In the present cross-sectional study, we adapted and examined the validity of a Portuguese version of the Sport Motivation Scale II (SMS-II-P) within a sample of 1148 Portuguese athletes (women = 546, men = 602) with a mean age of 18.45 years (SD = 5.36), participating in a variety of sports (i.e., football, basketball, swimming, and athletics). We conducted confirmatory factor analysis, convergent and discriminant validity analysis, and multigroup analysis across participants' sport type (team and individual) and gender. We also examined the correlations between the SMS-II-P behavioral regulations and basic psychological needs satisfaction. The results supported that the SMS-II-P had good psychometric properties and was invariant across gender and sport type. The scale demonstrated good convergent and discriminant validity, and the subscales achieved adequate internal consistency. Correlations between the six types of regulation measured in the SMS-II supported the distinction between autonomous and controlled behavioral regulations, and the correlations between these subscales and other measures of autonomy, competence, and relatedness satisfaction provided evidence of the self-determination continuum. Implications of this research for assessing Portuguese athletes and conducting future research are discussed.Sexuality is an important component of holistic quality of life, and myocardial infarction (MI) negatively influences many aspects of sexuality, including sexual function. However, there is limited literature that examines sexuality beyond the most basic physical components. This pilot study aimed to describe the relationships between the physical, psychologic, and social domains of holistic sexuality at an early timepoint post-MI. Adult men post-MI were mailed self-report surveys at 2 weeks post discharge. Physical domains of sexuality were measured with the arousal, orgasm, erection, lubrication, and pain subscales of the Male Sexual Function Index (MSFI). The social domain utilized the sexual satisfaction subscale of the MSFI. The psychologic domain included the desire subscale of the MSFI and sexual fear (Multidimensional Sexuality Questionnaire). Spearman correlations were estimated to examine associations among the different measurement subscales. Twenty-four men post-MI were analyzed. Average scores on the MSFI were 9.2 (SD 7.7). Desire and satisfaction were the highest scoring subscales among men when compared with other subscales (i.e. erection, lubrication). There was minimal evidence supporting a relationship between sexual fear and function. Additional research is also needed with larger samples, and among women post-MI.First responders encounter many hazards in the execution of their duties, and exposure to hazardous materials such as opioids is a primary safety concern. The ongoing opioid crisis in the United States continues to be a major public health issue, with overdose deaths from opioids reaching epidemic levels. Although responders frequently encounter opioids, available data on safety and risk are not always well-communicated, and we identified a need for refresher and just-in-time training products on this topic. In response, we created a training video series that is informative, concise, and visually appealing. The video series, available on YouTube, was tested with a small initial population, with findings suggesting key questions for a larger study focused on integration of the refresher training with existing programs to optimize retention and adoption of safety practices.
Chordoma is a rare malignant bone tumor, and the survival prediction for patients with chordoma is difficult. The objective of this study was to construct and validate a nomogram for predicting cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients with spinal chordoma.
A total of 316 patients with spinal chordoma were identified from the SEER database between 1998 and 2015. The independent prognostic factors for patients with spinal chordoma were determined by univariate and multivariate Cox analyses. The prognostic nomogram was established for patients with spinal chordoma based on independent prognostic factors. Furthermore, we performed internal and external validations for this nomogram.
Primary site, disease stage, histological type, surgery, and age were identified as independent prognostic factors for patients with spinal chordoma. A nomogram for predicting CSS in patients with spinal chordoma was constructed based on the above 5 variables. In the training cohort, the area under the curve for predicting 1-, 3-, and 5-year CSS were 0.821, 0.856, and 0.920, respectively. The corresponding area under the curve in the validation cohort were 0.728, 0.804, and 0.839, respectively. selleckchem The calibration curves of the nomogram showed a high degree of agreement between the predicted and the actual results, and the decision curve analysis further demonstrated the satisfactory clinical utility of the nomogram.
The prognostic nomogram provides a considerably more accurate prediction of prognosis for patients with spinal chordoma. Clinicians can use it to categorize patients into different risk groups and make personalized treatment methods.

