This study examined the association between tumour necrosis factor-alpha (

α

(-308 G/A) polymorphism and gingivitis, and serum and salivary TNF- α levels, in a Mexican population.

This study enrolled 171 subjects, divided into two groups healthy subjects and gingivitis patients.

α (-308 G/A) gene polymorphism was analyzed by PCR-RFLP assay. Salivary and serum samples were used to measure cytokine levels through the ELISA technique.

α (-308 G/A) polymorphism was shown to have a protective effect in carriers of the A/A genotype and allele A. The G/A genotype is associated with an increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels in the gingivitis group. Healthy individuals had higher levels of salivary TNF- α and HDL-C, and increased salivary flow. Triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were increased in the gingivitis group. No statistical differences were found in serum TNF- α levels.

Our data demonstrate that the

α -308 A/A genotype exerts a protective effect against gingivitis. Moreover, oral conditions are associated with some biochemical parameters.

Patients presenting to emergency departments for ophthalmic emergencies benefit from prompt evaluation. However, Few emergency departments (EDs) have ophthalmologists on call, and eye care provided in EDs without ophthalmic services can be inaccurate.

We review the current state of ophthalmic telemedical care in EDs and highlight important considerations when implementing telemedicine in this setting.

Telemedicine allows ophthalmologists to work with on-site emergency care providers to interview and examine patients remotely in EDs, enabling proper assessment of patient history, visual acuity, pupils, intraocular pressure, as well as the anterior and posterior segment. To date, patients' perceptions of this new model of care have been largely positive.

The use of telemedical consultations for remote evaluation of patients with ophthalmic complaints stands to improve the quality of care provided to patients and extend the reach of remote ophthalmologists. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the risk of in-personcare further highlights the potential for telemedicine to augment existing models of emergency care.

B[a]P is a well-known human genotoxic carcinogen (IARC Group 1). It has a tumorigenic potential in virtually all in vivo experimental animal model systems. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of catechin hydrate (CH) against B [a] P-induced toxicity in the lung of adult albino rats. Thirty-six adult male albino rats (150-200 g) were divided into six groups, three control groups, and three experimental groups B[a] P-treated group, (CH)-treated group, and B[a] P+(CH)-treated group. At the end of the fourth week of the study, blood samples and lung tissues were obtained for the biochemical and genotoxicity, RT-PCR, histopathological, and immunohistochemical investigations, respectively. Our results clarified that B[a] P exposure caused a subsequent decrease in the activities of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT), and conversely (MDA) levels elevated markedly. Raptinal Also, B[a] P induced DNA damages and activated the apoptotic pathway, presented by upregulated Bax, caspase-3, and downregulated Bcl-2 gens. However, treatment with CH increased antioxidant enzymes as well as regulated apoptosis. Discernible histological changes in the lung also supported the protective effects of CH. These findings suggested that CH is an effective natural product that attenuates Benzo [a] pyrene-induced lung toxicity.

To evaluate the long-term natural course of macular telangiectasia Type 2, correlation with visual acuity and the incidence of Choroidal Neovascularisation (CNV) in Indian eyes.

A Retrospective analysis of Patients with MacTel Type 2 was done over a period of 12years with all patients having a minimum of 3years follow up. The demographic details and ocular characteristics including best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, and optical coherence tomography images were studied in both proliferative and non-proliferative MacTel. Mixed models were used to estimate progression rates and a Kaplan Meier estimation of BCVA was plotted.

Eighty-two eyes of 47 patients were studied over a period of mean duration of 4.5years (range 3years-8.5years). There was no difference in the demographic characteristics between the non-proliferative MacTel and proliferative MacTel groups. There were no significant risk factors observed for progression. However, patients with retinal grented plaques (3.66%). The incidence of sight-threatening complication of CNV (10.6%) is likely to occur only in a minority of eyes. The author reflects on the ethical status of psychoanalysis. He argues that the ethical specificity of psychoanalysis is determined by its method. He distinguishes between concepts tied to the analytic frame - the protocol, technique and method. The method is the main guarantee of the ethical engagement between analyst and patient - in particular through the transference. The conditions of opening up the transference are maintained by a particular aspect of the analytic method, namely stating the fundamental rule of free association, which turns the setting into a process. The author illustrates his remarks by discussing Sophie's psychoanalytic treatment in which a passionate transference emerges. A chance external event brings about a rupture in the transitional space of the session's psychic reality, and thereby makes the specific status of the transference fall away and compromises the analytic work. Consequently, the analyst is deprived of his ethical status as object of the patient's psychic reality, and as the recipient of the transference, and becomes an ordinary object in the field of everyday objectality.
