ve impression management were included or measured independently. Our primary goal in this study was to examine the TBH addressing these limitations with a sample of those who self-identified as believers in the Muslim faith (N = 267), the examination of which expands the scope beyond those of the Christian-Judeo faith. Consistent with previous results, the mean L-r (MMPI/MMPI-2 L scale counterpart on the MMPI-2-Restructured Form) was 56.41 T. Higher L-r scale scores were associated with increasing strength in the Muslim faith, and although increasing L-r scores were primarily associated with impression management, increasing Muslim-based faith values had a nontrivial influence on L-r scores and especially in the moderate score range of this scale. Variations in the performance of radiologists reading mammographic images are well reported, but key parameters explaining such variations in different countries are not fully explored. The main aim of this study is to investigate performances of Chinese (Hong Kong SAR and Guangdong Province) and Australian radiologists in interpreting dense breast mammographic images.

A test set, contained 60 mammographic examinations with high breast density, was used to assess radiologists' performance. Twelve Chinese and thirteen Australian radiologists read all the cases independently and were asked to identify all lesions and provide a grade from 1 to 5 to each lesion. Case sensitivity, specificity, lesion sensitivity, AUC and JAFROC were used to assess radiologists' performances. Demographic information and reading experience were also collected from the readers. Performance scores were compared between the two populations and the relationships between performance scores and their reading experience were discovered.

For radiologists who were less than 40-year-old, lesion sensitivity, AUC and JAFROC were significantly lower in Chinese radiologists than those in Australian (52.10% vs 71.45%, p=0.043; 0.76 vs 0.84, p=0.031; 0.59 vs 0.72, p=0.045; respectively). Australian radiologists with less than 10 years of reading experience had higher AUC and JAFROC scores compared with their Chinese counterparts (0.83 vs 0.76, p=0.039; 0.70 vs 0.56, p=0.020, respectively).

We found that younger Australian radiologists performed better at reading dense breast cases which is likely to be linked to intensive fellowship training, immersion in a screening program and exposure to the benefits of a performance-measuring education tool.

Thalassemia is a common inherited hematological disease in tropical and subtropical regions. This study aimed to investigate the mutation spectrum of thalassemia in the Dongguan region of southern China and comprehensively analyze hematologic features of thalassemia carriers with various types of globin mutations.

A hematological screening including hematological indices such as mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin content (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) was conducted in 19442 people from Dongguan region, Guangdong province of China. Then, 4891 suspected thalassemia carriers were further investigated by genetic analysis of combined NGS and gap-PCR.

Totally, 2319 (11.9%) cases were diagnosed as carriers of thalassemia, of which 1483 cases (7.6%) were α-thalassemia, 741 cases (3.8%) were β-thalassemia, and 95 cases (0.5%) were co-inheritance of α- and β-thalassemia. In α-thalassemia carriers, the phenotypic severity increases with the number of nonfunctional α-globin genes. The patients with -

α genotype have less severe clinical phenotypes than those with other Hb H diseases. As for β-thalassemia, the MCV and MCH in both β

and β

carriers are markedly reduced.

This is the first comprehensive molecular epidemiological survey and hematological profiling of thalassemia in Dongguan area. This study will be benefit for genetic counseling in the clinic and may help pediatricians to make a correct diagnosis of different types of thalassemia.

Dehydration is a major problem in the older population with traumatic hip fractures (THF). A preoperative hemodynamic preconditioning (PHP) protocol may help in achieving hemodynamic stability to ensure adequate perfusion and oxygenation using only clinical parameters to assess cardiovascular performance.

A single-centre retrospective study in geriatric trauma patients was conducted in a Level 1 Trauma Centre in Switzerland. Patients over the age of 70 with THFs and with Portsmouth Physiological and Operative Severity Score for the enUmeration of Mortality (P-POSSUM) scores ≥ 5% who underwent surgical treatment between February 2015 and October 2017 were included. It was hypothesized that patients whose hemodynamic stability was optimised before surgery would have fewer complications and reduced mortality postoperatively. Primary outcomes were complications and mortality. Secondary outcomes were hospital length of stay (HLOS) and place of discharge.