Humans, dogs, opossums, and various zoo animals are "accidental" hosts. Here we report verminous meningoencephalomyelitis caused by A. cantonensis in a 9-mo-old male red kangaroo (Macropus rufus). The kangaroo was first presented lethargic, recumbent, and hypothermic, with severe muscle wasting. Within 3 wk, he progressed to non-ambulatory paraparesis and died. Gross examination revealed multifocal areas of dark-brown discoloration, malacia, and cavitation in the brain and the spinal cord. Histologically, there were several sections of nematodes surrounded by extensive areas of rarefaction, hemorrhage, spongiosis, neuronal necrosis, and gliosis. Based on size, morphology, and organ location, the nematodes were identified as subadult males and females. Interestingly, an eosinophilic response was largely absent, and the inflammatory response was minimal. A. cantonensis infection had not been reported previously in a red kangaroo in Louisiana or Mississippi, to our knowledge. Our case reaffirms the widespread presence of the helminth in the southeastern United States and indicates that A. cantonensis should be considered as a differential in macropods with neurologic clinical signs in regions where A. cantonensis is now endemic. The rhizospheres of three dominant plant species (Miscanthus floridulus, Buddleja lindleyana, and Erigeron annuus) growing in manganese residue disposal sites in eastern Guizhou Province, China, were analyzed to study the effects of plant growth on the nutrient levels and bacterial community structure of two types of manganese residues. The results showed that the growth of the three species improved the nutritional composition of manganese residues; the available nitrogen (AN) contents of the manganese mine residue significantly increased by 29.56-60.78% while the available phosphorus (AP) contents of the electrolytic manganese residue significantly increased by 30.24-44.41% compared to those in unvegetated manganese residue. The diversity of the bacterial community in the manganese mine residue increased significantly due to plant growth. Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, and Bacteroidetes were the dominant phyla in both manganese residues. Sphingomonas and GP6 were the dominant bacterial genera. The relative % of the national total. There is no report on the phytoremediation of manganese residue disposal sites in this region. Therefore, the rhizospheres of three dominant plant species (Miscanthus floridulus, Buddleja lindleyana, and Erigeron annuus) growing in manganese residue disposal sites in eastern Guizhou Province, China, were analyzed to study the effects of plant growth on the nutrient levels and bacterial community structure of two types of manganese residues (manganese mine residue and electrolytic manganese residue). This study could provide useful theoretical information to benefit the ecological restoration of manganese residue disposal sites.Job satisfaction is a critical component of the professional work environment and is often ascertained through surveys that include structured or open-ended questions. Using data from 24,543 respondents to California Board of Registered Nursing biennial surveys, this study examines the job satisfaction of registered nurses (RNs) by applying clustering analysis to structured job satisfaction items and sentiment analysis to free-text comments. The clustering analysis identified three job satisfaction groups (low, medium, and high satisfaction). Sentiment analysis scores were significantly associated with the job satisfaction groups in both bivariate and multivariate analyses. Differences between the job satisfaction clusters were mostly driven by satisfaction with workload, adequacy of the clerical support services, adequacy of the number of RN staff, and skills of RN colleagues. In addition, there was dispersion in satisfaction related to involvement in management and policy decisions, recognition for a job well done, and opportunities for professional development. We describe a case of primary progressive aphasia (PPA) with an underlying neurodegenerative motor disorder (possible ALS or PSP), presenting with symptoms of irritability and frustration, that were misdiagnosed and treated as a primary psychiatric disorder, i.e. depression. PPA is a rare neurodegenerative disorder characterized by insidious onset and gradual progression of speech and language impairment. We emphasize that PPA can initially masquerade as or be accompanied by neuropsychiatric symptoms potentially leading to misdiagnosis. Most prevalent neuropsychiatric symptoms reported in the PPA literature are agitation, depression, anxiety, apathy, irritability, abnormal appetite and disinhibition. To ensure early diagnosis of PPA, if a patient presents with new psychiatric symptoms accompanied by new onset speech and/or language impairment, referral to a specialist (i.e., neurologist and/or speech-language pathologist) is recommended. The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term phosphorus (P) retention in a pilot-scale system made of four horizontal subsurface flow (HSSF) constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment. Each wetland had an area of 4.5 m2 and was operated for nearly 8 years (2833 days). Two wetlands with Schoenoplectus californicus (HSSF-Sch) and the other two with Phragmites australis (HSSF-Phr) were planted. The P removal efficiency was 18% for both types of HSSF wetlands. The primary factors that correlated with long-term P retention efficiency in HSSF were phosphorus loading rate (PLR), hydraulic loading rate (HLR) and dissolved oxygen (DO). Average biomass production of HSSF-Phr and HSSF-Sch was 4.8 and 12.1 kg dry weight (DW)/m2, respectively. The P uptake by the plant increased over the years of operation from 1.8 gP/m2 to 7.1 gP/m2 for Phragmites and from 3.2 to 7.4 gP/m2 for Schoenoplectus over the same periods. Moreover, the warm season (S/Sm) was more efficient reaching 14% P uptake than the cold season (F/W) with 9%.
