nd societal costs.
IBD leads to a substantial burden of disease, which is associated with indirect costs for society related to work ability reduction. HRQoL significantly influences loss of work productivity. Improving HRQoL should be a key factor to reduce disease burden and societal costs. Objectives As the most highly attended dermatology conference in the United States, the AAD Meeting plays an especially critical role in the dissemination of dermatologic research. We sought to address the paucity of data regarding the fate of abstracts presented at AAD meetings to better understand the likelihood of publication after presentation as well as what factors may influence publication outcomes.Materials and Methods We conducted a literature search for each abstract presented in 2015 and 2016 to determine publication outcomes inclusive of latency to publication and journals represented. Results We found that the majority of abstracts presented at AAD Meetings do not reach publication, with 44.7% and 43.5% reaching publication in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Abstracts are likely to be published within one year of presentation. Publication outcomes are stratified by abstract category and study design. Conclusion There is considerable consistency in publication outcomes for abstracts presented at AAD Meetings for 2015 and 2016. Publication rates are comparable to other conferences in dermatology and other disciplines. These findings provide insight into the fate of the wealth of research presented at AAD meetings and what factors may influence an abstract being published.
The sodium-glucose cotransporter type 2 inhibitors reduce mortality and heart failure (HF) hospitalizations. The underlying mechanisms remain unclear but seem to be irrespective of glucose-lowering properties. Blasticidin S concentration This study aims to evaluate the impact of empagliflozin on myocardial biomechanics and correlation with markers of adverse remodeling.
Following myocardial infarct induction to create a model of HF, 14 pigs were randomly assigned in a 11 ratio to receive either empagliflozin 10 mg daily or placebo for 2months. Speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE) and feature-tracking cardiac magnetic resonance (FTCMR) were performed at baseline and at the end of the study to analyze myocardial deformation. The results were correlated with markers of adverse cardiac remodeling.
Empagliflozin significantly improved STE indices. These parameters significantly correlated with adverse cardiac remodeling. In contrast, FTCMR indices showed only a trend toward improved myocardial deformation and without significant correlation with adverse cardiac remodeling. The correlation between both techniques to assess myocardial deformation was low.
Empagliflozin enhances myocardial deformation, assessed by STE techniques, in a non-diabetic porcine model of ischemic HF. This may be related to a mitigation of adverse cardiac remodeling following ischemia reperfusion injury. In contrast, FTCMR technique needs further development and validation.

To investigate the clinicopathological and molecular features of colorectal cancer (CRC) with synchronous adenoma and to describe features of synchronous adenomas in CRC patients.
Single-centre retrospective cohort of 180 patients were included. The clinicopathological and endoscopic data were collected. The expression mismatch repair (MMR) proteins were detected by immunohistochemistry. The determination of microsatellite instability (MSI) was performed by multiple fluorescence PCR, and the mutations of genes were detected by real-time PCR.
Among all cases, 49 were diagnosed as CRC with synchronous adenoma, and 131 were diagnosed as solitary CRC. Some of the differences between the groups are higher incidence was found in male (71.4 vs. 52.6%,
= .023) and in patients with habit drinking (34.7 vs. 14.5%,
= .030) and with other neoplastic diseases (42.7 vs. 26%,
= .028). Less tumors in the synchronous group were diagnosed as stage III and IV than in the solitary group (28.6 vs. 45%,
= .045). One and four mutant subtypes of KRAS gene mutations were detected insynchronous group and solitary group respectively. The prevalence of
mutations in solitary group was higher than that in the synchronous group (7.4 vs. 0%,
= .045). A total of 123 adenomas were found in synchronous group and they tend to be smaller than 10 mm (74%).
Gender, a habit of drinking and other neoplastic diseases are risk factors for the development of a synchronous adenoma. With a low rate of BRAF mutations, the responses to monoclonal antibody and prognosis of patients with synchronous adenomas may be better than that of solitary CRC.

Confronted with over 4,000 opioid overdose deaths in 2017, the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services launched the Community Collective Impact Model for Change (CCIM4C) initiative to encourage 12 Ohio counties to think more deeply about primary prevention. By moving upstream and taking a look at the causes of the opioid crisis, the counties involved in the CCIM4C initiative were able to expand the range of potential partners and potential solutions, moving from emergency response alone to broader efforts to support social connection, economic security, and other social determinants of health. Each county brought together a wide array of partners, including local employers, community colleges, health care organizations, faith leaders, youth-serving organizations, first responders, librarians, school board members, public health officials, parks and recreation staff, and people with lived experience. This article focuses on the efforts of three counties-Ashtabula, Lorain, and Lawrence-to take on the community conditions that increase the risk of unhealthy substance use and addiction. It describes what they learned as they went beyond a sole focus on preventing opioid overdoses and deaths-as critically important as that is-to transforming their communities to support health and well-being in the first place.
Exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are associated with a significant health burden both for patients and healthcare systems. Exposure to various environmental factors increases the risk of exacerbations.
We searched PubMed and assessed literature published within the last 10years to include epidemiological evidence on the relationships between air pollution, temperature and COPD exacerbation risk as well as the implications of extreme weather events on exacerbations.
Ongoing climate change is expected to increase air pollution levels, global temperature and the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, all of which are associated with COPD exacerbations. Further research is needed using patient-focused methodological approaches to better understand and quantify these relationships, so that effective mitigation strategies that decrease the risk of exacerbations can be developed.

Triple negative breast cancer, defined by a lack of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, or human epidermal growth factor2, accounts for approximately 15% of breast cancer patients. Treatment options have historically been limited to chemotherapy, which has significant toxicity and a suboptimal impact on the five-year relapse rate and survival.
Transcriptomic analyses reveal that TNBC is biologically heterogenous. Predictive biomarkers based on the distinct biology of the different subtypes of TNBC should identify patients that will derive the greatest benefit from a specifically targeted therapeutic agent. Two biomarker-driven treatments have recently been approved poly-ADP ribose polymerase inhibitors for patients with germline
mutations and atezolizumab in combination with
-paclitaxel for patients expressing PD-L1 on tumor-infiltrating immune cells.
Identifying informative predictive biomarkers is critical for the optimal development of targeted drugs for TNBC. Some targeted agents, such as the antibody-drug conjugate sacituzumab govitecan-hziy and the precision medicines capivasertib and ipatisertib, have already shown promising results in early clinical trials, and the results of definitive phase 3 trials are eagerly awaited. Additionally, testing novel immunotherapies and other targeted agents in earlier stages of disease, particularly the neoadjuvant setting, is a high priority.

Despite new treatment options, the long-term prognosis of recurrent or inoperable gastric cancer remains poor. Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are a new class of drugs and have shown promising results in clinical trials.
This review focuses on recent clinical findings and development of ADCs for gastric cancer, and summarizes the relevant resistance mechanisms or future directions of ADCs.
Novel HER2-ADCs have led to breakthrough results for
gastric cancer; however, several questions remain, especially in clinical settings. Translational research to elucidate ADCs' mechanisms of action or resistance will lead to more sophisticated use of ADCs and combination strategies.
