These "positive data" then reinforce individuals' confidence in the predictive power of dreams. I finally show a potential decline of the popularity of dream interpretation in traditional China and offer a few suggestive explanations drawing on the unique characteristics of oneiromancy compared to other divination techniques.

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the main cause of death and disability in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Both the Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (Grace) score and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) were associated with prognosis in patients with AMI. However, whether the addition of the hs-CRP to Grace risk score could improve the predictive power of Grace risk score on the prognosis of patients with AMI is unclear.

We hypothesized that the inclusion of hs-CRP in the Grace risk score could improve the ability to correctly distinguish the occurrence of in-hospital outcomes.

We retrospectively enrolled 1804 patients with AMI in the final analysis. Patients were divided into four groups by hs-CRP quartiles. The relation between hs-CRP and Grace risk score was analyzed by Spearman rank correlation. Logistic regression was used to identify independent risk factors. The predictive value of hs-CRP add to Grace risk score was evaluated by C-statistic, net reclassification improvement (NRI), integrated differentiation improvement (IDI), calibration plot, and decision curve analysis.

The hs-CRP and Grace risk score had a significantly positive correlation (r = .191, p < .001). hs-CRP combined with Grace risk score could improve the ability of Grace risk score alone to correctly redistinguish the occurrence of in-hospital outcome (C-statistic = 0.819, p < .001; NRI = 0.05956, p = .007; IDI = 0.0757, p < .001).

Admission hs-CRP level was a significant independent risk factor for in-hospital outcomes in patients with AMI. The inclusion of hs-CRP in the Grace risk score could improve the ability to correctly distinguish the occurrence of in-hospital outcomes.

We detected the effect of 3500 MHz RF-EMR on anxiety-like behavior and the auditory cortex (ACx) in guinea pigs. Forty male guinea pigs were randomly divided into four groups and exposed to a continuous wave of 3500 MHz RF-EMF at an average specific absorption rate (SAR) of 0, 2, 4, or 10 W/kg for 72 h. After exposure, malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, antioxidant enzyme activity, anxiety-like behavior, hearing thresholds, cell ultrastructure, and apoptosis were detected. Our results revealed that hearing thresholds and basic indexes of animal behavior did not change significantly after exposure (P > 0.05). However, the MDA levels of ACx were increased (P  less then  0.05), and catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px) activities were decreased (P  less then  0.05) in the exposure groups compared to the sham group. Ultrastructural changes of ACx, including swollen mitochondria and layered myelin sheaths, were observed. Cytochrome-c relocalization, caspase-9, and cleaved caspase-3 activation were detected in the exposure groups. In conclusion, these results suggest that oxidative stress is an important mechanism underlying the biological effects of RF-EMR, which can induce ultrastructural damage to the ACx and cell apoptosis through a mitochondria-dependent mechanism. Moreover, oxidative stress, apoptosis induction and ultrastructural damage increase in a SAR-dependent manner. However, RF-EMR does not increase hearing thresholds or induce anxiety. The study was a randomized, double-blind, cross-over trial. Nine patients with very long-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (VLCAD) deficiency or carnitine palmitoyl transferase (CPT) II deficiency were randomized to receive either 8 weeks of 1000 mg day-1 RSV or placebo (P) followed by a 4-weeks wash-out period and subsequently 8 weeks of the opposite treatment. Primary outcome measures were heart rate and FAO as measured via stable isotope technique during constant workload exercise. Secondary outcome measures included fat and glucose metabolism; perceived exertion; as well as subjective measures of energy expenditure, fatigue, and daily function. Eight participants completed the trial. Cefodizime manufacturer Heart rate did not differ at the end of exercise after treatment with RSV vs placebo (P = .063). Rate of oxidation of palmitate at end of exercise was not different with 1.5 ± 0.8 (RSV) vs 1.3 ± 0.6 (P) μmol kg-1 min-1 (P = .109). Secondary outcomes did not change except for increased plasma glycerol and decreased plasma glucose levels at the end of exercise after treatment with RSV vs placebo. A daily dose of 1000 mg resveratrol does not improve exercise capacity or FAO during exercise in patients with CPTII or VLCAD deficiencies.

