Moreover, nZVI regulated the biosynthesis and conversions of intracellular biocomposition, leading to increased carotenoid, carbohydrate, and lipid productions and decreased protein and fatty acid yields. The above metabolisms were supported by the regulations of differentially expressed genes involved. This study provided an nZVI-based approach and molecular mechanism for enhancing microalgal activities and nutrient uptake from wastewater.A tandem insertion of aliphatic nitriles and unactivated alkenes to the N-H bond of secondary aliphatic amines catalyzed by simple trialkyl rare-earth metal complexes was disclosed. This reaction provides a highly atom-economic and stereoselective way to a range of cyclic amidines under mild reaction conditions. The metal-free catalytic C-F bond activation of polyfluoroarenes was achieved with diazaphospholene as the catalyst and phenylsilane as the terminal reductant. Density functional theory calculations suggested a concerted nucleophilic aromatic substitution mechanism.Polyiodide networks are currently of great practical interest for the preparation of new electronic materials. see more The participation of metals in the formation of these networks is believed to improve their mechanical performance and thermal stability. Here we report the results on the construction of polyiodide networks obtained using Cu(II) complexes of a series of pyridinol-based tetraazacyclophanes as countercations. The assembly of these crystalline polyiodides takes place from aqueous solutions on the basis of similar structural elements, the [CuL]2+ and [Cu(H-1L)]+ (L = L2, L2-Me, L2-Me3) complex cations, so that the peculiarities induced by the increase of N-methylation of ligands, the structural variable of ligands, can be highlighted. First, solution equilibria involving ligands and complexes were analyzed (potentiometry, NMR, UV-vis, ITC). Then, the appropriate conditions could be selected to prepare polyiodides based on the above complex cations. Single-crystal XRD analysis showed that the coordination of pyridinol units to two metal ions is a prime feature of these ligands, leading to polymeric coordination chains of general formula [Cu(H-1L)]nn+ (L = L2-Me, L2-Me3). In the presence of the I-/I2 couple, the polymerization tendency stops with the formation of [(CuL)(CuH-1L)]3+ (L = L2-Me, L2-Me3) dimers which are surrounded by polyiodide networks. Moreover, coordination of the pyridinol group to two metal ions transforms the surface charge of the ring from negative to markedly positive, generating a suitable environment for the assembly of polyiodide anions, while N-methylation shifts the directional control of the assembly from H-bonds to I···I interactions. In fact, an extended concatenation of iodine atoms occurs around the complex dimeric cations, the supramolecular I···I interactions become shorter and shorter, fading into stronger forces dominated by the orbital overlap, which is promising for effective electronic materials. An efficient catalytic propargylation of CoQ0 is described by employing the cooperative effect of Sc(OTf)3 and Hantzsch ester. It is suggested to work through the redox chain reaction, which involves hydroquinone and dimeric propargylic moiety intermediates. A broad range of propargylic alcohols can be converted into the appropriate derivatives of CoQ0 containing triple bonds in good to excellent yields. The mechanism of the given transformation is also discussed. In this work, we attempt to determine the influence of the oxidation state of copper [Cu(I) vs Cu(II)], the nature of the interface (solid/aqueous vs solid/air), the incubation time, and the structure of N-substituted phenylboronic acids (PBAs) functionalizing the surface of copper oxide nanostructures (NSs) on the mode of adsorption. For this purpose, 4-[(N-anilino)(phosphono)-S-methyl]phenylboronic acid (1-PBA) and its two analogues (2-PBA and bis1-PBA) and the copper oxide NSs were synthesized in a surfactant-/ion-free solution via a synthetic route that allows controlling the size and morphology of NSs. link2 The NSs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction, which confirmed the formation of spherical Cu2O nanoparticles (Cu2ONPs) with a size of 1.5 μm to 600 nm crystallized in a cubic cuprite structure and leaf-like CuO nanostructures (CuONSs) with dimensions of 80-180 nm in width and 400-700 nm in length and crystallized in a monoclinic structure. PBA analogues were deposited on the surface of the copper oxide NSs, and adsorption was investigated using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The changes in the orientation of the molecule relative to the substrate surface caused by the abovementioned factors were described, and the signal enhancement on the copper oxide NSs was determined. This is the first study using vibrational spectroscopy for these compounds.Scintillation fibers based on rare-earth ion-doped crystal materials have attracted significant attention for applications in a wide range of areas from security to healthcare. However, the scintillation performance of crystal fibers is severely limited owing to the complex preparation process. Here, we report a modified preparation process of the transparent Ce/Tb co-doped yttrium pyrosilicate (YPS) nanocrystal silica