Meanwhile, PTX3 was found to be overexpressed/produced in nasal mucosa and discharge/secretion of the CRSsNP patients. Collectively, we first demonstrated here that PGN enhances PTX3 expression and release in nasal fibroblasts through TLR2, PI-PLC, PKCμ/δ, NF-κB, and CREB signaling pathways. The PTX3 is overexpressed in nasal mucosa and discharge/secretion of CRSsNP patients, revealing its possible importance in CRSsNP development and progression. KEY MESSAGES Long pentraxin 3 (PTX3) is highly expressed in nasal mucosa and discharge/secretion of patients of chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps (CRSsNP). The bacteria cell wall component-peptidoglycan (PGN) causes PTX3 expression in CRSsNP nasal mucosa-derived fibroblasts, contributing to the PTX3 increase in tissues. PGN induces PTX3 expression through a previously known IκB/NF-κB and a novel PKCμ/δ and CREB signaling pathway. The PTX3 may be used as a biomarker for CRS.Using amendments is a cost-effective method to soil cadmium (Cd) remediation, whereas knowledge about how different amendments and rates affect remediation efficiency remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the impacts of different types and amounts of amendments on soil Cd immobilization and its uptake by plants. Biochar (BC), zeolite (ZE), humic acid (HA), superphosphate (SP), lime (L), and sodium sulfide (SS) were applied at three rates (low, medium, and high) ranging from 0.5 to 5%. The concentration of CaCl2-extractable Cd was considerably affected by the amendments, except HA, and the high doses achieved better immobilization effects than the low doses did. The addition of amendments decreased weak acid soluble Cd by 4.1-44.0% but slightly increased the fractions of oxidizable and residual Cd. These amendments (except BC and HA dose of 1%) decreased Cd accumulation in grains by 1.3-68.8% and (except SP) in roots by 16.3-65.5% compared with the control. The SP efficiently immobilized Cd but posed a potential soil acidification risk. Moreover, SS treatment increased the soil electrical conductivity (EC) value and restricted the growth of wheat, possibly due to high-salt stress. BC, ZE, and L exerted significant effects on the reduction in available Cd as the application rate increased. These amendments enhanced Cd immobilization mainly by changing Cd availability in soil and influencing its redistribution in different fractions in soil and root uptake by plants. This study concluded that BC-5%, ZE-1%, and L-0.5% can be used for Cd immobilization in acidic or neutral soils.BACKGROUND Neurotoxins initially were used to treat hyperfunctional rhytids of the face, but now have been expanded to improve facial shaping, correct facial asymmetry and even improve skin texture and tone. METHODS The clinical approach to non-surgical facial rejuvenation is approached into four anatomical regions the upper face, midface, lower face and neck. CONCLUSIONS Non-surgical facial rejuvenation using neurotoxins should be performed safely and effectively in order to avoid and treat complications. The benefits of cannabis are mediated largely by cannabinoids, the most prominent of which are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). As such, THC and/or CBD have been investigated in clinical studies for the treatment of many conditions including neuropathic pain and acute or chronic inflammation. While a plethora of studies have examined the biochemical effects of purified THC and/or CBD, only a few have focused on the effects of full-spectrum cannabis plant extract. Accordingly, studies using purified THC or CBD may not accurately reflect the potential health benefits of full-spectrum cannabis extracts. Indeed, the cannabis plant produces a wide range of cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other bioactive molecules which are likely to contribute to the different biological effects. The presence of all these bioactive molecules in cannabis extracts has garnered much attble adverse effects associated with cannabis use is discussed along with how the method of extraction and the delivery mechanisms of different cannabis extracts contribute to the pharmacokinetic and biological effects of full-spectrum cannabis extracts.This article reports the case of an 81-year-old male patient under treatment with oral anticoagulation who suffered delayed compartment syndrome of the upper arm from arterial capillary hemorrhage after shovelling snow. The diagnosis was made 48 h after the initial symptoms in the emergency surgical department of the Klinikum rechts der Isar (München) with the presence of clear neurological deficits. Following computed tomography angiography (CTA) imaging an emergency dermatofasciotomy was carried out as well as a vascular ligature via a medial approach. Compartment syndromes are the result of pathologically elevated tissue pressure and as a rule with a rapid clinical course. A delayed diagnosis can therefore lead to irreversible tissue and nerve damage up to the loss of the extremity. Compartment syndromes are particularly frequent in the lower extremities whereas those of the upper extremities are rare. This case report is intended to raise awareness for an insidiously occurring compartment syndrome of the upper arm due to repetitive microtrauma (in this case shovelling snow) and arterial peripheral vascular hemorrhage with simultaneous anticoagulation. The necessary diagnostic and treatment steps are also elucidated.Vision plays a central role in maintaining