Correction for 'Organic contaminants of emerging concern in Norwegian digestates from biogas production' by Aasim M. Ali et al., Environ. Sci. Processes Impacts, 2019, 21, 1498-1508.Sm3+-Modified (1 - x)Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-xCaTiO3 (NBT-xCTSm3+) piezo-luminescent ceramic materials were synthesized to investigate the influence of CaTiO3 (CT) concentration on their photoluminescence and electrical performance. Under 480 nm irradiation, the NBT-xCTSm3+ samples exhibit prominent orange-red emission, with a prime emission peak centered at 597 nm. A moderate amount of CT doping in the Sm3+-modified NBT ceramics boosts both their photoluminescence and piezoelectric properties significantly, with NBT-0.04CTSm3+ showing the optimal performance. Furthermore, outstanding luminescence thermal stability over a temperature range of 293-473 K and superior water resistance behavior are achieved in the NBT-0.04CTSm3+ ceramic. These results indicate that NBT-xCTSm3+ piezo-luminescent ceramics show great potential applications in white LEDs, as well as novel optical-electronic multifunctional devices.Base-stabilized silyliumylidene ions are starting to gather more and more interest from academia and industry because of their intriguing possibilities as synthons in organosilicon chemistry, facile activation of small molecules and possible applications in transition metal-free catalysis. Furthermore, with the presence of a stereochemically active lone pair on the low-valent silicon center, they can act as ligands in transition metal complexes comparable to carbenes and silylenes. Utilization of the incredible synthetic potential of Si(ii) cations - the possible formation of up to three new bonds in a single reaction - can also give facile access to dative, single, double and triple bonds between silicon and a transition metal. Over the past years we have invested in further developing the area of base-stabilized silyliumylidene ions and have contributed significantly to their potential coordination chemistry and their intriguing reactivities with transition metals. This Frontier article discusses the recent developments in the chemistry of base-stabilized Si(ii) cations as ligands and highlights our contributions to this field.Control of the interfacial structures of ionic liquids (ILs) at charged interfaces is important to many of their applications, including in energy storage solutions, sensors and advanced lubrication technologies utilising electric fields. In the case of the latter, there is an increasing demand for the study of non-halogenated ILs, as many fluorinated anions have been found to produce corrosive and toxic halides under tribological conditions. Here, the interfacial structuring of a series of four imidazolium ILs ([CnC1Im]) of varying alkyl chain lengths (n = 5, 6, 7, 10), with a non-halogenated borate-based anion ([BOB]), have been studied at charged interfaces using sum frequency generation (SFG) spectroscopy and neutron reflectivity (NR). For all alkyl chain lengths, the SFG spectra show that the cation imidazolium ring responds to the surface charge by modifying its orientation with respect to the surface normal. In addition, the combination of SFG spectra with electrochemical NR measurements reveals that the longest alkyl chain length (n = 10) forms a bilayer structure at all charged interfaces, independent of the ring orientation. Mixing silicon and carbon offers a rather unexplored pathway to build semiconducting sheets compatible with current Si-based electronics. We present here a complete theoretical study of the phase diagram of two-dimensional silicon-carbon binaries. To scan the composition range, we employ an ab initio global structural prediction method, complemented by exhaustive enumeration of two-dimensional structure prototypes. We find a wealth of two-dimensional low-energy structures, from standard honeycomb single- and double-layers, passing by dumbbell geometries, to carbon nanosheets bridged by Si atoms. Many of these phases depart from planarity, either through buckling, or by germinating three-dimensional networks with a mixture of sp2 and sp3 bonds. We further characterize the most interesting crystal structures, unveiling a large variety of electronic properties, that could be exploited to develop high-performance electronic devices at the nanoscale.In this paper, a series of novel energetic compounds based on the backbone of the tetrazine-triazole structure were successfully synthesized. N,N'-((1,2,4,5-Tetrazine-3,6-diyl)bis(1,2-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazole-5-yl-3-ylidene))dinitramino (4) was prepared by the nitration of 5,5'-(1,4-dihydro-1,2,4,5-tetrazine-3,6-diyl)bis(1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-amine) (3) with 100% nitric acid and its energetic salts (6-14) were also prepared. All the compounds were fully characterized. The structures of 4 and 5 were further confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The results show that these