The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge levels of dentists regarding the treatment of several dental injuries.

Study design Cross-sectional study. A structured questionnaire was validated and sent electronically to the Professional Dental Schools of each Spanish region and subsequently to the affiliated dentists. The survey collected the dentists' demographic data and asked 11 questions regarding traumatic dental injuries and their potential complications and treatments. The relationships between the demographic data and the correct/incorrect answers regarding dental injuries were estimated by means of Pearson's chi-squared test and post hoc testing.

The survey was answered by 1532 dentists. None of the demographic variables was related to better knowledge. However, men, older dentists and more experienced dentists were related to having a self- evaluation of knowledge as comprehensive; 64.1% of the answers given by the respondents were correct. Surprisingly, having more clinical dental experience and a postgraduate degree were not related to better knowledge. The results revealed an uneven knowledge among dentists depending on the type of dental trauma injury. Questions on treatment of avulsion of immature teeth and complicated fractures had a correct answer frequency higher than 70%, while questions regarding intrusion and lateral luxation had a knowledge lower than 60% and less than 30%, respectively. More than 50% of dentists would apply splinting after replantation for more than 14 days.

Dentists need to improve their knowledge regarding the treatment of tooth intrusion, lateral luxation and avulsion of mature teeth as well as the use of splinting.

During the last three decades, fluoride varnishes have been recognised as effective strategies for caries prevention in the young-child population and have contributed to a decrease in its prevalence worldwide. The present study aimed to assess in vitro the level of cytotoxicity and genotoxicity in human primary pulp fibroblasts (DPFs) of two NaF varnishes.

Four experimental assays were carried out (MTS, Mitotracker® system [mitochondrial function and morphology], Live/Dead®, and Comet) to assess the morphology, viability, and genotoxicity of two NaF varnishes (Duraphat® and Clinpro White®, both at two different concentrations). The essays were conducted on cultured pulp fibroblasts, grouped in four experimental and two control groups. Collected data were analysed by one-way ANOVA followed by the post hoc Bonferroni test.

Some morphological changes of DPFs could be detected after the NaFVs stimulation. Most DPFs incubated in Duraphat (22.6 mg/L) maintained their morphological characteristics, except for, Duraphat was less biocompatible and caused a change in the number of mitochondria compared to Clinpro White Varnish.

To investigate oral hygiene and periodontal status of 12- and 15-year-old Greek adolescents in relation to socio- demographic and behavioural indicators and identify national trends.

In a stratified cluster sample of 2,478 participants, the Simplified Debris Index (DI-S) and the Community Periodontal Index (CPI) were calculated. Socio- demographic/behavioural data were collected through structured questionnaires. Multivariate ordinary regression examined the effect of socio-behavioural indicators on oral hygiene and periodontal conditions.

51.7% of the 12-year-olds and 56.9% of the 15- year-olds had fair and good oral hygiene, respectively. Approximately 30% of the adolescents had healthy periodontium. Bleeding on probing was detected in 23.6% and 21.6% of the 12- and the 15-year-olds, accordingly. Calculus was found in 46.2% and 44.3% of the 12- and the 15-year-old groups, correspondingly. The prevalence of periodontal pockets ?4mm was 3.2%. Significantly higher DI-S scores were found among 12-year-olds who were males, had lower educated mothers or did not use dental floss and among adolescents who brushed their teeth <twice/day. Selleckchem Mirdametinib Inferior periodontal status was found among 15-year-olds who were males, 12-year- olds with lower educated mothers, who did not brush or brushed infrequently, and among subjects who did not floss. Poor self-rated oral health was significantly related to adverse oral hygiene and periodontal health outcomes. Oral hygiene and periodontal status of Greek adolescents improved moderately in ten years.

Periodontal health promotion strategies should target vulnerable sub- groups of adolescents to reduce future periodontal burden. Self-rated oral health may be useful for identifying unmet periodontal treatment needs.

Except for emergencies and urgent cases, dental treatments have been suspended in Saudi Arabia. This report examines the pattern of emergency dental care provided to children and adolescents in Riyadh City, Saudi Arabia, which has been affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic.

In late March 2020, the General Directorate of Dentistry, Ministry of Health (MOH), administered an online dental emergency investigation form, which was to be completed by all MOH (governmental) dental centres and sent to the MOH on daily basis. This report included patient information (such as gender and age), whether the patient had contacted the hotline service centre, dental diagnosis, specialty of the treating dental professional and treatment provided. Descriptive analyses were generated.

Only few (n=95) patients under the age of 14 sought emergency dental treatment during the investigated period (six weeks). Findings showed very low utilisation of the hotline service (14.7%). Most had dental pain (n=85; 89.5%). Eighty fouals to pursue a consistent approach in treating emergency dental conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic era and following the national protocols.
