To evaluate the prevalence of frailty and associated factors among community-dwelling older adults who have undergone total hip arthroplasty (THA).

This study, which employed a cross-sectional, observational design, was conducted between April and November 2020. The participants were older adults (⩾65 years) who had undergone primary THA at the study hospital. Based on Fried's modified phenotype, frailty was stratified into 3 degrees according to the presence of 3 or more of the following components weight loss, weakness, exhaustion, low activity level, and slow walking speed. Multinomial logistic regression was used to analyse the associations of frailty with its potential risk factors.

The data of 518 participants were analysed. The overall prevalence of frailty and prefrailty was 11.4% and 51.0%, respectively. The multinomial logistic regression analysis showed that calf circumference (odds ratio [OR] 0.716, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.611-0.839;

 < 0.001), fall history (OR 2.435, 95% CI, 1.114-5.322;

 = 0.026), hip abductor muscle strength (OR 0.962, 95% CI, 0.938-0.987;

To overcome AlP toxicity, exenatide has been studied in the present study due to its pleiotropic effects on cardiac damages. In this study, the rats were exposed to LD50 of AlP (10 mg/kg) by gavage, and exenatide at doses (0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 mg/kg) injected intraperitoneally 30 min after poisoning. The cardiac parameters including heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP), QRS, corrected QT (QTc), and ST were monitored for 180 min. Blood glucose level was measured in the study groups 30 min after exenatide injection. Evaluation of biochemical parameters including mitochondrial complexes I, II, and IV activities, adenosine diphosphate (ADP)/adenosine triphosphate (ATP) ratio, malondialdehyde (MDA), apoptosis, lactate, troponin I, and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) was done on heart tissues after 12 and 24 h. Additionally, the tissues were analyzed for any pathological damages including necrosis, hemorrhage, or hyperemia 24 h post-treatment. Our results showed that AlP-induced HR, BP, and electrocardiographic changes were improved by exenatide at all doses. The blood glucose levels of poisoned animals reached control levels after exenatide treatment. Besides, treatment with exenatide at all doses improved complexes I and IV activity, ADP/ATP ratio, and apoptosis. Malondialdehyde, lactate, troponin I, and BNP levels were also diminished after exenatide co-treatment in poisoned animals. On the other hand, administration of exenatide doses improved the histopathology of AlP-induced tissues. Based on our findings, exenatide has a protective effect against phosphine-induced cardiotoxicity in an almost dose-dependent way. However, further investigations are needed on the potential clinical use of exenatide in this poisoning.

Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of split graft storage time on the outcomes of split corneal transplantation through Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) surgeries. Split corneal transplantation was performed in 80 eyes using 41 donor corneas. The mean before and after splitting storage times and total storage times were recorded. Donor corneal buttons and split grafts were stored in short-term solution at 4°C. In both surgeries (DMEK and DALK), donor corneas were divided into groups depending on their storage times. In 2014, the Arkansas Hand Trauma Telemedicine Program (AHTTP) was established to extend specialized hand care throughout Arkansas. The purpose of this study is to assess whether transfers are affected when consultation with a hand specialist is performed by phone compared with using a live audiovisual consultation.

We reviewed data from the first year of the AHTTP. Data collection included type of consultation (telephone only or live audiovisual), need for transfer, and type of transfer (general orthopedic or hand specialist).

In 2014, the first year of AHTTP there were 331 hand injuries identified; of those, 298 used the AHTTP with 195 (65%) using telemedicine and 103 (35%) using phone consultation only. The use of video when compared with phone consultation did not significantly affect the decision to transfer (

= .42) or alter the rate of transfer for general orthopedic or hand specialist care (

= .25).