compounds have high heats of formation ranging from 2.09 to 3.95 kJ g-1, good detonation pressures and detonation velocities and acceptable sensitivities. Among them, compound 4, with low sensitivities (IS 20 J and FS 270 N) and excellent detonation properties (vD = 9100 m s-1; P = 34.1 GPa) shows potential for application in the field of highly energetic and insensitive explosives. The hydroxylammonium salt (7) exhibits promising energetic properties, which, in some cases, are superior to those of octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine (HMX).BACKGROUND In a previous study, we evaluated the potential beneficial effect of nano-bubble curcumin extract (NCE) in reducing exercise-related injuries and improving performance. METHODS In this study, we seek to investigate changes in the gut microbiota composition upon NCE supplementation in relation to health and exercise performance. Male ICR mice were divided into 3 groups (n = 8 per group) and orally administered NCE once daily for six weeks at 0 (vehicle), 3.075 (NCE-1X) and 15.375 g kg-1 day-1 (NCE-5X). The gut microbiota from the mice was analyzed using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. RESULTS NCE-5X did not appear to obviously cluster with the vehicle group, although NCE-5X groups showed an increased Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio compared with the vehicle group. In addition, anti-fatigue activity and exercise performance were evaluated by investigating the exhaustive swimming time, forelimb grip strength and serum levels of lactate, ammonia, glucose, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) after swimming. The NCE-1X and NCE-5X groups showed a significantly longer exhaustive swimming time and higher relative forelimb grip strength than the vehicle group. Tissue glycogen content, an important energy source for exercise, increased significantly with NCE supplementation. CONCLUSION Taken together, our results indicate that NCE supplementation alters the gut microbiota composition and aids in overcoming physical fatigue. Curcumin may be acting on the gut microbiome to modulate the gut system towards improving exercise performance.in English, Dutch In dit vijfde en laatste artikel in een reeks naar aanleiding van het Kies-voor-Tandenonderzoek 2017, worden de resultaten van de 23-jarigen gepresenteerd. Van de 23-jarigen had 21% een gaaf blijvend gebit. Er waren in 2017 nog mondgezondheidsverschillen tussen de sociaal-economische (SES) groepen waarbij de hoge SES-groep in het voordeel was. De mondgezondheid van de lage SES-groep laat de afgelopen 6 jaar enige verbetering zien terwijl dit bij de hoge SES-groep niet het geval is. Het preventieve tandheelkundig gedrag van 23-jarigen laat te wensen over en de kennis over het tandheelkundige verzekeringsstelsel is matig. De conclusie is dat de mondgezondheid van 23-jarigen deels is verbeterd, deels gestagneerd. Aangezien niet iedereen via een mondzorgverlener aan informatie over mondgezondheid en adequate mondverzorging zal (kunnen) komen, moet nagedacht worden over andere wegen om deze informatie aan hen te verschaffen. Van de 17-jarigen had 34% een gaaf blijvend gebit. Er waren in 2017 nog mondgezondheidsverschillen tussen de sociaal-economische groepen waarbij de hoge sociaal-economische groep in het voordeel was. De mondgezondheid van de 17-jarigen was de afgelopen 6 jaar gestagneerd en lijkt op sommige indicatoren zelfs te verslechteren. Daarnaast is het slecht gesteld met de kennis over het tandheelkundige verzekeringsstelsel na de achttiende verjaardag. De conclusie is dat mondgezondheid van de 17-jarigen de afgelopen jaren niet is verbeterd. Deze trend dient te worden gevolgd door monitoringsonderzoek. Daarnaast dienen interventies ter verbetering van mondgezondheid, kennis en gedrag van adolescenten te worden opgezet en geëvalueerd.in English, Dutch In dit artikel wordt een onderzoek gerapporteerd over de subjectieve mondgezondheid van mensen met de ziekte van Parkinson, gerelateerd aan de duur en de progressie van de ziekte. Participanten waren 74 personen met de ziekte van Parkinson en 74 controlepersonen. Allen werden geïnterviewd over onderwijsniveau, rookgewoonten, laatste tandartsbezoek, aantal tandartsbezoeken in de laatste 5 jaar, dagelijkse mondverzorging, type gebruikte tandenborstel, kauwproblemen, afbijtproblemen, smaakverlies, mondbranden, xerostomie, halitose, achterblijvende voedselresten, pijnlijke en bloedende gingiva en mobiliteit, pijn en sensitiviteit van gebitselementen. Meer mensen met de ziekte dan controlepersonen kregen ondersteuning bij de dagelijkse mondverzorging en hadden kauwproblemen, afbijtproblemen, smaakverlies, mobiliteit van gebitselementen en xerostomie. Bij de mensen met de ziekte was de prevalentie van kauwproblemen gerelateerd aan zowel de duur als de progressie van de ziekte. Bovendien bleek een verband te bestaan tussen enerzijds de progressie van de ziekte en anderzijds afbijtproblemen en het krijgen van ondersteuning bij de dagelijkse mondverzorging.
