According to Zagaria et al. (2020), evolutionary psychology may be the meta-theory that is needed if psychological science is to enter a paradigmatic stage. Other writers have suggested that what is needed is a person-oriented approach, which focuses on the person as a complex system that needs to be studied (1) as a whole (holism), (2) as an intentional agent in interaction with its environment (interactionism), and (3) in terms of his or her individual characteristics and development (idiographic focus). The purpose of the present paper is to discuss the compatibility of these two suggestions. A brief analysis of some formulations central to Dawkins' gene-centered approach (e.g., "the intricate interdependence of genes", and the dependence of genes on their environment) suggests that it is quite compatible with holism and interactionism; and applications such as genetic genealogy illustrate the possibility of a person-oriented genetics. It is argued that these two perspectives are not only compatible, but also complementary. Without a complement in the form of a person-oriented perspective, a gene-centered evolutionary psychology will at best be able to produce a general understanding of the psychological potentials that inhere in the human gene pool. It will not, however, lead to any understanding of the unique profiles of psychological potentials that are produced by a re-combination of autosomal DNA at the origin of each specific individual person, and that develop over time in interaction with the environment. The latter requires that the gene-centered view is complemented with a person-oriented approach.The main purpose of this paper is to contribute to the reflection on a potential integrative framework for the psychological sciences based on the target paper in this special issue "Psychology A Giant with Feet of Clay" by Zagaria, Andò & Zennaro. The paper is organized in three parts. PD0332991 In the first part we will discuss whether introductory textbooks provide a solid and reasonable basis for an analysis of the quality of conceptualization of key concepts in the psychology as well as whether the epistemological analysis could provide arguments for a conclusion that the psychology is a "soft(er)" science. In the second part, we will formulate our reasons why we share with Zagaria, Andò & Zennaro the conclusion that the evolutionary psychology might play a significant role in our quest for the integrative framework, but also why we are not convinced that evolutionary psychology can be integrative enough. In the third part, we are going to formulate an alternative starting point for exploration of for an integrative framework for psychological sciences and their practical applications supporting individuals and communities in their quest for a meaningful and productive existence and navigation of their future lives.The study has facilitated important insights into the regulatory networks involved in flower development in chrysanthemum (Asteraceae), and is informative with respect to the mechanism of flower shape determination. Chrysanthemum morifolium, valued as an ornamental species given the diversity of its inflorescence form, is viewed as a model for understanding flower development in the Asteraceae. Yet, the underlying regulatory networks remain largely unexplored. Here, a transcriptomic survey of the Chrysanthemum morifolium variety 'Jinba' was undertaken to uncover the global gene expression profiles and identify the modules of co-transcribed genes associated with flower development. The weighted gene coexpression network analysis revealed important networks and hub genes including ray floret petals-specific coexpression network, disc floret petals-specific network, B and E class genes involved network and CYC2 genes network. Three ray floret petal-specific hub genes were also strongly transcribed in the ray florets of a selection of six diverse varieties and especially so in those which form ligulate ray floret petals. link2 CmCYC2c was strongly transcribed in the distal and lateral regions of the ray floret petals, and also, along with CmCYC2d, in the tubular ray florets. Furthermore, CmOFP, belonging to the family of ovate proteins, was identified in the CYC2 genes network. CmOFP can interact with CmCYC2d that physically interact with CmCYC2c. This work provides important insights into the regulatory networks involved in flower development in chrysanthemum, and is informative with respect to the mechanistic basis of the regulation of flower shape.CmCAD2 and CmCAD3 function more positively than CmCAD1 in oriental melon for lignin synthesis which is important to ensure internal water status and thus for drought tolerance. Well-lignification may be the guarantee of efficient axial water transport and barrier of lateral water flow in oriental melon tolerating drought stress, however remains to be verified. As an important enzyme in monolignol synthesis pathway, five cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase (CAD) genes were generally induced in melon seedlings by drought. Here we further revealed the roles of CmCAD1, 2, and 3 in lignin synthesis and for drought tolerance. Results found that overexpressing CmCAD2 or 3 strongly recovered CAD activities, lignin synthesis and composition in Arabidopsis cadc cadd, whose lignin synthesis is disrupted, while CmCAD1 functioned modestly. In melon seedlings, silenced CmCAD2 and 3 individually or collectively decreased CAD activities and lignin depositions drastically, resulting in dwarfed phenotypes. Reduced lignin, mainly