Huanglongbing (HLB), mainly associated with the bacterium 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus', is a devastating disease that causes negative impacts on citrus yield and fruit quality. One of the main HLB control measures is based on preventive insecticide sprays, aiming to control its vector, the Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) Diaphorina citri. In blocks on the orchard's periphery, the ACP population is more concentrated in trees closer to the block's edge and gradually decreasing towards its interior. This spread pattern of ACP has motivated growers to perform, empirically based, additional insecticide applications at the border of the block ('AB'), as an additional measure to spraying insecticides in the entire block ('EB'). Hence, this work aimed (i) to evaluate the coverage and efficiency of AB, comparing tree canopy volume, and planting direction; and (ii) to compare ACP population and HLB incidence between blocks treated under EB, and blocks that received 'EB + AB'.

Regardless of the operational situation, as the distance increased from the orchard's edge (0m) to the interior, spray coverage exponentially decayed from an average of 21% to less than 1% of coverage, and ACP mortality exponentially decayed from 83% to 7%. In general, the spray coverage and ACP mortality were suitable only for the tree canopy face directly sprayed at the orchard's edge (0m). After 5.5 years, a higher ACP population and number of symptomatic trees were detected in 'EB + AB'.

However, their designed preparation and precise structural characterization remain challenging. Herein, we demonstrate that cocrystallization of tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)hexahydropyrene and pyrene derivatives (CP-Hp and CP-Py, respectively) yields non-stoichiometric mixed frameworks through networking via hydrogen bonding. The composition ratio of CP-Hp and CP-Py in the framework was determined by single crystalline X-ray crystallographic analysis, indicating that the mixed frameworks were formed over a wide range of composition ratios. Furthermore, microscopic Raman spectroscopy on the single crystal indicates that the components are not uniformly distributed such as ideal solid solution, but are done gradationally or inhomogeneously.

This study analysed whether local anaesthetic wound catheter infiltration (LA-WCI) as an adjunct to intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV-PCA) provides superior outcomes compared to IV-PCA alone following liver resection.

A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted for randomised control trials (RCTs) comparing LA-WCI with IV-PCA(LA-WCI group) versus IV-PCA alone (IV-PCA group). PubMed and the Cochrane Library were searched for relevant articles.

Six RCTs with a total of 440 patients were included. Opioid use in the initial 48h was less in the LA-WCI group [MD -21.27mg (-39.39,-3.15), p=0.02]. Pain scores were lower in the LA-WCI group at rest at POD0 (post-operative day 0)6-8 h (p=0.0009), POD1AM(p=0.01), POD1PM(p=0.02) and POD2 (p=0.0006), and exertion at POD0 0-2 h (p=0.05), POD1AM(p=0.03), POD1PM(p=0.03), POD2 (p=0.03) and POD3 (p=0.01). LA-WCI group had reduced length of hospital stay [MD -1.32 days (-2.23,-0.40),p=0.005], time to ambulation [MD -5.94h (-8.47,-3.42),p=0.00001] and incidence of nausea and vomiting (PONV) [OR 0.17 (0.07,0.43),p=0.0002]. No differences were observed in length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay or incidence of surgical site infections.

The adult liver consists of hexagonal lobules, each with a central vein surrounded by six portal triads localized in the lobule border containing distinct parenchymal and nonparenchymal cells. Because the liver is continuously exposed to diverse stress signals, several sophisticated regenerative processes exist to restore its functional status following impairment. However, these stress signals can affect the liver's capacity to regenerate and may lead to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), one of the most aggressive liver cancers. Here, we review the mechanisms of hepatic regeneration and their potential to influence HCC development.

Continuous flow left ventricular assist devices have improved outcomes in patients with end-stage heart failure that require mechanical circulatory support. Current devices have an adverse event profile that has hindered widespread application. The EVAHEART®2 left ventricular assist device (EVA2) has design features such as large blood gaps, lower pump speeds and an inflow cannula that does not protrude into the left ventricle that may mitigate the adverse events currently seen with other continuous flow devices.

A prospective, multi-center randomized non-inferiority study, COMPETENCE Trial, is underway to assess non-inferiority of the EVA2 to the HeartMate 3 LVAS when used for the treatment of refractory advanced heart failure. The primary end-point is a composite of the individual primary outcomes Survival to cardiac transplant or device explant for recovery; Free from disabling stroke; Free from severe Right Heart Failure after implantation of original device. Randomization is in a 21 (EVA2HM3) ratio.

The first patient was enrolled into the COMPETENCE Trial in December of 2020, and 25 subjects (16 EVA2 and 9 HM3) are currently enrolled. Enrollment of a safety cohort is projected to be completed by third quarter of 2022 at which time an interim analysis will be performed. Short-term cohort (92 EVA2 subjects) and long-term cohort is expected to be completed by the end of 2023 and 2024, respectively.

To identify appropriate ligation sites, by selecting several potential ligation sites with fewer mutations around two short linker regions, their ligation efficiencies and the functions of the ligated ER-60s were examined experimentally. To evaluate the dependence of ligation efficiencies on the ligation sites computationally, steric hinderances around the sites for the ligation were calculated through molecular dynamics simulations. Utilizing the steric hindrance, a site-dependent ligation potential index was introduced as reproducing the experimental ligation efficiency. Referring to this index, the reconstruction of ER-60 was succeeded by the ligation of the three domains for the first time. In addition, the new ligation potential index well-worked for application to other domain ligations. Therefore, the index may serve as a more time-effective tool for multi-site ligations.

Despite advantages such as abbreviated treatment course, brachytherapy (BT) utilization rates for prostate cancer (PC) in the United States (US) are declining. We surveyed practicing US radiation oncologists (ROs) to determine the proportion who offer BT for PC and whether the COVID-19 pandemic influenced practice patterns.

From July-October 2021, we surveyed practicing US ROs. Provider demographic and practice characteristics were collected. Questions assessing utilization of BT and external beam (EBRT) for patients of varying risk groups and the effect of the pandemic on practice patterns were administered. Descriptive statistics were reported. The bivariate relationships between provider characteristics and likelihood of offering BT were assessed using the Chi-square test (α < 0.05).

Six percent of surveyed ROs responded, with 203 meeting inclusion criteria (72% male, 72% white, 53% non-academic, 69% >10 years in practice) and 156 (77%) treating PC. For low-risk, fewer providers offered BT (41% total; 25% low dose rate [LDR], 10% high dose rate [HDR], 6% both) than stereotactic body (SBRT) (54%) and moderately hypofractionated radiation therapy (MHFRT) (83%). For favorable intermediate risk, fewer offered BT (37% total; 21% LDR, 10% HDR, 6% both) than SBRT (48%), MHFRT (87%), and conventionally fractionated EBRT (38%). For high (44%) and very-high (37%) risk, fewer offered EBRT+BT than EBRT alone. For every risk group, academic ROs were significantly more likely to offer BT (all p-values<0.05). <1% of respondents reported increased pandemic-related BT usage.

US ROs, particularly in non-academic settings, do not routinely offer BT monotherapy or boost (<50%). Practice patterns were unaffected by COVID-19. Retraining may be critical to increasing utilization.
