The implemented control strategies led to an overall more sustainable and efficient plant performance in terms of better effluent quality, reduced operational cost and lower GHG emissions. The lowest N2O and overall GHG emissions were achieved when ammonium and soluble nitrous oxide in the aerobic reactors were controlled and struvite was recovered in the reject water stream, achieving a reduction of 27% for N2O and 9% for total GHG, compared to the open loop configuration.Histopathological examination in mussels can provide useful information for the diagnosis of ecosystem health status. The distribution of parasites in mussels can be conditioned by several environmental factors, including mussels collecting sites or the presence/absence of other species necessary to complete the complex life cycle of certain parasites. Thus, these variables could not only govern the parasitic burden of mussels but also the presence of pathologies associated to parasitism. The aim of this study was to identify the histopathological alterations which could be indicative of a health status distress along a wide latitudinal span in the Northern Atlantic and Arctic Oceans in mussels of two size-classes sampled in clean and impacted sites. A latitudinal gradient is clearly observed in gamete developmental stages as northern and southern mussels presented different conditions at the same period. Furthermore, mussels of the same size in different latitudes presented differences in the reproductive cycle and the appearance of related pathologies, which probably meant the age of individuals was different. In addition, specific parasitic profiles ruled by latitudinal conditions and the settlement of mussels in the shore (horizontal/vertical) have been demonstrated to be significantly influential in the health condition of mussels. Furthermore, the present work provides the first histological description of Gymnophallus cf. bursicola parasite causing a considerable host response in Tromsø and Iceland plus the report of grave histopathological status that included high prevalence of granulocytomas in Scotland and Germany. In this paper, a compartmental mathematical model has been utilized to gain a better insight about the future dynamics of COVID-19. The total human population is divided into eight various compartments including susceptible, exposed, pre-asymptomatic, asymptomatic, symptomatic, quarantined, hospitalized and recovered or removed individuals. The problem was modeled in terms of highly nonlinear coupled system of classical order ordinary differential equations (ODEs) which was further generalized with the Atangana-Balaeanu (ABC) fractional derivative in Caputo sense with nonlocal kernel. Furthermore, some theoretical analyses have been done such as boundedness, positivity, existence and uniqueness of the considered. Disease-free and endemic equilibrium points were also assessed. The basic reproduction was calculated through next generation technique. Due to high risk of infection, in the present study, we have considered the reported cases from three continents namely Americas, Europe, and south-east Asia. The rfected individuals can lead us to decrease the rate of infection. This proof-of-concept study aimed to investigate the viability of a predictive model to support posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) staging. We performed a naturalistic, cross-sectional study at two Brazilian centers the Psychological Trauma Research and Treatment (NET-Trauma) Program at Universidade Federal of Rio Grande do Sul, and the Program for Research and Care on Violence and PTSD (PROVE), at Universidade Federal of São Paulo. Five supervised machine-learning algorithms were tested Elastic Net, Gradient Boosting Machine, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, and C5.0, using clinical (Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale version 5) and sociodemographic features. A hundred and twelve patients were enrolled (61 from NET-Trauma and 51 from PROVE). We found a model with four classes suitable for the PTSD staging, with best performance metrics using the C5.0 algorithm to CAPS-5 15-items plus sociodemographic features, with an accuracy of 65.6% for the train dataset and 52.9% for the test dataset (both significant). The number of symptoms, CAPS-5 total score, global severity score, and presence of current/previous trauma events appear as main features to predict PTSD staging. This is the first study to evaluate staging in PTSD with machine learning algorithms using accessible clinical and sociodemographic features, which may be used in future research.Ambulatory audio and video recording provides a wealth of information which can be used for a broad range of applications, including digital phenotyping, telepsychiatry, and telepsychology. However, these technologies are in their infancy, and guidelines for their use and analysis have yet to be established. The current project used ambulatory assessment data from individuals with schizophrenia (N = 52) and controls (N = 55) over a week to assess factors influencing sufficiency and useability of video and audio data. Logistic multilevel models examined the effect of relevant variables on video provision and video quality. There was no difference by group in video provision or quality. selleckchem Videos were less likely to be provided later in the study and later in the day. Video quality was lower later in the day, particularly for controls. Participants were more likely to provide videos if alone or at home than in other settings. Black participants were less likely to have analyzable video frames than White participants. These results suggest potential racial disparities in camera technologies and/or facial analysis algorithms. Implications of these findings and recommendations for future study development, such as instructions to provide to participants to optimize video quality, are discussed. This study retrospectively compares two previous parallel running, randomized, controlled trials of pharmacotherapy (imipramine) and psychotherapy (acceptance and commitment therapy) for multi-organ functional somatic disorder (FSD). Differences in demographics, psychiatric comorbidity, illness severity, and illness duration associated with eligibility for the two trials and patients' willingness to participate are explored using linear or binary regression models. 