composed by guaiacyl units catalyzed by CmCAD3, is mainly due to the limited lignification in tracheary elements and development of Casparion strip. While CmCAD1 and 2 exhibited catalysis to p-coumaraldehyde and sinapaldehyde, respectively. link3 Compared with CmCAD1, drought treatments revealed higher sensitivity of CmCAD2 and/or 3 silenced melon seedlings, accompanying with lower relative water contents, water potentials and relatively higher total soluble sugar contents. Slightly up-regulated expressions of aquaporin genes together with limited lignification might imply higher lateral water loss in stems of silenced lines. In Arabidopsis, CmCAD2 and 3 transgenic lines enhanced cadc cadd drought tolerance through recovering lignin synthesis and root development, accompanying with decreased electrolyte leakage ratios and increased RWCs, thus improved survival rates. HLA-B*51 is a well-known genetic factor predisposing to BD populations with higher HLA-B*51 allelic frequencies are also those with a greater disease prevalence, as occurs in the Silk Road countries. However, the BD prevalence is unknown in many countries, including Kazakhstan and, in general, Central Asia, despite the location on or near the Silk Road. Due to the lack of clinical studies from this area, we analyzed the bone marrow donors registry in Kazakhstan, in order to assess the HLA-B*51 allelic and carrier frequencies, which resulted to be 8.14 and 15.28%, respectively. Through a comparison with the same parameters in other countries (by performing a data search in the medical literature and in the Allele Frequency Net Database), we might speculate a BD prevalence in Kazakhstan of 10-15/100.000 at least. In order to determine the diagnostic yield of Array-CGH in such conditions, all the tests performed in the last 10-year activity of a single referral center in children who present, besides the neurodevelopmental impairment, cerebellar abnormalities have been systematically gathered. The study demonstrates that, except for Dandy-Walker malformation or poly-malformative phenotypes, chromosomal microarray analysis should be discouraged as first-line diagnostic test in pediatric ataxias with neurodevelopmental disability.We sought to assess structural and functional patterns of cerebellum in multiple system atrophy (cerebellar type), and investigate the associations of structural and functional cerebellar gray matter abnormalities. We collected magnetic resonance imaging data of 18 patients with multiple system atrophy (cerebellar type) and 18 health control subjects. The gray matter loss across the motor and cognitive cerebellar territories in patients was assessed using voxel-based morphometry. And change in the connectivity between the cerebellum and large-scale cortical networks was assessed using resting-state functional MRI analysis. Furthermore, we assessed the relationship between the extent of cerebellar atrophy and reduced-activation in the cerebellar-cortical and subthalamo-cerebellar functional connectivities. We confirmed the gray matter loss across the motor and cognitive cerebellar territories in patients and found that the extent of cerebellar atrophy was correlated with decreased connectivity between the cerebellum and large-scale cortical networks, including the default, frontal parietal, and sensorimotor networks. The volume reduction in the motor cerebellum was closely associated with the clinical motor severity. A post hoc analysis showed reduced-activation in the subthalamo-cerebellar functional connectivity without the subthalamic nucleus atrophy. These results emphasized significant atrophy in the cerebellar subsystem and its association with the large-scale cortical networks in multiple system atrophy (cerebellar type), which may improve our understanding of the neural pathophysiology mechanisms of disease.Background The TNM system, which reflects the anatomical extent of disease, was used for stage definition. In the recently published AJCC 8th edition, the new staging system of the clinical and pathological prognostic stage, which incorporates biological factors, is introduced. Patients and methods A total of 2622 patients with primary breast cancer at stage I-III were included in this study. The anatomic stage (aStage) and the pathological prognostic stage (ppStage) for each case were determined according to the definition of the AJCC 8th edition, and the influence of these stages on the prognosis was compared. Results The stage distributions of aStage and ppStage were as follows aStage, stage IA (54.8%), IB (1.1%), IIA (26.1%), IIB (9.2%), IIIA (5.6%), IIIB (0.1%), and IIIC (3.1%); and ppStage, stage IA (66.6%), IB (13.1%), IIA (11.1%), IIB (3.2%), IIIA (3.3%), IIIB (1.4%), and IIIC (1.2%). Compared with the aStage, the ppStage stayed the same in 1710 patients (65.2%), was downstaged in 778 patients (29.7%), and was upstaged in 134 patients. The pathological tumor size (pT2) and lymph node metastasis (pN1) were associated with downstaging, and histological grade 3 was associated with upstaging. ER positivity, PgR positivity, and HER2-positivity were significantly associated with downstaging, and the TN subtype was associated with upstaging. Both the aStage and ppStage were significantly associated with the prognosis; however, the Kaplan-Meier curves for the relapse-free survival (RFS), distant recurrence-free survival (DRFS), and overall survival were better stratified by the ppStage. Conclusion The ppStage reflects the prognosis of patients with early breast cancer more accurately than the aStage.
