Although many researches have explored the prognostic factors associated with length of hospital stay (LOS) of adult burn patients, fewer reports concerning pediatric burn patients have been conducted. The present study employed pediatric burn data to identify factors related to LOS and developed a novel model to assess the possibility of requiring surgery. A total of 750 children admitted for burns met the criteria for enrollment. We have analyzed the medical records using multivariable linear regression and logistic regression. The pediatric patients were stratified into medical (nonsurgical) and surgical groups, respectively. The median LOS was 27.11 ± 17.91 days (range 6-107 days). Following multiple linear regression, surgery (P less then .001; 95% confidence interval [CI] 6.485, 11.918), percent total BSA (%TBSA) (P less then .001; 95% CI 0.271, 0.459), days to surgery (P less then .001; 95% CI 0.349, 0.648), etiology (P less then .001; 95% CI -15.801, -9.422), infection (P less then .001; 95% CI 4.163, 8.329), and erythrocyte loss (P less then .001; 95% CI 1.923, 4.017) were significantly associated with LOS. After logistic regression, the percent full thickness (%FT) (P less then .001; odds ratio [OR] 2.358; 95% CI 1.680, 3.311), infection (P less then .001; OR 2.935; 95% CI 2.014, 4.278), and erythrocyte loss (P less then .001; OR 0.572; 95% CI 0.470, 0.696) within 5 days postadmission were independently related to the probability of requiring surgery. In conclusion, in pediatric patients admitted with burn size of TBSA ≥20%, factors independently influencing LOS were surgery, %TBSA, days to surgery, etiology, erythrocyte loss, and infection. Furthermore, the pivotal predictors of probability requiring surgery were %FT, infection, and erythrocyte loss. © The Author(s) 2020. For permissions, please e-mail journals.permissions@oup.com.While it is mandated that reproductive and child health services be provided for free at public facilities in India, qualitative evidence suggests it is common for facilities to request bribes and other informal payments for medicines, medical tests or equipment. This article examines the prevalence of bribe requests, total out-of-pocket expenditures (OOPEs) and associations between bribe requests and total OOPEs on the experience of quality of care and maternal complications during childbirth. Women who delivered in public facilities in Uttar Pradesh, India were administered a survey on sociodemographic characteristics, bribe requests, total OOPEs, types of health checks received and experience of maternal complications. Data were analysed using descriptive, bivariate and multivariate statistics. Among the 2018 women who completed the survey, 43% were asked to pay a bribe and 73% incurred OOPEs. Bribe requests were associated with lower odds of receiving all health checks upon arrival to the facility (aOR = 0.49; 95% CI 0.24-0.98) and during labour and delivery (aOR = 0.44; 95% CI 0.25-0.76), lower odds of receiving most or all health checks after delivery (aOR = 0.44; 95% CI 0.31-0.62) and higher odds of experiencing maternal complications (aOR = 1.45; 95% CI 1.13-1.87). Although it is mandated that maternity care be provided for free in public facilities in India, these findings suggest that OOPEs are high, and bribes/tips contribute significantly. Interventions centred on improving person-centred care (particularly guidelines around bribes), health system conditions and women's expectations of care are needed. © The Author(s) 2020. SUMMARY ANSWER We developed and validated an automated software for the annotation of human embryo morphokinetic parameters, having a good concordance with expert manual annotation on 701 time-lapse videos. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Morphokinetic parameters obtained with time-lapse devices are increasingly used for the assessment of human embryo quality. However, their annotation is time-consuming and can be slightly operator-dependent, highlighting the need to develop fully automated approaches. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This monocentric study was conducted on 701 videos originating from 584 couples undergoing IVF with embryo culture in a time-lapse device. The only selection criterion was that the duration of the video must be over 60 h. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS An automated morphokinetic annotation tool was developed based on gray level coefficientFINDINGS Our system paves the way for high-throughput analysis of multicentric morphokinetic databases, providing new insights into the clinical value of morphokinetics as a predictor of embryo quality and implantation. However, in patients with an unclampable descending thoracic aorta, the retrieval of the trunk can be problematic and the proximal stent graft-to-graft anastomosis technically challenging.