To study in simulation and in theory the accuracy and precision of dynamic T

measurements obtained using the previously published single-reference variable flip angle (SR-VFA) technique, with a focus on the effects of dynamic changes in T

Monte Carlo simulations were performed over 1000 noisy iterations for the VFA method, the SR-VFA method, and a proposed method, SR-VFA with a T

estimates were calculated analytically for each method, with signals modeled by the steady-state spoiled gradient echo equation. The mean and standard deviation of these estimates were calculated and compared to truth, while varying repetition time (TR), baseline and dynamic T

In the Hooghly River estuary, Hilsa shad is an anadromous fish species that migrates from the adjacent sea to the estuary and rivers for spawning. After spawning, the juveniles remain in the rivers and estuary for few months then start their downstream migration towards the adjacent sea. However, the pattern of their downstream migration has not been studied in detail so far. This study investigates the role of tide and lunar phases on the juvenile Hilsa shad migration pattern. In this study, we have estimated the rate of juveniles migrating through the river channel (no. m-2 h-1 ) during high tide and low tide in all of the lunar phases. The number of juvenile Hilsa shad fishes is found to be much higher during low tides in most of the observations and there is a significant difference (t = 11.904, P  less then  0.001) between the high tide and low tide catches in the entire study region. Among the eight lunar phases, the number of juveniles is also observed to be higher during the new moon and full moon, and there is also a significant difference in juvenile catch among the lunar phases (F = 64.372, P  less then  0.001) in the entire stretch of the study area. These observations enabled us to develop a plausible mechanism of the downstream migration of Hilsa shad juveniles. We investigated the potential relationship between receipt of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and development of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We conducted a cohort study using a sample of more than one million beneficiaries enrolled in the U.S. Medicare health insurance program from 1997 to 2017. Using time-varying proportional hazard modeling, we compared ALS occurrence among patients diagnosed with psychiatric conditions who received ECT to ALS occurrence among patients diagnosed with psychiatric conditions but who did not receive ECT. We observed moderately increased, but imprecise, hazard ratios (HR) for ALS following ECT (HR = 1.39, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.69-2.80). A statistically significant increase in the HR of ALS was observed among those who received more than 10 ECT treatments (>10 treatments, HR = 2.24, 95% CI 1.00-5.01), compared to those receiving no ECT, with an even stronger association observed among subjects older than 65 years (HR = 3.03, 95% CI 1.13-8.10). No monotonic exposure-response relationship was detected in categorical analyses. Our results provide weak support for the hypothesis that receipt of ECT increases the risk of developing ALS. Additional studies in larger populations, or in populations where ECT is more common, will be needed to refute or confirm an association between receipt of ECT and subsequent development of ALS. Wearable transdermal alcohol concentration (TAC) sensors allow passive monitoring of alcohol concentration in natural settings and measurement of multiple features from drinking episodes, including peak intoxication level, speed of intoxication (absorption rate) and elimination, and duration. These passively collected features extend commonly used self-reported drink counts and may facilitate the prediction of alcohol-related consequences in natural settings, aiding risk stratification and prevention efforts.

A total of 222 young adults aged 21-29 (M age=22.3, 64% female, 79% non-Hispanic white, 84% undergraduates) who regularly drink heavily participated in a 5-day study that included the ecological momentary assessment (EMA) of alcohol consumption (daily morning reports and participant-initiated episodic EMA sequences) and the wearing of TAC sensors (SCRAM-CAM anklets). The analytic sample contained 218 participants and 1274days (including 554self-reported drinking days). Five features-area under the cuute to the day-level prediction of alcohol-related consequences. TAC sensors provide a passive option for obtaining valid and unique information predictive of drinking risk in natural settings.

These results support the utility of TAC sensors in studies of alcohol misuse among young adults in natural settings and outline the specific TAC features that contribute to the day-level prediction of alcohol-related consequences. TAC sensors provide a passive option for obtaining valid and unique information predictive of drinking risk in natural settings.
