In theory, online activism could hinder offline protests, but empirical evidence for slacktivism is mixed. In some contexts, online and offline action could be unrelated because people act differently online versus offline, or because people restrict their actions to one domain. However, most empirical evidence suggests that online and offline activism are positively related and intertwined (no digital dualism), because social media posts can mobilise others for offline protest. Notwithstanding this positive relationship, the internet also enhances the visibility of activism and therefore facilitates repression in repressive contexts. The COVID-19 pandemic demands reassessment of head and neck oncology treatment paradigms. Head and neck cancer (HNC) patients are generally at high-risk for COVID-19 infection and severe adverse outcomes. Further, there are new, multilevel COVID-19-specific risks to patients, surgeons, health care workers (HCWs), institutions and society. Urgent guidance in the delivery of safe, quality head and neck oncologic care is needed. Novel barriers to safe HNC surgery include (1) imperfect presurgical screening for COVID-19; (2) prolonged SARS-CoV-2 aerosolization; (3) occurrence of multiple, potentially lengthy, aerosol generating procedures (AGPs) within a single surgery; (4) potential incompatibility of enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE) with routine operative equipment; (5) existential or anticipated PPE shortages. Additionally, novel, COVID-19-specific multilevel risks to HNC patients, HCWs and institutions, and society include use of immunosuppressive therapy, nosocomial COVID-19 transmission, institutional COVID-19 outbreaks, and, at some locations, societal resource deficiencies requiring health care rationing. Traditional head and neck oncology doctrines require reassessment given the extraordinary COVID-19-specific risks of surgery. Emergent, comprehensive management of these novel, multilevel surgical risks are needed. Until these risks are managed, we temporarily favor nonsurgical therapy over surgery for most mucosal squamous cell carcinomas, wherein surgery and nonsurgical therapy are both first-line options. Where surgery is traditionally preferred, we recommend multidisciplinary evaluation of multilevel surgical-risks, discussion of possible alternative nonsurgical therapies and shared-decision-making with the patient. Where surgery remains indicated, we recommend judicious preoperative planning and development of COVID-19-specific perioperative protocols to maximize the safety and quality of surgical and oncologic care. BACKGROUND The determination of various selenium species in urine enables a specific biomonitoring of the exposure to different selenium compounds. METHODS For this task a coupling of three chromatographic techniques with ICP-MS was developed for the separate quantification of eleven species in urine. The first procedure was based on reverse phase chromatography and was designed for the separate determination of methyl-2-acetamido-2-deoxy-1-seleno-b-d-galactopyranoside (SeSug1), methyl-2-acetamido-2-deoxy-1-seleno-b-d-glucopyranoside (SeSug2), selenomethionine (SeMet), methylselenocysteine (MeSeC), seleno-D,L-ethionine (SeEt), methylselenic acid (MeSeA) and methylselenoglutathione (MeSeG); the second procedure was based on anion exchange chromatography and measured selenate (Se (VI)) and selenite (Se (IV)); the third procedure was based on cationic exchange chromatography and determined methyl-2-amino-2-deoxy-1-seleno-b-d-galactopyranoside (SeSug3) and the trimethylselenium ion (TMSe). A fourth method for the more sensitive determination of TMSe was upgraded by an on-line after-column reaction process. RESULTS The validation of the methods yielded sensitive detection limits of the species between 0.03 and 0.10 μg Se/L. For TMSe a detection limit of 0.02 μg Se/L resulted by the fourth method. An intra-day precision of 2.7-10.6% and a relative recovery between 87 % and 108 % confirm the robustness of the methods. CONCLUSION The developed procedures enable a separate and sensitive determination of eleven selenium species in urine and thus permit the exploring of metabolic factors in the general population and particularly exposed individuals. BACKGROUND Fenugreek and chromium are known to have anti-diabetic properties and this has been well demonstrated by multiple studies. Researches have been undertaken to study thebiofortification of chromium (Cr3+) in fenugreek. Some of the researchers have studied the biofortification from the soil irrigated with tannery waste water or from soil amended by tannery-sludge, with a view of enhancing the anti-diabetic effect of fenugreek plants. The present research work was also undertaken to increase the chromium content of fenugreek seeds, but through direct treatment of chromium picolinate solution to fenugreek seeds. METHODS Fenugreek seeds were procured and divided in four groups having three batches of 10 g seeds- treatment1, treatment2, control1 and control2. Control1 group was kept raw and was given no treatment and control2 group was germinated using double distilled water.
