In conclusion, we present here a functional-based novel PDAC risk locus and an additional strong candidate supported by significant associations and plausible biological mechanisms.
IQOS, a tobacco heating system, and accompanying tobacco sticks (HEETS) entered the Israeli market in 2016, prior to rapid regulatory change. This study assessed IQOS marketing strategies and regulatory compliance at IQOS/HEETS point-of-sale (POS) in Israel in December 17, 2019-January 7, 2020, after the ban on advertisement went into effect in March 8, 2019.
Research staff audited 80 randomly-selected IQOS/HEETS POS in 4 cities using a structured form to assess store types, product placement, price, promotional strategies, and regulatory compliance. POS data was linked to neighbourhood characteristics, including socioeconomic status (SES), ethnicity, and proximity (under 300 meters) to schools.
Almost half of the stores (48.7%) were convenience stores. HEETS were visible to the customers in 46.1% of POS, 35% carried at least four HEETS colours, 20.0% had IQOS/HEETS special displays, and 13.8% displayed HEETS near youth-oriented merchandise. Mean HEETS pack price was 8.7 USD (range 7.5-11.3 USD), 27% moprimary marketing strategies may shift to online or other forms/channels as regulatory contexts become more progressive/restrictive. Ongoing surveillance of IQOS via online marketing and point-of-sales, specifically with regard to product placement and proximity to schools, is needed.

Conifers are key components of many temperate and boreal forests and are important for forestry, but species differences in stem growth responses to climate are still poorly understood and may hinder effective management of these forests in a warmer and drier future.
We studied 19 Northern Hemisphere conifer species planted in a 50-year-old common garden experiment in the Netherlands to 1) assess the effect of temporal dynamics in climate on stem growth; 2) test for a possible positive relationship between the growth potential and climatic growth sensitivity across species, and 3) evaluate to what extent stem growth is controlled by phylogeny.
Eighty-nine percent of the species showed a significant reduction in stem growth to summer drought, 37% responded negatively to spring frost, 32% responded positively to higher winter temperatures. Species differed largely in their growth sensitivity to climatic variation and showed for example, a 4-fold difference in growth reduction to summer drought. Remarkablyuctive species that are able to cope with a warmer and drier future.This article highlights key health issues, contemporary research topics, and opportunities for advancing aging research with sexual and gender minority (SGM) older adults, or individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, non-binary, or who exhibit attractions and behaviors that do not align with heterosexual or traditional gender norms. Using a life course perspective, we provide a sociohistorical context and highlight the social, psychological, and physical health, and healthcare experiences of SGM older adults in the U.S. Additionally, we present an overview of SGM aging research disseminated in the Journals of Gerontology Series B over the past five years. After reviewing these topics, we discuss limitations and gaps in the current research and provide recommendations for future research with SGM aging populations.
To compare retrobulbar hemodynamic measured by colour Doppler imaging (CDI) in patients with a different severity of glaucoma and to correlate variables CDI with the structural parameters of the retina and optic disc.
Of 89 eyes studied, 31 had preperimetric, 29 early, 12 moderate and 17 advanced glaucoma. Peak systolic velocity (PSV), end-diastolic velocity (EDV), resistance index (RI) in ophthalmic artery (OA), central retinal artery (CRA) and short posterior ciliary arteries (SPCAs) were evaluated by CDI and compared between study groups.