418 patients with multi-organ FSD was included. We found that 377 (95%) were eligible for psychotherapy and 257 patients (61%) for pharmacotherapy. Patients eligible for pharmacotherapy were less severely impaired, less often received disability pension, reported shorter illness duration and experienced less psychological distress than patients eligible for psychotherapy. Whilst exclusion criteria for both trials differed markedly, it was not possible to clearly identify patient or illness characteristics associated with patients' willingness to participate. The study showed that trial-specific exclusion criteria led to the selection of less complex and less severely impaired patients in the pharmacological trial in this sample of multi-organ FSD. Our findings have important implications for the interpretation and comparability of RCT results of different treatments in multi-organ FSD and may point to some common flaws in study design and interpretation of pharmacological vs. psychotherapeutic intervention trials in psychiatry. The work entitled "Preliminary Findings of mRNA Covid-19 Vaccine Safety in Pregnant Persons" published on April 21, 2021, in The New England Journal of Medicine, presented data collected from American surveillance systems and registries. However, problems with an unanimous interpretation of those results appeared in the public debate and citing articles. Some stated that the risk of miscarriage in vaccinated women was similar to historical values reported before the vaccines' approval. The others stated that risk was highly above-normative in women vaccinated during the first and second trimesters. We found several problems with the statistical treatment/interpretation of the originally presented values a substantial percentage (up to 95.6%) of missing data, an incorrect denominator used for risk estimation, and too short follow-up that disabled the evaluation of the study's endpoint in numerous participants. Eventually, the Authors published a corrigendum on September 8, 2021, and pointed to updated data. Herein, we explain the statistical controversies raised by the original presentation and stress that analyzing the trade-off between knowledge and confusion brought by the release of incomplete results of such a high social interest, should aid in solving the dilemma of whether to publish preliminary data or none.
Selenium is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrient and regulates important physiological processes, such as carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, immune system actions, and adipocyte differentiation. Given these important functions, several studies have assessed the nutritional status of selenium to elucidate whether its homeostasis is impaired by excess adiposity, which in turn could contribute to the adipose tissue dysfunction and metabolic disorders. However, the results of these studies are quite controversial. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess differences in the nutritional status of selenium in overweight/obese individuals.
We searched the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Virtual Health Library databases. Studies comparing overweight or obese individuals with eutrophic individuals and assessing at least one marker of selenium were included. Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software was used to perform meta-analysis. The effect size was caerweight or obese individuals.Bus safety represents an important topic for injury prevention. When drivers experience conflict with their passengers, it likely distracts them from the driving task, both physically and mentally, and jeopardizes the safety of all passengers. However, detailed information concerning the frequency and type of conflicts between bus drivers and passengers is unavailable. We conducted a driver-reported cross-sectional survey to investigate the characteristics of driver-passenger conflict in the past month. The survey was completed in Changsha city, China in August 2019. In total, 779 bus drivers were surveyed. Of 732 drivers who completed the questionnaire, 635 (86.7%; 95% confidence interval 84.3-89.1%) drivers reported experiencing at least one conflict with passengers in the past month. After adjusting for other demographic variables, drivers who were male, younger, less educated, less experienced as a bus driver, and with a comparatively high self-reported work intensity were more likely to report experiencior drivers (39.1%). We conclude that bus driver-passenger conflicts are common in Changsha city, China. The conflicts impose a substantial threat to the safety of both drivers and passengers. We recommend multiple preventive actions to reduce driver-passenger conflicts and improve bus safety.Sexual activity while driving has been reported in emerging research. Sexual activity while driving is a form of distracted driving because it includes an individual (the driver) who deviates resources from the primary task (driving) towards a secondary task (sexual activity). However, most of our current knowledge about the range of sexual activities while driving is based on self-reported data or media reports. Thus, an in-depth understanding of sexual activities while driving and their interactions with non-sexual driving behaviours and vehicle control is missing. Additionally, there is limited information on the context of where sexual activities while driving occurs and the influence of factors such as the environment, the vehicle, interactions with other road users, and other in-vehicle distractions. To cover this gap, a content analysis of sexually explicit media (SEM) was conducted on a sample of 270 videos depicting real driving. We conducted descriptive analyses and used decision tree analysis to explore the association between sexual activities while driving and their interactions with non-sexual driving behaviours and vehicle control.