balance. When humans perceive their body as moving, they trigger counter movements. This results in body sway, which has typically been investigated by measuring the body's center of pressure (COP). Here, we aimed to induce visually evoked postural responses (VEPR) by simulating self-motion in virtual reality (VR) using a sinusoidally oscillating "moving room" paradigm. Ten healthy subjects participated in the experiment. Stimulation consisted of a 3D-cloud of random dots, presented through a VR headset, which oscillated sinusoidally in the anterior-posterior direction at different frequencies. We used a force platform to measure subjects' COP over time and quantified the resulting trajectory by wavelet analyses including inter-trial phase coherence (ITPC). Subjects exhibited significant coupling of their COP to the respective stimulus. Even when spectral analysis of postural sway showed only small responses in the expected frequency bands (power), ITPC revealed an almost constant strength of coupling to the stimulus within but also across subjects and presented frequencies. Remarkably, ITPC even revealed a strong phase coupling to stimulation at 1.5 Hz, which exceeds the frequency range that has generally been attributed to the coupling of human postural sway to an oscillatory visual scenery. These findings suggest phase-locking to be an essential feature of visuomotor control.INTRODUCTION Twitter is the most used social media platform by medical professionals and has become an effective way to disseminate ideas and information. AIM To evaluate Twitter usage by some of the larger diagnostic radiology (DR) and interventional radiology (IR) societies. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data were collected from the publicly available Twitter analytics platform, Twitonomy™. Data collected included the number of followers, Twitter output, user engagement and changes of these parameters between January 2017 and January 2019. The IR group increased its number of followers by 5139 (55%) compared with 10013 (18%) by the DR group during the period studied. In both years, the IR group posted more tweets/day compared with the DR group (6.6 vs. 4.7). Although user engagement increased for both IR and DR societies, the IR subgroup had a highly engaged user audience with a similar number of 'likes' to the DR group despite their larger Twitter following (DR 65500 vs. IR 14411 in 2019). CONCLUSIONS The IR societies studied experienced comparable Twitter engagement to the larger DR societies. The societies with the smallest number of followers (BSIR and CIRSE) enjoyed the largest relative increase in followers over the study period. IR societies should be encouraged by these results to continue to publicize their work on social media and increase awareness of the specialty.PURPOSE Complexity of drug treatment is known to be a risk factor for administration errors and nonadherence promoting higher healthcare costs, hospital admissions and increased mortality. Number of drugs and dose frequency are parameters often used to assess complexity related to the medication regimen. However, factors resulting from complex processes of care or arising from patient characteristics are only sporadically analyzed. Hence, the objective of this review is to give a comprehensive overview of relevant, patient-centered factors influencing complexity of drug treatment. METHODS A purposeful literature search was performed in MEDLINE to identify potential complexity factors relating to the prescribed drug (i.e. dosage forms or other product characteristics), the specific medication regimen (i.e. dosage schemes or additional instructions), specific patient characteristics and process characteristics. Factors were included if they were associated to administration errors, nonadherence and related adverse drug events detected in community dwelling adult patients. RESULTS Ninety-one influencing factors were identified fourteen in "dosage forms", five in "product characteristics", twelve in "dosage schemes", nine in "additional instructions", thirty-one in "patient characteristics" and twenty in "process characteristics". CONCLUSIONS Although the findings are limited by the non-systematic search process and the heterogeneous results, the search shows the influence of many factors on the complexity of drug treatment. However, to evaluate their relevance for individual patients, prospective studies are necessary.PURPOSE Telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) promoter mutation status is an important biomarker for the precision diagnosis and prognosis prediction of lower grade glioma (LGG). This study aimed to construct a radiomic signature to noninvasively predict the TERT promoter status in LGGs. METHODS Eighty-three local patients with pathology-confirmed LGG were retrospectively included as a training cohort, and 33 patients from The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) were used as for independent validation. Three types of regions of interest (ROIs), which covered the tumor, peri-tumoral area, and tumor plus peri-tumoral area, were delineated on three-dimensional contrast-enhanced T1 (3D-CE-T1)-weighted and T2-weighted images. One hundred seven shape, first-order, and texture radiomic features from each modality under each ROI were extracted and selected through least absolute shrinkage and selection operator. Radiomic signatures were constructed with multiple classifiers and evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis.