fiber for the first time, which was fabricated by the CO2 laser-heated method assisted with optimal thermal annealing. An YPS nanocrystal phase with an average size of approximately 38 nm is obtained by controlling the diffusion concentration of SiO2 in the fiber core region. Both Ce3+ and Tb3+ ions were successfully embedded into YPS nanocrystals, which enhanced the energy transfer with an efficiency of 59.87% between the dopants as well as brighter green light emission. Furthermore, the X-ray-excited remote radioluminescence response of the obtained YPS nanocrystal fiber with a length of 20 m was approximately 1 order of magnitude larger than that of the precursor fiber, while the dose rate response exhibited excellent linearity. It is believed that the novel transparent YPS nanocrystal-doped silica optical fibers, combined with their excellent fluorescent properties, could be promising candidates for scintillators, fiber lasers, and phosphors. The engineering of viral genomes facilitates both fundamental and applied research on viruses. However, the multiloci manipulation of DNAs of viruses with large DNA genomes, such as baculoviruses, herpesviruses, and poxviruses, is technically challenging, particularly for highly homologous or repetitive sequences. Homologous regions (hrs) have multiple copies in many large DNA viruses and play pivotal roles in the viral life cycle. Here, we used synthetic biology to investigate the fundamental function of baculoviral hrs by conducting multiloci manipulation of Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) DNA that contains eight hrs scattered in the genome. Using transformation-associated recombination in yeast, we generated recombinant AcMNPV genomes in which we deleted all hrs or retained a single hr (hr1, hr2, or hr3). Infectious viruses were rescued after transfecting the synthetic viral genomes into host cells, and their replication features were characterized. The results demonstrated that deletion of all hrs severely compromised viral DNA replication and progeny production, whereas retaining only a single hr was essential for efficient viral DNA replication and progeny production. The synthetic virus with hr2 or hr3 showed a growth curve similar to that of the parental virus. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that hr1, hr2, and hr3 could enhance gene transcription within a surrounding region of 14.6 kb, 13.8 kb, and 29.8 kb, respectively. Overall, this study revealed the advantages of synthetic biology in multiloci engineering and functional studies of large DNA viruses. In addition, our findings on hrs will be helpful for the design and improvement of baculovirus-based expression vectors.Retinoblastoma (Rb) is the most critical and severe intraocular malignancy occurring in children. The clinical management of retinoblastoma is still challenging due to failure in early detection and control despite the advancements in medical strategies. Early-stage Rb tumors do not occupy major visual fields, so chemo/photothermal therapy (PTT) with biocompatible materials can be a practical approach. Herein, we report multifunctional polymeric nanoparticles (PNPs) entrapped with an FDA-approved anticancer drug, Palbociclib (PCB), and a near-infrared dye, IR820 (IR), as chemo/photothermal agents. These PCB/IR PNPs were evaluated for the combinational effect in the retinoblastoma cell line. Further, the in vivo photoacoustic imaging efficacy and acute toxicity profile of the PNPs were studied in a mice model. The results indicated that the PCB/IR PNPs exhibited a significant cytotoxic effect (86.5 ± 2.3%) in Y79 cell lines than the respective control groups upon exposure to NIR light. Qualitative and quantitative analyses indicated that PCB/IR PNPs with NIR light induction resulted in DNA damage followed by apoptosis. PCB/IR PNPs, when tested in vivo, showed optimal photoacoustic signals. Thus, the combination of PCB and PTT can emerge as a translational modality for retinoblastoma therapy. To the Editor, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the main causes of patients seeking urological counselling in Western countries. To assess the prevalence of nocturnal polyuria (NP) in males performing uroflowmetry (UF) for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), the impact of NP on UF outcomes, and bladder emptying, the association between NP and LUTS.

Men scheduled for UF were recruited in two Centres. Data collected were medical history, IPSS, UF, post-void residual urine volume (PVR), 3-day frequency-volume charts (FVC). The NP index was used to assess NP with a threshold of ≥ 33%. The relationship between NP and patient's aging was assessed.

162 patients were included in the analysis. Mean age was 70.95 ± 8.04 years. The prevalence of NP was 54.9% (89/162). 110 (68%) patients reported nocturia, and among these, NP was documented in 76 (69%). Nocturia was found in 85% (76/89) of the population with NP. Total IPSS score, IPSS items #1, #2 and #7 showed a significant difference in men with NP compared with those without. Maximum flow rate and PVR did not significantly change comparing men with or without NP. Mean voiding volume (VV) of the night-time micturitions was significantly higher in men with NP compared to those without NP (532.