100 patients were included in the PHP group and 79 patients were included in the non-PHP group. The median age was 86.5 (82-90) in the PHP group and 86 (82-90) in the non-PHP group. Patients who had been treated according to the PHP protocol showed a significant reduction in mortality at 30days (p = 0.02). The PHP group showed an 8.1 and 3.5% reduced mortality at 90days and at 1 year, respectively. The PHP group showed an 11.7% reduction of patients with complicated courses. No significant differences were seen in HLOS and discharge disposition.

The PHP group showed a significant reduction in short-term mortality, a reduction in long-term mortality, and a reduction in the number of patients with complicated courses. The PHP protocol is a safe, strictly regulated, non-invasive fluid resuscitation protocol for the optimization of geriatric patients with a THF that requires minimal effort.

They were prepared using a high-speed ultrasonic homogenizer. this website Specifically, nanoemulsions with 6 wt% lipid phase and 6 wt% non-ionic emulsifier (Tween 40) were produced and they demonstrated a droplet diameter >200 nm and high encapsulation stability during 30 days of storage at 4 °C or 25 °C. The incorporation of CLA or CoQ10 and polyphenolic compounds facilitated the homogenization of emulsions, reducing the droplet size and enhancing their chemical stability, and their bioactive retention values were >79%. O1/W/O2 nanoemulsions were produced using a mixture of non-ionic emulsifiers (Span 20 and Tween 40) and the O1/W enriched nanoemulsion as the dispersed phase. All multiple emulsions showed a bimodal droplet size distribution and Newtonian behavior while polyphenols facilitated their homogenization. Both vegetable oils resulted in samples with high kinetic and chemical stability; the bioactive retention values were found to be >80% at the end of 30 days of storage at 4 °C or 25 °C. Extra virgin olive oil resulted in more stable nanoemulsions in regards to kinetic and chemical stability at 4 °C, showing limited creaming and sedimentation boundary. Multiple nanoemulsions with the lowest initial droplet size presented the lowest droplet diameter growth and phase separation and the highest retention values. By comparing O1/W nanoemulsions and O1/W/O2 nanoemulsions, we noted that the reduction in the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity during storage was higher in the O1/W type. However, both delivery systems protected CLA and CoQ10 presenting high retention during storage. FTIR spectra before and after ultrasonic homogenization indicated that the sonication process did not significantly affect the lipid phase of O1/W/O2 nanoemulsions.Working memory (WM) is known to be impaired in patients with stroke experiencing unilateral spatial neglect (USN). Here, we examined in a systematic manner three WM components memory of object identity, memory of object location, and binding between object identity and location. Moreover, we used two different retention intervals to isolate maintenance from other mnemonic and perceptual processes. Fourteen USN first-event stroke patients with right-hemisphere damage were tested in two different WM experiments using long and short retention intervals and an analog response scale. Patients exhibited more identification errors for items displayed on the contralesional side. Localization errors were also more prominent in the contralesional side, especially after a long retention interval. These localization errors were often a result of swap errors, that is, erroneous localizations of correctly identified contralesional objects in correctly memorized locations of ipsilesional objects. We conclude that a key WM deficit in USN is a lateralized impairment in binding between the identity of an object and its spatial tag.In performing pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) for a patient with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), we encountered methemoglobinemia that was unmasked by hypothermia while on cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The patient on dapsone therapy for antiphospholipid antibody syndrome had developed acquired methemoglobinemia that went undiagnosed because her cyanosis was believed to be due to CTEPH and the resulting ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) mismatch. Although pharmacological triggers for methemoglobin are well known, causation by hypothermia is not described. Monitoring saturation while on CPB was challenging because of nonpulsatile blood flow but was overcome using cerebral oximetry.Cardiotoxicity is the main concern for long-term use of the doxorubicin (DOX). Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation leads to oxidative stress that significantly contributes to the cardiac damage induced by DOX. The nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor (Nrf2) acts as a protective player against DOX-induced myocardial oxidative stress. Several natural compounds (NCs) with anti-oxidative effects, were examined to suppress DOX cardiotoxicity such as asiatic acid, α-linolenic acid, apigenin, baicalein, β-lapachone, curdione, dioscin, ferulic acid, Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides, genistein, ginsenoside Rg3, indole-3-carbinol, naringenin-7-O-glucoside, neferine, p-coumaric acid, pristimerin, punicalagin, quercetin, sulforaphane, and tanshinone IIA. The present article, reviews NCs that showed protective effects against DOX-induced cardiac injury through induction of Nrf2 signaling pathway.
