The intestine is the most extensive storage organ of bacteria and endotoxins, and the mucosal immune system is the first barrier of the intestine. Mucin-2 (MUC2) is the major component of the mucus layers. In this study, we explored whether MUC2 plays a role in how lipopolysaccharide (LPS) invades the fetus from the gut to the uterus in pregnant mice. The results showed that the LPS levels of the ileum, colon, and uterus were significantly increased, and the content of secretory IgA (sIgA) in the ileum, colon, and uterus tissues was significantly decreased in the LPS(+) group on the 35th day after LPS treatment. On the 16th day of pregnancy, compared with the LPS(-) group, the level of ileum LPS was significantly decreased, and the content of LPS in the fetus was significantly increased in the LPS(+) group. The sIgA content in the fetus was significantly decreased in the uterus and placenta. The expression of MUC2 in the uterus, ileum, and colon was increased significantly in the LPS(+) group, especially in the uterus. It is suggested that endotoxins accumulate in the uterus during non-pregnancy. The high expression of MUC2 in the uterus can prevent LPS from translocating into uterine tissue. After pregnancy, MUC2 still protects uterine tissue, allowing a large amount of LPS to enter the fetal body through blood circulation. Therefore, the level of sIgA significantly decreased, resulting in a decline in fetal innate immune function.Chest circumference (CC), abdominal circumference (AC), and waist circumference (WC) are regarded as important indicators for improving economic traits because they can reflect the growth and physiological status in pigs. However, the genetic architecture of CC, AC, and WC is still elusive. Here, we performed single-trait and multi-trait genome-wide association studies (GWASs) for CC, AC, and WC in 2,206 American origin Duroc (AOD) and 2,082 Canadian origin Duroc (COD) pigs. As a result, one novel quantitative trait locus (QTL) on Sus scrofa chromosome (SSC) one was associated with CC and AC in COD pigs, which spans 6.92 Mb (from 170.06 to 176.98 Mb). Moreover, multi-trait GWAS identified 21 significant SNPs associated with the three conformation traits, indicating the multi-trait GWAS is a powerful statistical approach that uncovers pleiotropic locus. Finally, the three candidate genes (ITGA11, TLE3, and GALC) were selected that may play a role in the conformation traits. Further bioinformatics analysis indicated that the candidate genes for the three conformation traits mainly participated in sphingolipid metabolism and lysosome pathways. For all we know, this study was the first GWAS for WC in pigs. Thirty male goats of five ages (1, 2, 3, 6, and 12 months old) were selected for blood sampling to determine the influence of age. Another 64 goat kids (half males and half females) were weaned at 1 month old and fed with starter diets with control, low, medium, and high BHBA doses (0, 3, 6, and 9 g/animal/day, respectively). Six goats per treatment were selected for blood analysis at 2 and 3 months of age. There were significant effects (p less then 0.01) of ages on the blood parameters of goat kids. The 6- and 12-month-old goats showed significantly lower blood total protein, globulin, BHBA, IgA, and IgM concentrations than did young goats, while they had a higher albumin-to-globulin ratio than young goats. The blood glucose decreased (p less then 0.01) and IgG increased over time (p less then 0.01). In blood, growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) were lower (p less then 0.01) at 1- and 3-month-old goats than 12-month-old goats. An experimental cadaveric study evaluated thalamic and piriform lobe target site needle placement error in three dogs and three cats without a history of intracranial disease. Diagnostic accuracy and diagnostic yield were prospectively evaluated in twenty-four client-owned dogs and four cats with intracranial disease. Twenty-one procedures were performed post mortem (eighteen dogs and three cats), and seven biopsy procedures were performed in alive patients (six dogs and one cat). Procedural duration was evaluated in ten post mortem and four living patients. Outcome was evaluated in six dogs and one cat. In dogs, the calculated median needle placement error was 1.8 mm (range 0.71-2.84 mm) and 1.53 mm (range 1.45-1.99 mm) for piriform lobe and thalamus target sites, respectively. However, isolation and characterization of the pathogen from clinical bovine mastitis is unknown. The objective of this study was to identify the pathogen in clinical bovine mastitis. A total of four strains were isolated from bovine mastitis milk samples from a Chinese dairy farm, and they were identified as H. ovis by microscopic examination and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Phylogenetic tree was constructed using 16S rRNA gene, and the isolates were closely related to other China strains and strains from Japan. The growth speed of the H. ovis isolated was relatively slower than Streptococcus agalactiae, and the phenotypic characteristics were similar to H. ovis CCUG37441 and CCUG39041 except to lactose. The isolates were sensitive to most of the common used antimicrobials. The H. ovis isolates could lead to mild murine mastitis alone and induce severe mastitis when co-infected with Trueperella pyogenes in the murine mammary infection model constructed.
